What is Bulk Rate? BulkRate is a semi-wholesale system with items priced separately from retail. When you use bulk rates, a flat $1.70 registered air mail fee will automatically be added to your cart to ensure delivery of package. While BulkRate's intention is to offer cheaper prices when you buy in bulk, because it is priced separately it on occassions show a higher than retail price. That's why we ask you to enter BULKRATE as a coupon code to manually activate the rates. You can always opt not to use the bulk rates. Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Cable is soldered to the board. Ready to be used on a flashlight.
Cons: A little thick but still fits in most flashlights.
Other: i am not sure having 2 boards sandwidch like this will reduce is strength on impact or not.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Cheap. Works. Nice modes.
Cons: Without last-used-mode memory (but what to expect for 3$ more? :)
!!! Not really a 1000mA in high mode !!!
In high mode, when powered by Li-Pol, and Li-ion 7,4V-8,4V cells max output only 800 mA - i expected 1000mA as in description
Other: Works.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very small, simple to use. Not a big fan of "flicking the battery power", but I use these with an external microcontroller so it's not an issue for me.
Cons: Doesn't achieve full 1A (800mA seems to be the max). No schematic available.
Other: Overall, really hard to beat for the price! I got 5 of these for half the price of a regular buck-puck.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: 5 mode small driver. not the 1000ma only about 700ma
Cons: SOS mode doesn't work no matter what the input.
Other: if you want 4 mode, then this would work as two mode of flash will let poeple now you are there.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Good little driver, will go fit right in into many flaslights, the modes are nice with high..low...slowstrobe..faststrobe...and flash every 10 sec. If you keep it off for more than 3 seconds it will go back to high mode which is good since that is the most used one. Wires pre soldered on so no guessing where to put them.
Cons: The survivability if dropped may not be that high since the two boards are sandwhiched on top of each other.
Other: Great little driver with wires already soldered on, perfect for driving a q5
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: At 17mm wide it will fit most applications. The wide voltage range allows you to try different battery types to get the best combination. Returns to HIGH mode after it is off for about 5 seconds. I prefer this method of controlling the modes rather than the remain-at-last-mode-used that some other drivers have.
Cons: It is about 10-11mm high, but you can compress the 2 boards slightly if needed, but not much..maybe about 1mm.
Other: A nice, small driver, with a wide voltage range for a fair price.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Nice and tiny. Very cheap.
I wired it up and got light, it seemed to be running about 700mA off a 3.7V cell. Very quick and simple.
Cons: Mine never worked the way I thought it would.
I couldn't switch modes so I inspected the board and noticed that one component had detached at one end and a few legs of a chip had been soldered together. So I think I got a dud. This could probably be fixed but just before I was going to try, one of the wires snapped off so I put it away.
Other: I think I got a dud. Poor soldering all over the board. Doesn't upset me too much. I think the item is normally ok.
