Pros: very bright good focused beam.
more focused than my 900 lumen flash.
It start width the lowest mode and you got two more steps. I think the lowest mode is good enough.

Cons: AAA battery. not so big difference between modes.

    Other: Good flash light
    Best Headlamp I have used

  • Ridiously bright light, great build quality!

Pros: This light is awesome. Very focused, and has very far throw. I'm fairly certain planes would see this light at night!! It lights up a fairly wide space around you as well at night - Something I was concerned about when comparing it to the multiple LED lights.
I took the cover off and it says "Cree" on the PCB board, so I assume it's a real cree LED....But I'm not certain.
Quality is very good - it feels solid and screws together tightly. Battery case is solid and easy to put batteries in and close. It's pretty much all strong plastic, apart from the screw off part on the light, which is probably aluminum light metal.
I thought it would be much bigger than it is, but its quite compact and sits well on my head. It's not too heavy either.
The light inclination movement is perfect and allows you to shine it exactly where you want to. It makes a solid click sound when you move it up and down.
I like that this light looks a little bit different to others on DealExtreme. It's not a boring silver color.

Cons: It's hard to get the middle battery out if you want to replace them. The surrounding ones come out fine, but the middle seems to fit very tightly.
If you had a big head, The strap may not be bigger enough for you. My head is probably a bit above average and I have it on max size to fit my head.
You have to press the button fairly hard to switch between the modes. So you find yourself having to press the button a few times to make it work.
There is not much difference between the output modes in my testing. Because the light output or throw distance is so large, I think it would benefit in having a much lower output mode to save on batteries. YOU DON'T NEED A LIGHT SO BRIGHT! That said, I've not tested it battery life much yet - so it might be quite good with its current modes.
It's not a cheap light, but I like it's build quality, light output.. So I'm sure it would be more reliable and last longer than some of the cheaper lights.
If you used this for an extended period of time, it could get quite uncomfortable. But I think that's the same for any time of headlamp similar to this. So not really a con for this particular light.

Other: If you want a high quality, super bright light - this is the one for you!

  • Very good headlamp

    Pros: Good package
    Good bright white beam
Use AAA (light and easy to find)
    Adjustable and comfortable straps

Cons: It seems less bright than a classical flashlight (e.g. sku.17401) even if it uses the same LED emitter and the same batteries (800-900 mA NiH AAA).
I don't see any difference between the three proposed modes

Other: You have all the advantages of both a headlight and flashlight.
    I'll order another one.

Pros: Good bright light. Says q5, and I believe it. I have a fenix ld20 rated at 180 lumen, and runs off 2 aa batteries, this runs off three aaa, and this is definitely brighter, very tight focus, so it can definitely throw. The lense I believe is plastic, not glass. This is aaa not aa, I had a feeling it was was aaa even tho it said aa, because aa lights are starting to disappear off market.

Cons: Lense was dirty, light scratches after removing and cleaning. reflector was also dirty, plastic smooth refector not aluminum, and plastic lense, not really a con, just wished the reflector was aluminum and the lense was glass.

Other: Worth every cent, now im just going to hope the longevity is as good as my k2 led that this q5 headlamp will replace. This will out shine all the other headlamps here. Believe it.

    Pros: Good focused beam
Lowest setting provides enough light for my purpose.
Nice and light, easy to use on/off button.
Haven't had a problem with batteries running out yet (3 - 4 hours continuous use).

Cons: Slight problem removing middle battery (tightish) but nothing the grip of something like a ballpoint pen can't fix.
Mine runs on AAA's not AA's.

Other: Absolutely no regrets buying this item. Will buy one soon for my nephew, and have showen it off to fellow hunters.

Pros: Decent headlamp. VERY bright and tosses a good beam a long ways, would be great for caving. Lasts a good while on batteries. Not too heavy or uncomfortable, can be aimed up/down.

Cons: Battery case is cheaply constructed, does not look like it will last, but hey it was cheap!

Other: Was worth the money, not the best headlamp nor the worst, but a worthy unit

  • good head light with very bright, very sharp beam

posted by viamator on 08:01:39 G10T 23/10/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - beam very sharp, appr. 5-7 degree; consequently the spot more bright then it from the my P7 900 lumen bike light (but notice, this spot very small and not enough for biking). - time of lighting fairly well, appr 3-4 hours from the one 1000mah accum.set.

    Cons: - you could not change the direction diagram, while you will want to do this time after time; - flashlight not heavy (appr 100gr with accums and without strap), but you will not run with it comfortable, it slip down under the effect of own mass, unfortunately;

Other: good flashlight for example as additional light when you biking, or, when you need to tear out something remote from the dark. for example it would be as variant for night orienteering or rogein.

  • Needs more flood

posted by Hokke on 07:38:15 G10T 24/10/2009 certificated customer

Pros: Super bright headlamp. You can see very well with it to distances up to 100 meters. No SOS-mode which is good. No blinking modes what so ever, very good.

Cons: Light has too much throw. More flood would be better for a working light. You get blinded by the bright spot when looking at something that is too close to you.

Other: Really good headlamp for lighting your way in open grounds. Very good at distances between 5-50 meters. Could have more flood for close up usage.

  • Great lamp for outdoor people

posted by Pyrre on 01:14:36 G10T 28/10/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: -For starters, it´s really bright and you can see things far far away.
-It has a wide light area with bright spot in the middle so you can look futher ahead for example going out with your dogs and you want to see are there ohter dogs or animals near, you use the brigt spot to look further and the rest to see anything closeup.
    -Easy to use
-Good batterylife compared to many other same type LED lights (over few hours at max)

Cons: -Your forehead gets sweaty under the light
-Middle battery is hard to get out with just fingers.
-The spot in the middle is almost too brigth in some weather because it can be blingin when lookin close.
    -Uses AAA-batteries that are pricier.
-Straps are bit too short for european heads.

Other: Good light for anyone who likes goin outdoors. I also use it for small works at home and precision work. Only real gripes that I have is the straps and pricy batteries.

  • Solid value, nice light output

posted by Endurance on 20:30:14 G11T 10/11/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very nice spot in the center with excellent spill that's superior to the Cree P4-WB 3-Mode LED Headlamp. Definitely Q5 brightness, nice switch, reasonably comfortable. Nice and light, barely notice it's there compared to a AA lamp.

Cons: Battery compartment opens a bit too easy and I've already used a short piece of duct tape to keep it from opening accidently when I really don't want it to. Not something you'll want to wear for hours on end or during intense exercise without a baseball cap under it (only a thin piece of non-absorbent foam under lamp).

Other: Solid light comparable to much more expensive Black Diamond and Petzl lights at a fraction of the price. While the construction of the top of the line brand name models might be a little cleaner, this light's output for size is second to none at any price. A piece of duct tape is all that separates this from a $40+ Petzl or Black Diamond.
