  • Beware of the connections....

Pros: It is simple to use. You just put in the batteries, plug you USB device in and it works. It even charges my PSP while playing. Only use NiMH Batteris. There is NO voltage regulator in this unit

Cons: The unit I received had the battery connection mixed up. Polarity was reversed on the USB socket. Luckily I checked that with a voltmeter. Otherwise I might have fried my PSP. So I basically had to resolder the connections, which was not made easier by the fact that the insulation is done by hot glue... All in all the build quality is terrible.

Other: Get it if you feel safe using it. The price is a bit steep though. 4 $ for something that you can solder yourself from parts for 2.50. And solder you probably will anyway :-)

Pros: It's a simple device that can charge any USB device.
However need to check the voltage & current output before charging with new type of batteries as there are no regulators.

Cons: There are NO Voltage & Current (mAH) regulator.
Has a very bad quality of workmanship. When I got my device:
    1) the USB connection was dented/cracked. But just need to straighten it and it looks ok.
    2) one part of the casing dropped off. Need to glue it back.

Other: The build can be better and the USB head should be protected (at least with a foam or just bubble wrap)

Pros: + It powers your gadgets and charges low power devices
+ Small and easy to carry it inside your bag

    Cons: - Very cheaply built
    - No regulator, it directly power your device
    - The tab covering the wires fell off the first time I open the battery cover, but it is not a big issue as it can be glued back

Other: If you are always on the move, this simple device will be very handy if your gadgets run out of power. AA batteries is easily available too but you must remember to bring along your gadget USB cable.

  • AA-Battery USB Emergency Backup Power

Pros: Wonderful product. Now I've not used this to charge any batteries yet but as a backup power pack it works flawlessly. It is well-built and well-sized. You know those poorly-made products that has undersized battery compartments? This is nothing like that. Overall great product.

Cons: There is a screwhole on the cover but strangely it doesn't come with screws. It's designed to secure the cover when closed and is necessary because frankly the clip doesn't hold the cover very tightly. Anyway, I found a suitable screw and drove it in, no more worries about batteries falling out!
Oh yes, another thing is the female USB connector - currently the metal part is exposed and can scratch you or your bag and stuff. They should've chosen the enclosed version of connector instead.

    Other: Convenient.

  • Bad build quality

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: - Easy to use
    - Takes 4 standard AA batteries

Cons: - Really bad build quality
    - Lacks screw for the lid to the battery cover
    - Part to cover the wiring and on/off-button on the inside was entirely loose. Which turned out to be a good thing, because A) the on/off button didn't work, and B) the wiring was soldered on so it actually short circuited the batteries!
    - Loose USB cable just barely attached by the inner cables.
    - No voltage adjustment

Other: It's worth it's weight in plastic, barely as is. With a little fixing and patience it's usable.

Pros: flimsy construction aside, this is quite useful to have if you need to power up USB devices. I used this when we had a brownout for 8 hours. I just plugged in 4 nimh batteries, hook up my USB fan, placed rubber bands to prevent the cover from slipping, and I have an instant fan that runs for hours on end. :)

Cons: Flimsy construction! I wish they could have taken their time in making these. They're really quite useful, but if you're not patient enough to correct the flaws of this product, then it'll just end up in the trashcan for sure.
Hope they can lower the price a bit more.

Other: Quite useful - if you disregard the poor construction. But if you're a handyman, a little fixer-upper will help. So far, the most useful item I've bought from DX ;)

Pros: Very handy for travelling or knowing you don't have another 'source' around.
Just insert the almost everywhere seen batteries ;-) .
The voltage is alright too, no problems with any device I used with it.

Cons: Build quality is not best, but what do you expect for that price?
Mine had a break in the wire. So I had to shorten the wire a little bit till the point where the break was...

Other: Very handy for the times you don't have an outlet or laptop/ desktop.
    Great product for the price!

Pros: this is a small device with no useless extras like a rubish flashlight or an indicator just a swith with on/off it takes four AA batteries instead of two. and it is easy to open the device and put the batteries in place.

Cons: the cover slides off realy easy and there is a recess for a screw to hold the cover in place but there is not one included.

Other: do get this product it works like a charm and is very easy to use, only if the cover would not come off so easily i would rate this product fice stars.

Pros: lightweight, no extra stuff to go wrong. just an on switch. bought it cos thought it might be useful. next day used it to charge my phone! Very cheap solution and can take rechargeable or normal batteries in an emergency.

Cons: the plastic is quite thin, i'm not sure how much it will withstand being carries around. i think a scfew is no longer provided for closing the battery compartment (i bought 2 and was missing from both) but it stays closed and I guess you can always use one if you want.

Other: can't go wrong for this price.
