Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Auto selects input
- Send audio through HDMI, optical and Coaxial at the same time (can use HDMI normally and optical when needed, for AC3 audio, for example)
- HDMI 1.3 compatible
Cons: - No remote control (rarely needed though)
- Needs power supply (OK, kinda silly, but it's a con).
Other: Great product with a reasonable price. Very recommended for people who have a home theater or receiver without HDMI inputs.

Pros: The model that Deal Extreme send to me is better than i expected!! They sent me the model with 4 HDMI ports!!! and is better because it has a new function: A swith to change between 2.0 and 5.1!!!!
It also has remote control!!!!!
It works wonderfully!!
I have a Laptop with HDMI output and a DVD with HDMI output but my 5.1 amplifier doesn't have HDMI. Therefore i use this wonderfull invention to extract the 5.1 audio from HDMI signal and send it to the amplifier through an optical cable. IT WORKS!!!!!!
Cons: The adapter plug is not European type. I need to buy an adapter to use. (0.60eur)
Other: And in just two weeks I was sending in my home from Hong Kong perfectly packaged!!!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: It has 4 ports, transfers both DTS and AC3 as wel as Linear/PCM perfectly.
Includes remote control, for switching channels easily.
Cons: The remote is required to turn the device on and off, on the device there is only a button to switch inputs (does nothing else).
It come with an adapter built in the power plug. You will need a UK plug to use it!
Other: Works great, this was about the only place where I found this thing (one other site had it for about 150$).
It helped me out much since my sound system only has S/PDIF and Optical input.

Pros: - Well finished metal case. - Simple Remote - Cheap
Cons: - It has a "bug" where it prevents you to see new devices connected (video flashes, pink distorted images) until plugging off/on the device (power cord). Happens often. - Crappy receiver, IR... no RF. You have to aim really straight to the device to work. - Just 1 HDMI switch button on receiver, no power off button.
Other: - Worths your money. Cheaper than moving to a new HDMI amplifier. - Tested with MAC, Notebooks, PS3... worked fine *reboots needed.

Pros: i would say the quality of this product is great, the purpose of me buying this thing is not because im running short of hdmi port.. but the purpose for it was because my tv doesnt have optical out or hdmi ARC compatible.. so i need this to run the sounds on my home theater..
Cons: the thing was the led was bright a little too bright.. and the colour is a little funny? blue and PINK?? lol i would prefer if its only red.. and you could only switch this thing off with a remote..
Other: good buy.. supports 5.1 but i dont know those dolby digital stuff etc.. purpose of this is just to connect the sound to my home theater.. and i dont want that 2 channel cable.. which is white and red coloured

Pros: Exactly what I was looking for. could not find anything like this anywhere else online. Except the
same item on ebay going for 90GBP.
Lets me pass the audio from any hdmi lead to my amp via optical, coaxial or aux (all work simultaneously at the same time outputting audio in perfect sync)
I have a monitor with hdmi inputs but it does not process sound from the hdmi cable as it has no speakers or even an audio pass through. I have a stereo amp and although my amp is old and only stereo it has optical and coax digital (for old school dat) and aux inputs for sound input with no hdmi pass through like recent amps with surround sound do.
With my hd sat box downstairs and a 15m hdmi lead previously installed into my room I'm now able to pass the audio from that lead to my amp via this swithcer box. While also having a nice 1080i hd image on my pc monitor in perfect audio sync might I add.
*This box also auto switches if you only have one input on it will switch to that input.
*The included remote has good range.
*Good sturdy metal case
*hd pictures look identical passed through the box.
*My good old amp is still going on strong thanks to this little devie.
Cons: Only criticisms are the the blinding led lights on the box. Red for stand by, "pink"? for on, and blue for the hdmi channel selectors. All way to bright.
But this was easily rectifiable anyway.
A little slow to switch to another input sometimes.
Other: Works exactly as I hoped it would. Another dealextreme thumbs up.

Pros: 4 HDMI inputs and a redirect to TOSLINK and S/P-DIF AND analog for sound. This would, theoretically, allow you to switch HDMI decives without switching inputs on your 5.1 receiver, if it has no native HDMI support. It even allows you to connect an old-fashioned analog Stereo system. Brilliant!
Cons: The sound cuts out if you pause the video. If you change devices, there is a good chance you will get no sound /and/ no picture. also, the sound seens to ne stereo, even is the device is set to 5.1 and the audiostream is set to 5.1 LPCM.
Other: Great idea, but a horrible let-down by the firmware. Every time I change the subtitle settings on a video, I need to re-set the HDMI switch and change back to the device I was using. If I change between my HD media player and my PlayStation, I need to re-set the HDMI switch and change back to the device I was using.

Pros: Price is good and a good solution for those who does not have a receiver. Worked fine with xbox 360 and cable tv, 5.1 audio worked 100%
Cons: Problems outputing 5.1 sound from apple tv and playstation 3. Sometimes it looses the image handshake, and the only way to get it back is restarting the box.
Other: if you need the optical output passthrough (samsung tv owners), and cant buy a receiver, Its a good solution. just not a full receiver.

Pros: For many years I have sought a product like this, and at last there is a good quality product on the market obtainable from DX. This is the gadget I have always needed to complete my Home Entertainment System as I had wished. The build quality of the item is excellent, the criticism by many other owners shown on this site regarding the very bright "Power On" LED is simply remedied by covering with a small piece of black PVC Adhesive tape, also works wonders on many HDD Enclosures. The included English "User Manual" is very good, which is more than can be said for most Chinglish Manuals. Many others have mentioned the sound loss after switching inputs, after my experience other the past months, I am beginning to believe this might me a common HDMI Connection Switching problem, always with a slight delay. But I am not 100% sure yet.
Cons: I can no CON`s whatsoever with this product.
Other: This a well made product at a very reasonable. I cannot find anything negative to write about.

Pros: Extends your A/V system's HDMI ports, converts HDMI audio to TOSLink / coaxial / analog for use with older receivers and home theater systems. Operates from remote control for maximum lazyness. :-)
Cons: None I can think of. Maybe the price (DX.com-wise) is a bit high, but it's worth the money.
Other: I definitely recommend this device for those who, like me, have a lot of new A/V stuff but do not want to get rid of your old, reliable, excellent-sounding receiver.
