What is Bulk Rate? BulkRate is a semi-wholesale system with items priced separately from retail. When you use bulk rates, a flat $1.70 registered air mail fee will automatically be added to your cart to ensure delivery of package. While BulkRate's intention is to offer cheaper prices when you buy in bulk, because it is priced separately it on occassions show a higher than retail price. That's why we ask you to enter BULKRATE as a coupon code to manually activate the rates. You can always opt not to use the bulk rates. If you are looking for wholesale prices please feel free to contact us.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Has pins for 3.3V, RST, TXD, RXD, GND and 5V, as well as unpopulated pin headers for DTR, DSR, RTS, CTS, SPD, SPD1, DCD and RI. So even if you need hardware flow control or any other rather uncommon features you're good to go. - Works out of the box with Linux with the cp210x module - Comes with a nice colored cable
Cons: Nothing I can think of really. I'd have liked a 2.54mm to 2mm cable and the unpopulated pins could have a pin header on them as well, but these are minor details.
Other: Really handy to have one or two of them around when doing embedded development or anything like that. Probably better than SKU 81872 because of the different pins if you need them (also cheaper)
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Does what it is claiming to do. Delivered with a bunch of nice jumper cables that can be used for other things. More signals brought out to connection points DTR data terminal ready, DCD data carrier detect (What it does I have not checked) RI ring indicator DSR data set ready, CTS clear to send. DTR/CTS can probably be used for HW flow control, I have not tried.
Cons: Seems that the CP2102 does not have a unique identity for each chip so under Windows 7 I have not been able to use more than one at a time. Using a similar FTDI chip, each device gets its own virtual communications port like COM5 COM6 etc. but the CP2102 all devices get the same VCP. Might be a workaround, have not consulted the data sheet for CP2102
Other: A little expensive compared to other DX products of this complexity level.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very small. Uses a well known and reliable chipset. Supported for WinXP through to Win8, 32 & 64 bit. Best price for functionality. I needed access to DTR and RTS which are available.
Cons: A data sheet would be good. What does the reset pin do? Output to reset an Arduio or is it an input to reset the module?
Other: Excellent value for money and no problems with fake chipset that won't work with official drivers.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: English: Have all the pins you need: 5V, 3.3V, GND, TXD, RXD and RESET. You have DTR, DCD, CTS, DSR and all the pins you have in a REAL serial port. Español: Es un puerto serie real RS-232. Tiene todos los pines. Inclusive control de flujo por hardware.
Cons: English: None. Español: Ninguna.
Other: English: Buy it if you need a REAL USB serial port. Español: Cómperlo si necesita un puerto USB - serie que sea totalmente compatible con RS232.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Cheap, small, well usb support, all RS232 signals available. It's perhaps the only full signal interface offered by DX. I've ordered two from 2012/12 to now, and last received have a 5 pin headed flat cable instead of earlier 4 single cables, so it's more simple to connect to Arduino board that requires DTR signal. Both 5 and 3,3V are supplied.
Cons: Not really a con: both received have little differences from the DX images. In detail, are missed the SPD and SPDI usb control signals. Not a big deal, their use is very not usual, but I've to advise you. Lack connection monitoring, there is a power-on led only. Also, for embedding, is surely much more useful a mini-USB female connector, that seem to be not very usual in DX USB interface. Perhaps, would be better to replace reset line with DTR to comply with FTDI interface.
Other: Reset is the INPUT line to resetting usb interface so Host OS can re-enumerate it.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Easy to use, has default drivers for Win7. Just connect Rx/Tx and GND to the board and insert it into a USB connector on your computer and your ready to go. Full documentation and application notes for this chip can be downloaded from www.silabs.com.
Cons: Have not discovered any real cons with this product yet.
Other: If you need a simple to use USB to TTL converter that is not expencive, this is a great choice
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: The board is well-made with good solder joints and a secure USB connector. A five-conductor female-to-female ribbon cable is included. The drivers are available from SiliconLabs for the CP2102 chip. The board works with baud rates from 110 and 921600.
Cons: The board delivered does not have any control lines, just TXD and RXD (along with 3.3V, 5V, RST and GND).
Other: A nice little board, but I need the control signals (at least either RTS or DTS).
