What is Bulk Rate? BulkRate is a semi-wholesale system with items priced separately from retail. When you use bulk rates, a flat $1.70 registered air mail fee will automatically be added to your cart to ensure delivery of package. While BulkRate's intention is to offer cheaper prices when you buy in bulk, because it is priced separately it on occassions show a higher than retail price. That's why we ask you to enter BULKRATE as a coupon code to manually activate the rates. You can always opt not to use the bulk rates. Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Five modes - the usual high, medium, low, strobe, SOS. It does a real SOS rather than SOSOSO which many do. It has mode memory - it comes on in the mode you last left it in. The build quality is exceptionally good. I've not felt such nice threads on a light before. Mode memory is a biggie for me. Can swap heads with the Aurora SH-032. sku.32563
Cons: Stainless steel is not as good a conductor of heat as aluminium. It's pretty big for a CR123 light, and it would be nice if it'd tailstand.
Other: I like this one a lot. Recommended strongly.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: 1) Stainless Steel construction = threads that wont strip like Aluminum lights. Excellent machine work too. 2) Big 20mmx20mm reflector should gather and concentrate more light than smaller 1*CR123A lights. 3) Shorter than pictured. Body only 85mm long without protruding tailcap cover. Replace tailcap cover with sku 7321 and it tailstands. 4) Brass pill accepts standard sized 17mm PCB driver .
Cons: 1) heavy, Heavy, HEAVY! Noticibly heaveier than the solid brass (chrome plated) UltraFire WF-C6S which even though is one of the smallest clicky 16340s, was also one of the heaviest until this one came along. 2) Not the nice mirror finish shown in the DX pics. The one I received has a burshed steel fisish. :( 3) Holes in tailcap too close together to replace the wrist strap with the same size split-ring (#4?) that fits most other lights like the SH-033 and the UF C3. 4) 5-mode boost driver is under powered, only drawing ~700mA from the battery in high mode. Looks like its the same driver as in the new XRC based AA/14500 SS UltraFire C3 and the CR2 Aurora SH-033. 5) Replacement switches and reflectors for this light are not presently available from DX (as opposed to the switches and reflectors found in the C3 and SH-033 which can be bought here).
Other: A very solid (heavy) stainless steel light with very ordinary output despite its larger reflector.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Clean beam profile - good clicky tension - well machined - unique design
Cons: - weight (personally I think it is quite heavy) - a bit pricey - comparing against my other CR123 flashlight, this one a tad larger.
Other: It is very well made and excellent flashlight.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: This flashlight looks stunning. The build quality, fit, finish and heft makes it a pleasure to hold and carry. The muted graphics on the head of the flashlight was well designed so as to not distract from the lights high class looks.
Cons: The lanyard is too weak to carry the robust weight of the flashlight. Although it carries the weight of the flashlight am not confident that it will last very long with continued use. The light output on high is fair and not as blinding as my Cree R5's using a single 14500. The light beam is ok with a decent defined hot spot surrounded by plenty of wash but there are very noticeable ring artifacts. The 5 mode UI is ok but there is a flash sequence issue with the S.O.S. pattern.
Other: The shortcomings of the flashlight are tolerable taking into consideration it's very competitive price. I know the flashlight would have been more expensive with the improvements needed. The quality of the host deserves the rest of the flashlight to be of the same quality. I would easily buy another if Aurora came out with another version of this flashlight with the improvements needed.
