5mW 532nm Stars Light Show Special Effects Green Laser Pen (1*AAA)

Pros: LEGAL TO SHIP TO U.S. Bright, partially visible beam at night. If you add an extra battery (see other thoughts)the power will increase by 200%.

Cons: Not many uses for a laser. You can play with a pet, (my cats love it) or drive people in public places insane. DO NOT POINT AT ANY CARS OR PLANES.

Other: A great laser for the price. I would reccommend it to anyone who is or was ever interested in lasers.
A laser is a dangerous tool and I would not reccomend it for anyone under 16. Please use responsably.

Pros: Its awesome... This is only the 5mW because it was the only legal one that i can get because i live in the USA. but even being only 5mW, it is super super bright. it hurts my eyes even when i shine it on a wall and look at it. And the special tip makes cool light laser show things. it sorta makes it look like very synchronized fireflies flying around. its totally worth the price

Cons: the tip is only to be turned one way, if you turn it the other it will loosen and come off, because it comes seperate, you have to screw it on. The battery that came with mine wasn't so strong, but when i replaced it will a duracell, it was really bright.

Other: BUY IT, you like it.

Pros: - Excellent price for the laser, the Diffraction tip is fun to play with.
- Very bright on Alkalines, some issues with NiMH rechargeables.

Cons: - The lasers appear to be direct drive, input voltage affects the output severely, to the point where NiMH batteries will deliver mixed results (of the 3 units purchased, only 1 is decent on NiMH, the rest are.... marginal in usability). One will work alright on NiMH, one will be extremely dim, the other one goes bright and dim.
- Build quality is mixed, the diffraction tips are variable in quality (one's super tight and hard to change, another one's decent), and the laser output is minutely affected by pressure applied to the button (in the opposite way, press harder and it gets dimmer)

Other: Good laser for the cost, but for optimal usage run alkalines. NiMH voltage is too low for them to operate properly, or at full brightness. NiZn were not tested, but MIGHT lead to far better results (as long as it doesn't burn the laser out!) due to the 1.7V operating voltages.

Pros: i was thrilled to find this on dx and was even more thrilled when i got it in the mail. This laser is extremely cool and blows the minds of all the people ive showed it too. its nice and compact for easy pocket carrying. very bright and really fun to use.

Cons: It does eat batteries pretty fast, but, the case comes with a little compartment (which dx supplied the first battery in) so you can always keep a spare inside of it.

Other: Fantastic purchase for the price, ill probably buy more just because i want them, and probably to give people as gifts

- Excellent for astronomy
- Small and easy to carry thanks to the box
- Funny to use with the head that create wonderful effect
- Optimum like a pointer

Cons: - After some time of continous using the beam lose power
- Drain battery pretty fast

Other: Also if it's only 5 mw, NEVER turn it in your eyes or in someone else eyes.

Cons: -battery dies kinda fast -laser dulled a bit after the first day, even when I put in new batteries

Other: Buy it. maybe an extra one too to give or sell.

Pros: -Cheap -Cool looking -Bright -Small -Eye safe* -AAA battery

Cons: -The battery that comes with is dead -Sometimes I have to give it a shake or press the button kinda hard for it to turn on -The warning sticker comes on the opposite side of the output, I'm just not used to that

Other: If you want a laser to play with, for indoor usage or to play with your cat this is a great choice!

Pros: It came in a nice little box which would make a good impression as a gift.
It uses one AAA battery and is thus smaller than the 2x AAA lasers available.
The starfield grating is a nice addition, which create some nice effects.
To mention the laser beam itself its quite sharp for >5mW

Cons: Having just 1xAAA you will have to change the battery at a higher frequency.
Easy to lose the grating head.

Other: Its definatly worth it

Pros: Decent price for the quality.
Includes the little "star" cap to make cool patterns.
Small size.

Cons: Very dim. Without the "star" cap, it looks pretty good; not nearly as bright as most other 5mW pointers I've had but bright enough to use as a general-purpose pointer (meetings/presentations etc). However the star cap cuts the brightness drastically (about 90%), so usually I can't even see it in a room with the lights on.

Other: Decent as a pointer, but nothing special. The stars are useless other than just to show off the effect in the dark.
If you're concerned about eye safety, then I guess this one is nice and weak. Still not safe for children, but low-power enough to not have to really worry about safety.
If you want one that is visible without total darkness, you need a higher-power one.
I think most lasers over 5mW are far too bright for safe use as pointers and I care about safety. I thought about trying the 10mW next but after seeing how dim this one is I'm just going to go for the 30mW as I mainly wanted this one for the star effect and not for use as a pointer.
Remember to be conscious of safety when using the star cap and scattering dangerously-bright beams of light about!

Pros: I though that it was weak but when I turned it on.. My god it's so powerfull for a small laser... I almost blinded my self when I was changing the batteries... Awesome for a first laser with a small price here in Brazil you would pay U$75 for something like that... In the night you can se cleary the laser beam the range is about 1,5 km

Cons: When you're changing the batterires it's kind of squeaky...

Other: Don't give it for children it can blind and hurt your eyes... the light show effects are increadbly beatifull...
