  • Good universal reflective sensor

    posted by 2rb1lj on 07:32:45 G6T 08/06/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a simple and well working reflective sensor based on a LM393 comparator and a Vishay TCRT5000 (or similar) reflective optical sensor. Mine works from 2.95 Volts with a sensing distance about 5 mm.

Cons: The sensor is a little skewed on the PCB, but nothing that can't be corrected with a soldering iron. The variable potentiometer takes up too much space when mounting.

Other: Overall - God price and function.

Pros: I plan to use it in some of my odd jobs in order to do a number of experiments. Too early to talk about the results, but this sensor is very useful to me. It really easy to use with Arduino board in various projects. I recommend sthisensor to those who know how to apply it in DIY designs.

Cons: no significant defects. Got what I expected.

    Other: good luck!

Pros: This is a nice and compact sensor, build quality is good, connector is ready for a standard Dupont type plug. Price is very good, these sensors cost a multiple of this price when purchased locally.

Cons: The sensor does not have a Smitt trigger. This means that you will need a very "clean" signal, otherwise the start and end of the signal may cause fluttering. This makes the sensor useless when the signal is very rapid or very slow.

Other: Given the low price, this is a good sensor to play around with. Don't be disappointed if it turns out not to work properly in your application, because of the lack of the Smitt trigger logic.

Pros: Relatively cheap, can be used in many ways. Directly compatible with arduino, just connect vcc to 5V, grnd to grnd and out to whichever digital input pin you want. It sports a red led diode which is lit when a white object is detected - useful while prototyping.

Cons: -pins arrived bent. Potentiomenter arrived bent. -Not sure if this is a con, but it will detect any light colored object (a finger), not only black-white.

Other: Extremely easy to use, very useful and fun.
