Pros: For this price you get a funny digital sensor. Copy and paste the code found on the internet, and you will get a serial or USB temperature and humidity sensor. Connect your arduino to a raspberry pi, make it send the results through SNMP and your cacti server will be able to monitor humidity and temperature in your room :) => only 4 hours of work to make it working !

Cons: After the firsts moments being excited, I noticed two major problems: - temperature and humidity are ALWAYS integer numbers: it's not really a problem for humidity, but temperature is not enough precise. I used to work with LM35Z sensors and Dallas DS1820: those were so precise that I was able to see if someone entered the room, or if a computer was left working. - temperature is really not accurate: I was surprised to have "24°C" in my computer room (15 cores in 6 square meters ...), instead of 27°C. I verified with 4 different thermometers: all were agree on 27°C ! On the other side the humidity sensor is really funny, and looks accurate (I do not have any way to check its accurancy).

Other: I bought this sensor to prototype an SNMP sensor an arduino and a Raspberry PI: I was able to validate the process in 4 hours: from the sensor wiring to the cacti configuration.

Pros: As you can see it's very very cheap, Altough it is not as accurate as dht22 it is enough to begin.

Cons: The pins can be easily deformed, so you should be careful. Additionally you should be careful about the connections, too, because it gets too hot and it can cause problems about your measurements in future.

Other: It is just good with this price.

  • Cheap sensor, great bang for the buck

posted by KyleS on 21:21:09 G7T 15/07/2012 certificated customer

Pros: It's mounted to a PCB, has a pull-up resistor. This means less wear-and-tear on the sensor if you move it between projects, and the pull-up means no hunting for the right resistor (OK, that part doesn't take much hunting, but still).

Cons: The sensor on here is known to be slow & low accuracy, so it's intended for data-loggers and the like. There are no specs provided, the build quality is iffy. The first one I got was shorted out, so it just got hot and my computer turned off the USB port to save itself. But, like always, DX replaced it for me with a minimum of fuss.

Other: If you want to play with a temperature or humidity sensor that doesn't need rapid-read times, this is perfect.

  • Reasonable sensor

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It works It's cheap Temperature and humidity readings are reasonably stable and precise.

Cons: Sensor is inaccurate, you need to calibrate it in your code. Slow to respond to changes in environment. Small range of sensitivity 0-50c (32-122F). Not well protected. Those last two means, probably indoor use only.

Other: Temperature sensor for indoor use, that requires you do a little bit of thinking, measuring and testing if you want accurate readings.

Pros: The manufacturing quality is very good, check the external and internal temperature and humidity. The margin of error comparing it with another thermometer is + - 2 ° Celsius. It has a system that sets the minimum and maximum temperature recorded, and you can reset at any time.

Cons: no cons, everyting is fine. Easy install and best work

Other: If you are from those people who likes to know the temperature at all times to this product will not regret. 100% recommended

  • great price for a DHT11 chip

    posted by Chips11 on 12:15:04 G9T 19/09/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very easy to use an interface with Arduino; simply copy and paste code from the arduino website and you'll be up and running. Seems to be relatively accurate. Temp not as good as the ds18b20, but good enough for most hobby applications. Humidity sensor is very good though...when you breath on it you see an instant response

Cons: They did some funny rerouting of the pins from the DHT11 to the output pins. Also, no labels on the output pins. You can see the traces though and the DHT11 pins are well labeled so it should be no problem to figure out what goes where.

    Other: Less than anywhere else.

  • Neat module for temperature based projects.

    posted by david.vinazza on 11:42:25 G10T 05/10/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: * It's very simple to use. * Can be used with protoboards. * It's easy to ship. It was delivered on time and flawlessly. * There are tons of projects involving this component.

Cons: * Since it is designed to use with protoboards, might not be the best sensor to buy if we plan to use it in a definite project. * It's very sensitive to voltage, use it with care and test its values before using it for real.

Other: * This arduino compatible modules are awesome. Easy to undersand and fast to deploy!

Pros: This Temperature sensor Module for Arduino is very easy to use. You ll need only to copy the code from the internet or if you are learning arduino, like me, you ll need this module to complete all exercises fmo the book of Arduino.

Cons: So, this is my first review from the product that was spent 1 month to arrived in my house. So, i living in Brazil... Here, nothing works.

Other: I bought this module to create a sensor for my room. I know that is more cheap to buy a watch with a sensor, but is more cool when you do it.

Pros: Solid quality, print and soldering are ok. Nice compact unit, will fit in any enclosure. Plan to use it in my Arduino units thruoghout the house. The unit is fairly standard, and arduinolibs are widely availav Ble.

Cons: Nothing that I can think of, except maybe that the price is not extremely low, I see this on ebay for less. But still buy at dx for service reasons.

Other: Ok product offering. Price could be a bit lower, but good enough.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very easy to use and deploy in a solution with arduino boards. Only need to download the DHT11 library from https://www.virtuabotix.com/ and learn how to use in the same page. Very easy to use.

Cons: The measures are of type INT, not FLOAT, but is not a really problem. The measure is very accurate.

Other: The data is more than temperature and humidity, also you have boil temperature...
