What is Bulk Rate? BulkRate is a semi-wholesale system with items priced separately from retail. When you use bulk rates, a flat $1.70 registered air mail fee will automatically be added to your cart to ensure delivery of package. While BulkRate's intention is to offer cheaper prices when you buy in bulk, because it is priced separately it on occassions show a higher than retail price. That's why we ask you to enter BULKRATE as a coupon code to manually activate the rates. You can always opt not to use the bulk rates. Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: -Small diameter ( 17mm I think) - Fairly efficient ( 85% based on (power out)/(power in). The load was 2 SSC P4's in series with a 7.8v input voltage. - Actual current output was 820-850mA
Cons: - If you want to use it outside of a flashlight you have to solder directly to the PCB. The outer ring is - and inner pad is + input. The Red+ and black- wires are the output
Other: Hard to beat for the price
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Seems consistent and efficient, though I have no way to measure. You get 4 for a low cost.
Cons: A bit on the large size, pre-wired leads a bit fragile.
Other: Good value if you're running at 6V. Otherwise, DX offers some good solutions, such as the AMC7315 (do a search), which is reportedly more efficient and costs less per unit.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Boards come assembled with wires attached, no tiny output wires to solder. current regulation seems to be good, I have used these with a variety of different batteries, and it works well with all of them. I really like the fact that it has such a wide input voltage range, so you can use it in practically any light. small form factor makes it easy to install. very bright output from seoul or cree leds. i used one on a k2 with a 14500 and it also pushes it very nicely. also, i like the fact that this board doesnt cut out at low voltages, it seems like it just goes into direct drive mode so you can at least use the last of your batteries in an emergency situation.
Cons: the wire leads are very tiny and can pull off the boards rather easily. but just be careful during the install, and all will be ok.
Other: if you need a single mode board, look no further! output is great, easy to install, and LOW price! what more do you want?
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very nice having the wide input voltage range, small and compact, and very easy to use.
Cons: haven't found any.
Other: If you're into high power leds then you'll find these very useful.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Good for driving CREE Led / Seoul LEDs. Does provide maximum brightness only when input voltage > 6V. Provides > 350ma with 3.5 V input.
Cons: Output current is limited to input voltage and the type of LED connected... for e.g. provides more current with SSC U Bin than CREE P4 bin.
Other: Good Value for driving LED over a wide range of input voltages.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Bright enough for Cree and flexible enough to accomodate 2 types of battery.
Cons: Only 800mA? not 1A?
Other: Repaired my broken multi voltage battery flashlight bought from DX with these and it is as good as the original
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Good for driving LEDs Works with up to 9V; so there are a variety of battery options.
Cons: No open load protection. (not that I would expect that for this price)
Other: Great price for a LED driver.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very eficient driver, provides enough current but depending on the setup it can become too much. The re is only one working mode (on/off) and for me this is a plus.
Cons: Comparing the 4 regulators i received with the same batteries and a Z-led and from 4 NiMH batteries i got 1150ma,950ma and 850ma from the other two.
Other: They are cheap enough so you can try them
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: lead wires already soldered, saved me some time since I don't have to solder the tiny wires onto the board. works well with SSC emitter, single mode at a good current for great ease in usage. give the old maglite more life and good practice for modding.
Cons: can't see any yet.
Other: a great beginning tool for any aspiring modders.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: This board has a good efficiency. Out of stock I measured maximum 92% at input voltage at which switch mode starts (3,5..4V depending on Vf) and minimum 76% (at 9V). It's easy even to improve this good efficiency to 95..82% with two cheep SMD capacitors on the board only. For applications providing enough space around the board, it is possible to flatten the output current upon input voltage and to make the device dimmable.
Cons: 1) The output current is NOT regulated and depends strongly upon the input voltage.
2) Additionally the output current depends upon Vf of the LED used.
3) There is no automatic switch down, so be carefull when using rechargeable batteries: You can destroy unprotected Li-Ion in case you take 2 of them in series and use it until light goes dark!
Other: This device is good for modders and unbeatable at this price!
