BAOFENG 1.5" LCD 5W 136~174MHz / 400~470MHz Dual Band Walkie Talkie w/ 1-LED Flashlight (Black)

Pros: Dual-band operation, covering the 2m band (136-174MHz) and 70cm band (400-480MHz). Very light for a 5w radio. Includes a FM radio receiver, is possible to listen to an FM station while monitoring two different frequencies on either band. A dedicated button makes easy to switch transmission from one frequency to the other. It has a LED flashlight included. Comes with in-ear headphone and PTT.

Cons: I can't see any.

Other: Nice product, unbeatable price.

Pros: Low cost, good sound, small size, dual band (2m/440) I can afford to buy this without saving up for several months. If it gets lost, stolen or dies I'm not out a lot. It has most of the functions I'm interested in. It sounds good and takes fairly easy to find accessories. At this price both my wife and I can afford to have them (she's a ham operator too). These would be great as incentives for kids (think scouts etc) to get their licenses.

Cons: Have to wait for it to come from Hong Kong! Some have reported some RF issues (poor image rejection, low sensitivity, desensing in the presence of other RF, etc...) but I haven't had opportunity to see evidence of these. Programming is weird. The only way to really program it easily is with software and a usb cable (usually sold separately). Manual is in chinese with very limited english translation

Pros: Good build quality, feels professional Very sensitive reception, even with original antenna

Cons: Although the build quality is good, it is a bit plasticy. Nothing flimsy about it though. Programming is extremely painful, you should buy the USB programming cable with this. The power plug is US type, so you might need an adapter for that. It is 100-240v, so it will work.

Other: Works as expected. If you need an handheld uhf/vhf transceiver, get this one. Will buy more.

Pros: Great value, tons of features for a low price. Range and battery life are good. The LED displays are neat, and can be turned off if you want to save battery life. The battery last pretty long and is quiet while charging.

Cons: Programming on some firmware version may be hard. It took me a few days to be able to figure out the programming with the cable. I had to download the VIP software from Baofeng, and change the buad rate to 18400 to get it to work.

Other: This is a good quality radio that is well worth the money. Before trying to transmit with it check the laws in your area to make sure you use the correct frequencies.

Pros: This radio is absolutely great concerning features. It has 4 Watts of output power on 2m and 70cm. Also you can use the FRS, PMR446, and PRS on this radio. The offset function for repeater use makes life much easier than having 2 seperate channels for r input and output. Very easy to program using the usb cable which is sold seperately.

Cons: Having said that PC programming is easy to do; programming using the keypad is an absolute nightmare. The steps are confusing and the manual is next to useless and doesn't describe any manual programming steps. Youtube is the best place to find tutorials and there are indeed some very informative videos there. Stock rubber duck antenna is not very good. I personally recommend a Nagoya NA-771 which gives much better coverage.

Other: If your looking for a cheap, solidly built VHF/UHF transciever this will do perfectly. You will not find a cheaper radio anywhere on the internet with the Baofeng UV-5R's quality and features. Buy It!.

Pros: Good and very cheap radio for amateurs. Range and battery are very good. Automatic battery charger, repeater function, headset, belt clip...etc.

Cons: None that I have discovered. Does not ship with programming software and programming cable. US plug... I bought an EU connector.

Pros: Easy to use, clear audio and for the price allot better quality than expected. I've had it for about an hour and have pretty much learnt how to use most of the features.

Cons: the default software did not work for me so i used chirp and it worked well. USB cable not included but did purchase the one linked.

Pros: Good value for money. Once programmed for your frequencies easy to use. Nice loud speaker for noisey environments. Small and light enough to go in pocket when working and cheap enough to worry too much if it gets dropped. Good being able to priority monitor 2 channels and good to be able to listen to FM broadcast station and still monitor priority frequency. A wideband VHF/UHF radio. Good reciever bandwith.

Cons: Poor user manual but plenty of helpful postings on the web. Seems complex to program manually until you get use to it. I can't find a way to temporarily skip a programmed frequency during scanning (which can be useful).

Other: Good value for money. I use it in noisy conditions on farm. Great for monitoring my local emergency services for fire etc
