Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: *price range for people who do not want to mechanically play around with heads, drivers and LEDs
*all in one solution
*light output
*functionnality and easiness of mode changing
Cons: *somewhat funky beam
*silver paint of the reflector part may go out
*low level mode light output (therefore current) is not always stable
Other: Very good product for DIY (i use it for a diving lamp with 7,2V input voltage), yet wouls be nice to have a better stabilized low mode.

Pros: Great small lamp. Will make an underwater flashlight with it. It has 5 operation modes. When turned off and on it goes back to the last state.
Cons: It gets very hot when using on full power. Operating voltage is 4.8V - 8V. With lower voltages than 4.8V light oputput drops.
Other: Mode changing is done by toggling power to the product with external switch. Circuitry is glitch-proof, so power cycling must be made in about 0.5 second interval. If quicker, it will not react (= glitch). If slower, it will also not react (= memmory function when cycling power).

Pros: What a light gives this unit!
800Lumen, I think that that is an understatement, I have compared with lightsources with known output.
My guess should be , about 1200 lumen.
In high powermode, it draws 2.38A at 8.2 V, in half powermode 1.17A and in low powermode 0.50A.
The throw and beamshape is beyond 2 meter a perfect circle with in the circle a homogenic power, so no Gaussian effect as usual
Cons: You have to sell a flashlight to put it in , what I did.
The difficult way is to build it in a maglite 4-6D, the easy way is to build a Ultrafire WF 1200l,
wich has a similar looking cree-system inside, but with only one mode, wich gives a little less light than this 5 mode unit.
Other: By combining two DX products you can sometime make a better combination.
The original unit of the WL 1200 L flashlight can be used as one (hell of a ) beamer for outdoor-use
or to build a 15 W 1200 lumen light
for homeuse.
with 5X 230V 3 W converters, also available at DX, you can build your own LEDlamp, comparable with a
120 W bulb.
The single mode is in this case an advantage.
After some modding and tuning you can make your own ECO-ledlight wich outclass every commercial ledbulb I've seen before.

Pros: It fit in my Maglight 6D without front-glas. and only little changes to the switch. It is a very bright and white light. It has 5 Memory modes and they work well and easy. the Lamp starts with the last used mode. it run more than 2 hours on high with 6 D cell 1,2 Volt nimh 4000mah accus. The pwm control work well and without flickering.
Cons: the strobe and the sos modes are very useless. it would be better without this. on high mode it get very hot but you can touch short without burn your fingers.
Other: When you have a host than this light is a good choice for you.

Pros: I bought this one to pimp a colleagues M-Lite. Now he's a big fan again of his flaslight.
Works great with 3 disposable D-cells. As I tried it with a 5D light first, there's only a hard noticable difference in light output.
Cons: Not a real one.
For a Mag-Lite it's more a "work-in" than a drop-in. Quite a bit of work is needed to fit, but it's worth it.
Other: If you love your mag but want to have more light, buy this module and spend some work! . You won't regret.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Powerful and well built. Took a lot of machining abuse and worked fine when hooked up.
Cons: M-light conversion is a lot of work. I spent 3 hours at the drill press grinding the inside of the head of the M-Light for it to finally fit. I also machined the bezel of the drop in significantly for it to fit the lens of the light.
Other: If you have some tools and patience, the M-light 5 cell mod makes that old tool new again.

Pros: *This is the second piece I ordered, and it remains very bright for the price. *All in one solution, mechanical parts and driver included, nice for people who do not want to have a full mechanical set up on their own (i use mine to upgrade diving lamps)
Cons: *this piece has been used for the lamp of a friend. It is impossible to change mode, It remains stuck to the max setting (and yes, I know how to change mode, it's working OK on my other model). Therefore the "2 stars " oly on build quality and easy of use". However, my friend told me it was OK so, that he did not need the other modes, so I let it so.
Other: Still a reference for upgrade on price point of view

Pros: Very bright for 1.5A consumption. Nicely focused spot. Good daylight temp.color. Good for DIY lights. Has driver - plug and play :-)
Cons: Quality is questionable. I have had first unit w/driver failure after 13 hrs of work however DX people were very nice to replace it free. The shape of the assembly is not exactly a drop-in module for any light that I have had on my hands hence modification is necessary when it comes to your application. However when it comes to modification is it always better to start with some basic shape such as cylinder not a funnel type body w/thread that doesn't fit into anything. I also have an impression that heat dissipation is not adequate - it warms up to 70C in 22C air in a matter of minutes. It may need a more massive radiator and better contact surfaces (simple geometry and polished) for attaching auxiliary radiator(s).
Other: Very strong option when used in DIY as alternative to professionally manufactured but usually overpriced lights for outdoor activities.

Pros: - very bright - good price for a 5xCree module - easy to use
Cons: - spring contact not always useful - no instruction for it. Had to guess where the plus pole was. (it's in the middle)
Other: I did this with mine: http://www.pictureupload.de/UW-Lampe-gid38887.html
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very bright. Excellent spot and loads of spill. Versatile power input. Easy modification for common American host torches.
Cons: Will get rather hot when using power inputs close to (or above) the maximum.
Other: Yes. Recommended!
