  • Perfect kit for making 7" screens touch sensitive

posted by HenrikSP on 18:42:37 G6T 23/06/2008 certificated customer

Pros: I used this for my carputer 7" LCD screen. Easy to install, both hardware- and software-wise. Responds well, both with fingertapping and with a stylus. Software that comes with it supports most windows releases expect vista (I have NOT tried though!). For linux drivers, check out discussion forums for asus eee pc. Software makes this kit VERY configurable. You can easily configure how to make double clicks, right-button clicks and anything else you would expect from a proffesional soft-/hardware brand.

Cons: On third delivery, the flat connector cable from the film was not as wide as on the picture, but the connector on the circuit board was wide. This forced me to do some soldering work.

Other: This is a DIY product, it works GREAT for those who are able to understand how it works and connects. But it could be difficult to work out for those with less knownledge about similar products.

  • Nice touchscreen/tablet/etc

Pros: Arrived in one piece (first try) - that's always good. Software is excellent. I don't have a 7" monitor, so i'm using it like a tablet. You can use fingers, stylus, whatever. It is quite accurate, does the job. The software lets you set any portion of the screen to be active with the tablet. A corner, a half, a rectangle 100 pixels to the left and 200pixels down of 160x100 or whatever, the combination is endless.

Cons: Will probably get damaged easily if you're not putting it in a 7" monitor casing. I'd suggest a 5x7 photo frame or something (its halfway between a 4x6 and a 5x7 ~4.25 x 6.5

Other: Great buy for a 7" touchscreen or as a cheap tablet (which can be used in the future for a 7" monitor, or can be used for a partial touchscreen when placed over a larger monitor)

  • Purchased for Carputer Project

    Pros: Arrived in one piece.
Works nearly exactly how I wanted it to.
Was fairly simple to install in the housing of the original LCD screen I used.
Had no problems getting my computer to find it or calibrating it.
More durable than I thought considering I cracked it while installing it, and it still works completely fine.

Cons: It is kind of difficult to figure out which way the wire connects from the screen to the controller board, but with a little common sense you should be able to figure it out.
The ribbon cable coming from the LCD also seems as if it is going to break, but I have not had a problem.

Other: I was suggest this to anyone with a little mechanical knowledge that would like to make a touchscreen monitor for whatever you would like. It was very simple to install and works exactly as it should.

  • Good kit

Pros: I bought it for upgrading my Asus Eee PC 701. This device makes netbook more convenient in use. Good pressing sensitivity. Good price. The kit I'd received has been well packed and not hurt during delivery. The integrated board of the touchscreen controller and USB hub has rather small size, it is not too difficult to find a place for it inside the netbook.

Cons: Buggy built-in USB hub. If I increase CPU clock by eeectl program, touchscreen and all devices connected through this hub will become shut down. At first they working stably, and then become unstable and finally disabled. Only the setting the stock CPU frequency and mechanical disconnecting-connecting of hub helped. All works well on stock CPU frequency (630 MHz). I want to have an ability to use higher CPU frequencies, so I have tried to connect the touchscreen controller directly to USB port, passing hub. After this operation, touchscreen worked stably at any frequency of the CPU (630-900 MHz). To make connection under such circuit with included cables, I cut 2 signal tracks which connect the USB_IN plug and the USB chip-splitter, and soldered them directly to touchscreen controller' USB-input pins. As a result, there is stable-working system, however the built-in webcam can not be connected, I will order separate USB-hub and connect webcam through it.
Most likely, all the problems are because USB-hub in my kit is defective.

Other: Excellent set (if is not defective) for netbook modification. It is especially useful for building Car PC basing on a netbook.
