    Pros: cheap,works,master/slave jumper

Cons: hasone pin too many, for 44pin ide/pata connectors you have to have one pin missing so you can't place the connector upsidedown. This item as bought does not fit on sku 474 (usb2 to ide cable)

Other: usefull tool, especially if you want to replace your harddisk with a CF card. Cheap, but might require modification for your purpose

Pros: Easy to use adapter when you want to use a cf card as harddisk.

Cons: The shipment I received had a pin too much as well.

Other: Cheap and easy solution when you want to use your cf card as a harddisk.

  • Cheap adapter card for Notebooks

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This little friend is a CF Adapter for Notebooks, ok it is what I have expected. It is very cheap, soldering is ok, but not perfect. Yes, one pin is too much, but no problem in bending it away. Worked imediately in the second IDE channel of my notebook.

Cons: I have hoped to get an adapter which will noteiced as a harddrive if I put in a CF card. Purpose was to get a test installation of windows installed at this device OR to install it as a second harddrive to the second IDE channel and to use it as a fast drive for my RAM cache.
Unfortunately both options do not work, as it will alwas be found and installed as a removable device. So useless for me.

Other: Cheap - if you need one - BUY IT!

  • Boots XP, Linux from CF card on old notebook

posted by oscartango on 22:10:15 G8T 12/08/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Works flawlessly, no moving parts. I used this adapter to install and boot Windows XP, Ubuntu and Puppy Linux from 4GB CompactFlash cards on a Toshiba Tecra 8100 laptop. The adapter just snapped into place instead of the original hard drive. It let me format the CF card to FAT32, Ext2, Ext3 and NTFS, and booted just fine from each. I was pleasently surprised to discover it also has a red LED that blinks when the cards is accessed -- a nice touch given it's completely silent.

    Cons: None, really.

Other: Love it, will use it again.

  • Cheap Adapter card, Boot XP from CF Card

posted by Rvillarama on 10:23:36 G9T 19/09/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I used this adapter with a 2GB CF flash on an old laptop and installed XP. It booted ok (have to format the Card to NTFS).
It is completely quiet compared to the moving arm of a HDD.

Cons: The card can easily be installed the wrong way especially if your laptop interface does not have pin blocked.
The adapter is easy to install if your hdd location is underneath the laptop but pain if you need to push it from the side or front of the laptop. Once installed, it stays in place.

Other: very cheap solution if you want to have a CF card as harddrive.

  • Works with microdrive

posted by ewhobbes on 23:07:42 G12T 28/12/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Works with CF, microdrives, and CF readers (mine was a type II CF card that reads SD cards).
The microdrive I was using does not fully support the PC-Card interface (it's a Seagate ST650211CF drive with firmware version 3.04; one of my CF reader will refuse to read it), but it still could be used with this adapter.

Cons: On certain connectors, there's 1 pin blocked to prevent the drive to be plugged in the wrong way. This pin is there on this, so I had to remove it by bending it repeatedly.
The 44-pin connector is soldered so that the protruding ends on the soldered side comes out on the bottom when compared to 2.5" drives. On SKU 8821 and a laptop of mine, there's no space allowance on the bottom, so if I just use it directly, it would scratch the surface. I had to file it off to prevent scratching and to prevent it from tilting up. Wish they designed it so the PCB is on the top of the CF card.

Other: Great way to get a SSD into laptops if you've figured out how to minimize writes from your OS. I used it to replace a noisy HDD with a microdrive (which is more quiet). Also used it in USB enclosures. Definately useful.

  • Cheap SSD drive :)

    posted by norbiv8 on 13:31:28 G1T 04/01/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy to use, light weight. Master/slave jumper, activity LED, 4 assembly hole. Medium soldering quality. Work fast with my old laptop :) The BIOS detect it like HDD :)

Cons: Must cut off the pin #20 ( like in the preview picture), because in this position no hole in the 44pin female connector in my laptop. Maybe this pin blocked to prevent the drive to be plugged in the wrong direction.

Other: Buy it and make SSD drive!

  • Using it right now!

posted by alter on 23:54:01 G1T 09/01/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Great gadget! Very simple. and allows you to use very cheap CF cards to create makeshift SSDs (Solid State Drive).

Cons: There are only two drawbacks to this product. One is the size. Although it is very small, it turned out not to be thin enough for my old libretto. The metal leads would touch the sides of the laptop. But should be more than thin enough for most laptops. The second drawback is the need to clip pin 20 in order to get it to work.

Other: Great! Bring new life to your old laptops! Make them lighter, more silent, and more power efficient!

Pros: The build quality is very good, and I do have several of these. I have never received a DOA. Works with many devices, and withstands excessive use in an engineering environment.

Cons: They grow legs and walk off...

Other: If you need one for anything; these will work just fine for you, and they will last a long time.
