Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Cheap, works, tests a variety of cables.
Cons: Build quality is pretty cheap feeling. If you don't know how a cable is supposed to be wired it's probably not much use to you.
Other: Pretty cheap build quality but then again the price is cheap. I wouldn't treat it too roughly as it feels as though it would break fairly easy. I tested it with a few different cables and it worked fine but getting the RJ11/45 cables back out can be a bit tricky. Still worth buying though, works a treat.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Cheap, USB support, very bright leds, small, detachable terminator, leds on terminator.
Cons: Build quality isnt great, might break if you drop it to much.
Other: Very usefull tool, I would recomend it to everyone who makes cables. You cant find beter value then this anywhere.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Works very well. The auto-test/remote-tester combo is a killer-feature! When running in-wall cabling, it's usual to have one end of the cable is in the basement and the other end on the 2nd-floor. With this tester you leave the main unit (in the auto-mode) in the basement and take the remote unit to the 2nd-floor.
Cons: the construction is very cheap. The jack is very tight. One has to apply force to remove the plug.
Other: Get the job done while not hurting your wallet.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Inexpensive - Has a remote terminator - Tests many different types of cables - Does its job properly
Cons: - very cheap build quality, feels like it is nothing but an empty box of fragile plastic
Other: Simple, efficient and low cost, get one if you occasionally need to check network or usb cables. It will save you a lot of time and trouble.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very cheap. Rather straightfroward and easy to use. Invaluable timesaver for troubleshooting or testing new crimps. Detachable terminator for testing ends that are far apart.
Cons: Extremely cheap build quality. It's a flimsy plastic box that is mostly hollow. You can hear it creak when you press the test button.
The required 9v battery is a poor fit in the battery compartment and knocks around inside.
Other: Despite how cheaply made it is, it gets the job done and will save you a lot of time.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Much cheaper than any other cable tester I can buy here. - It does its job - It has a remote terminator, so you can test installed cables. - AUTO feature changes the tested wire sequencially (you must use it if you are using the remote terminator). - It has a cardboard box and instruction manual in English and Chinese (although it's pretty simple to operate)
Cons: - Easy to test RJ45 cables, difficult to test RJ11 though, it came with two small plastic adapters to fit the RJ11 plug into the RJ45 jack but they didn't work, it seems that these plastic pieces were not weel cut, you can test the RJ11 without the adapters, but they are really hard to unplug when you are done, so I advise you to look elsewhere if you are planning to test many RJ11 cables - It tests one wire at a time, if you are testing a cross-over cable you will have to know the corresponding wires in the other tip - If you are using the remote terminator, you don't have a feedback in the unit of what's going on, you will have to check the terminator - No lights to say the cable is OK neither to say it is a crossover cable, like more expensive cables have. You have to check each wire one by one. - Battery not included, and here in Brazil a single 9V battery costs as much as this unit itself. - If the battery is a little weak, the unit works in TEST mode, but not in AUTO mode - USB test does not include mini-usb jacks or adapters
Other: If you are a professional (or you are going to test RJ11 cables) you deserve a better tester, but if you are going to check just a few RJ45 cables at home or at your office once in a while, it totally worths it.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Good price.
Not very large (easy to carry with you).
Light weight.
Tests many cable-types.
Comes with adapter to test telephone cables.
Easy to use.
Manual both in chinese and english.
Comes with USB-cable.
Ships in retail box-package.
Cons: Cheap build-quality.
Typo on the unit (Termintor should be Terminator).
The battery compartment is to large (the battery bounces around inside).
Other: If you are a hobyist or a one time user this product is great. but if you are a professional network-technician you may consider buing a better tester.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Great price!
- Light-weight and compact. Easy to carry and store.
- Tests all cable types that I need to test.
- Comes with two adapters to test RJ11 phone cables.
- Very easy to use!
- Comes with manual (English and Chinese)
Cons: - Build quality is a little flimsy.
- Battery is a little tight to get into the unit, but when in, rattles around a bit.
- Button is a little touchy.
- Switch on side feels a little flimsy.
Other: If you are after a tester that is good value for hobbyist or occasional use.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: For once-in-a-while cable testing, this is a good tester. You can test a small cable by the integrated TX/RX unit. If you split the unit in 2, you can even test longer runs where both ends are not at the same location. I used the split units to identify RJ45 cables I wasn't sure which one was which... very useful for that.
Cons: The RJ45 connectors are harder than usual to remove once your cable is stuck in. Build quality is OK, not great. Feels cheap, but i'm not complaining at this price.
Other: I have not compared this one with the other cable testers around, but the only gripe I have about it is it's certainly feasible to remove cables from it, but just a little harder than from a router port, for example.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: USB tester works great and the RJ45 tester side also works.
But you get the qulity of what you paid for.
Cons: It made for the home use i would get a better one if i doing it for a bus application.
Battery not included.
Easy to test RJ45 cables, difficult to test RJ11 though, it came with two small plastic adapters to fit the RJ11 plug into the RJ45 jack but they didn't work
Other: Well it does work like it says. Also for the price that it is here you get what you ordered.
