Cree Q5 LED 5-Mode Drop-in Module (3.6V~7.2V Input)

Pros: + Springs are nice and big + Center contact soldered well + Unit can be easily taken apart to replace LED with another CREE if needed

+ Made of metal for heat dissapation

Cons: - Springs were not ground flat--had to be done manually.

- Sticker has to be peeled off and residue removed--started to smell bad after a few minutes on high with 2x3.7 Li-Ion

Other: Great little module for the price. I am pleased with the smaller diameter, which will let me put this module in some smaller lights I have around that use the typical 3xAAA batteries with 5 5mm LED's in them. However, I will have to be wary of the heat this unit--along with other similar units--puts out.

I am almost ready to put one of these on my RC monster truck so that I can drive at night. It really lights up the path!

Pros: Came with the "silver" cree led. Fairly bright on high, and very dim on low; in fact after 15 minutes on low, entire insert was room temperature. Nice white tint free of blue or purple. Strobe was just the right speed to be truly disorienting on the receiving end.

Cons: Aluminum construction throughout (hard to solder if needed). Not as bright as expected on high. Was noticably less bright than my sku 11621 1 mode. Output on this 5 mode insert was obviously over-rated by the factory. Would not fit any Surefire lights without leaving a small gap after removing the outer spring. It will, however, fire up without any of the problems that some P60 inserts have with the same. Memory is "next mode" instead of same mode or start over. SOS was actually a repeating S-O, S-O. Odd.

Other: Buy it if you want the modes, but for out and out brightness, spend less and get the Q5 or R2 1 mode.

Pros: I needed a light with a good flash mode and a good bright beam. This was it. The flashing mode is fast enough so that I can see what is there (when I am riding bike).
Also build quality is good.

Cons: The modes could be improved.
A suggestion is to the manufacturer is to only change modes if turned off then on in less than a second. If turn off then on in more than a second stay in the same mode. Currently it changes mode every time the unit is turn off then on.
Also I do not find the SOS mode useful at all, although to be fair I am not using it as a torch.

Other: The flash mode (very bright) is extremely good for a cyclist (not sure about other application). The high mode is also bight, maybe not as bright as sku 11836 (R2) but a whiter light which is much nicer on the eye and now this unit has been upgraded to come with a R2 which I am looking forward to getting one (13658)

Pros: The good module with satisfactory modes. It is made under standard P60 that gives the chance to replace with it the out-of-date or broken modules. The diode is planted on thermopaste enough. Comprehensible quality of the soldering. An excellent range of an entrance voltage.

Cons: Modes could be better.
The average and high operating mode visually does not differ. Quality of a reflector strongly suffers. Spend some times a finger along the edges and quite possibly that you will have a covering part on a finger.

Other: You buy also necessarily will find of it application.
