What is Bulk Rate? BulkRate is a semi-wholesale system with items priced separately from retail. When you use bulk rates, a flat $1.70 registered air mail fee will automatically be added to your cart to ensure delivery of package. While BulkRate's intention is to offer cheaper prices when you buy in bulk, because it is priced separately it on occassions show a higher than retail price. That's why we ask you to enter BULKRATE as a coupon code to manually activate the rates. You can always opt not to use the bulk rates. Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Reliable - works whenever I need it Lasts long - only 4-5 pulls on the chord last more than an hour Small, fits into the glove compartment
Cons: Due to the 3 LEDs, the light is not that bright, but it is sufficient for most tasks.
Other: I have placed it in my car to replace the standard flashlight which I carried and which disappointed me most times I needed it. Flashlights in a car tend to have empty batteries because nobody remembers to change the batteries every year or so. This unit is bright enough for smaller tasks like searching something in the trunk, reading a map outside or refilling gas from a canister.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very easy to charge Suprisingly bright Effective brightness control
Cons: The charging pull cord seems a little flimsy, so I am unsure how durable it will be...time will tell. So far so good
Other: Useful to have lying around
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - ease to use - no need searching for batteries anymore - compact size
Cons: none so far
Other: It's worth the price and it's just feel so goooooood now knowing I don't need to worry about feeding it batterties all the time!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Smaller than I expected. Works great!
Cons: Absolutely NONE.
Other: You don't even need instructions to work this thing:-)
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: The adjustable brightness is nice, if a bit pointless. The pull crank is easy and so far I haven't run the battery down yet (only played with it a little, haven't done any run testing or anything).
Cons: All plastic construction. The adjustable brightness knob takes 2 "flicks" to turn it on to full brightness, which is a bit annoying since that's what you always have to do. A switch would be simpler.
My flashlight was missing a little roller that smoothes the operation of the pull cord, it has space for two but mine only had one, really didn't make much of a difference though.
Other: It's worth the price to have a flashlight that's not too big to fit in a glovebox or junk drawer that you never have to worry about the batteries. It would be great for power failures.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Brighter and more compact than I expected. It fits in the holster that came with the "20,000 mcd 9 led 3 aaa flashlight I purchased here, which is cool because it looks like the plastic lens would scratch easily. I was expecting traditional "5mm" leds but this thing uses the "watt rated" type generic high output leds for a much brighter beam with more throw! It supposedly uses an Ni-mh battery which is much better than the Ni-cad battery most of these self charging lights use. The all plastic construction is well finished and does not have a cheap feeling. I like the infinitely adjustable switch.
Cons: All plastic construction. You must pull the charging string carefully lining it up with a small roller in the body or you will score the plastic body. A cosmetic problem mostly, although this would undoubtably also cause more wear on the pull string.
Other: Its got my vote for this months coolest new gadget!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Easy to use. Light is pretty good. Light lasts quite a long time with just a few pulls. Charging cord seemed pretty strong. Cheap!
Cons: None at this price.
Other: Great little emergency light to keep in the glove compartment in your car or around the house in case of blackouts!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: -Bright, compact and self powered.
Cons: -Build quality or design could be better.
Other: It could save your life if there is an emergency.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Cheap
Simple to use
Bright
Adjustable brightness
No batteries
Kids love a torch!
Cons: None
Other: My kids love these. They do exactly what it says on the tin, wind it up and off you go - simple!
My kids have had torches for christmas before and the batteries always eventually run out, but not with this torch!!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Surprisingly bright considering it doesn't use batteries.
Charge lasts for ages. Have pulled the cord about 6 times and it worked for 90mins before i got fed up and switched it off!
Cheap to buy.
Lightweight
Cons: Plastic construction, will likely get cosmetic damage with use.
Not sure how long the string will work before it breaks.
Other: Great to have in a drawer in case of a blackout, or in the car for a breakdown.
