2.5-inch USB 2.0 IDE HDD Enclosure

Pros: It is easy to assemby It is very small It is lightweight It comes with screwdriver, leather case, and instructions

Cons: It showed up as a DVD drive on my computer and not a usb memory device
build quality not excellent

Other: If you need a hard drive enclosure, buy this. it is inexpensive and the cheapest you will find around. .

Pros: Very good enclosure for the price, comes with everything you'll need (other than the drive of course). Installation was very easy, plug your 2.5" IDE HDD into the end cap, slide in into the aluminum casing, and screw in 2 screws, doesn't get any easier then that.

Cons: plastic end caps feel a bit cheap. My aluminum casing caves inwards a bit, but doesn't affect performance and hardly noticeable once it's put together.

Other: Good enclosure @ good price, however I wish went with one that takes mini-B USB plug instead.

Pros: - This is a thin lightweight 2.5 hard disk enclosure made of black plastic and looks pretty good. - The box comes with a split USB cable giving you extra power when there's not enough voltage. - Easy to install. There are only two screws. There's a screwdriver in the box. - Comes with a leather-like protective case.

Cons: - It looks a little cheap.
- Doesn't have an external DC power input (your USB must provide sufficient power).
- There are no screws to hold the hard drive, although it holds up inside pretty well.

Other: It's cheap. It's thin. It works well.

Pros: Recieved this enclosure and installed a 160Gb Samsung HD. Easy installation, works perfectly. The dual USB cable to supply additional power when required is excellent. Partioned my HD for work and home and have had no problems at all.

Cons: The enclosure material; is a bit thin and is able to be pressed in. To avoid any problems in this area it would be best suited to a HDD with some inbuilt protection. Although this is a minor point and the only thing I can find at this time. Therefore not particularly important.

Other: Buy one if you are in the market for similar.

Pros: I am using this enclosure with a standard laptop hd. It works without any problems under Ubuntu Gutsy and Hardy. The build quality of the enclosure is ok.

Cons: It needs 2 USB ports to operate. But I think this is normal for that kind of accessory.
The leather bag is a nice add-on but on my site it's already in pieces.
The USB cable could be a bit longer, especially if you own a normal tower pc and you need to connect it to the back usb ports.

Other: I would buy this little box again.

Pros: Simple. Elegant. Great value. Comes with cheap leather case which probably costs $1 anyway.

Cons: Because it's a simple and cheap metalic enclosure there are some minor build issues such as the plastic front and rears not sitting exaclty flush to the metal body. It doesn't have extra cushioning or shock absorbers, or a slab of thermal paste like material or ventilation but the unit did not feel hot even under 4 hours of constant copying whist inside leather case. The screws are quite small but not really a con.

Other: Connected a Samsung 160GB drive and works well. Seeing that you don't need to lug a power adapter around it's a nice solution for all your external hard drive needs.

Pros: 1) cheapest at DX, and maybe whole world :)

Cons: 1) build quality isn't best, but if you are careful, everything is ok
2) leather imitation pouch started to come apart, in few days
3) bad heat dissipation

Other: Buy this one, if you don't want waste much money, and are going to use it carefully.

Pros: Cheap and cheerful and both my AMD X2 machine love it! Case is made from Aluminium, I was expecting plastic at this price :o

Cons: Doesn't work with my old Soltek Qbic SFF computer for some reason, tried both motherboard USB 2.0 sockets and the drive can't get enought power from them :(

Other: what can I say, you'll not find this cheaper ANYWHERE it's safe to say.

Pros: It is cheap and cheerful. I can't believe you get quite a bit with this package. You get the caddie, a leather wallet to hold this, a usb plug that powers as well as access the hd inside AND a mini screwdriver to boot. What else do you want for this price?!

Cons: The white lettering scrapes off with a bit of force but who cares! The adapter that connects to the hard drive is a little off with the angle so you must be slightly more careful when inserting in the caddie.

Other: If you have an unused 2.5 harddrive, this is what you need to get.
