  • Nice clear lens, good heft, close close view

Pros: The price! The view! Everyone who has handled this has oohed and ahhed. It really gets you down close. Nice and clear.

Cons: The metal finish was scratched right out of the box, but I don't look through the metal, so I don't care. Cosmetically imperfect, but perfectly functional.

Other: Want a closer look? What're you waiting for?

  • Nice loupe

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a nice light loupe ideal for field trips. Solid metal and glass construction. I compared it with 2 other (more expensive) loupes that I own and it appears to be as good. Comes in a nice little plastic box.

Cons: Not sure what the "30" means. Usually it refers to the magnification as in 30x, 10x etc. This one appears to be a 10x as it magnifies to the same extent as my 10x loupes. Normally I would wear these around my neck so a little bag would be better than a box!

Other: Cheap loupe that does its job. Well worth the buying.

  • Unbelievably good value

Pros: Lens as good as more expensive models. nice finish and build quality. It does what it is supposed to and well.

Cons: While not 30x (as one would expect from the title) it compares well to my 10X loupe. box said 20x17 but correct product inside. These however are minor issues, the product is still worth of 5 stars.

Other: If you need one then buy one of these, you seriously won't be disappointed.

  • Great little magnifier

posted by kiddyl on 18:23:06 G11T 03/11/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Clear lens and good housing. Very comfortable to use it. I use it to check solder fixes, but i think it's also great for a field trip.

Cons: It doesn't seem to be a 30x magnifier. Does it's job well though

Other: Cheap and small magnifier with a clear lens.

  • Quite powerful and good for simple examination

posted by dumdidum on 15:10:50 G11T 29/11/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: As others have said, quite powerful, though the magnification is definitely not 30x - I can however use it to look close up at dandruff flakes

Cons: Other people I've lent it to have found it quite hard to focus or zoom in on a particular area (i.e. at what distance the magnifier and their eye should be). The field of vision is not very wide so you have to hold it quite steady if you're focusing on one spot. Also when mine arrived the screws were a little loose, and there was a bit of rubbish stuck underneath them.

Other: Still pretty good value, build quality is also good considering the price. You might want to consider something else if you need both hands, as it's hard for someone else to hold it exactly where you want it as the slightest adjustment will bring it out of focus.

  • Solid but not great

posted by kpschoedel on 23:33:42 G12T 07/12/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: All metal construction.

Cons: Significant distortion away from the center; despite the thickness, the lens has only one element.

Other: OK for the price, but don't expect too much.

posted by liamjford on 12:15:27 G12T 13/12/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I'd always wanted one of these, but was put off by others high prices. If you like messing with watches, jewlery or electronics then this is great, and cheap!

Cons: Not as powerful as some (but strong enough for me!)

Other: Something nice to have in your pocket when in the countryside, or when doing crafts/experiments at home.
As someone else noted - hold this right up to your eye then bring the object towards the loupe to bring into focus.

  • Handy little thing

posted by Mufasa on 18:27:00 G12T 13/12/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Magnification is enough for jewellery needs. Folds up into a neat little package :).

Cons: The screw on mine started to become loose (too much opening and closing) but it didn't take much effort to tighten.

Other: Cheap, handy and has the potential to be fun.

  • Simple but handy

posted by Sobriquet on 20:41:25 G12T 17/12/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The magnification is strong enough to see the smallest of characters.

Cons: None that I can see from the price you pay.

Other: If you want to read the symbol (Carret rating)that is printed on the underside of your gold ring, this will do the trick!
