  • A decent VHF/UHF dual band radio

Pros: -Good frequency range -CTCSS support -Built in flashlight -Unlocked, works on all frequencies both amateur and commercial -Field-programmable -Reasonable stock antenna -Cross-band operation, so you can theoretically use it for satellite operations -Manual is in english (you'll need it)

Cons: -No DTMF tones -Programmable from PC, but cable is not included -Interface is a little hard to navigate -Almost undoubtedly illegal for commercial use wherever you might live, amateur will depend on your country's regs. -Scanning speed's a little slow, but it's not a scanner anyway.

Other: Comparable big-name radios start at $200, and those come locked. At this price, this is definitely worth it for the ham on a budget or as a spare.

Pros: Very good price on Deal Extreme. I wasn't expecting the very high build quality (fit and finish) on this radio, it's top notch! Seriously, it looks and feels like a top quality radio. Covers 2m and 7-cm Ham, FRS, VHF-FM Marine, and more. Your legality may vary, but it covers the frequencies. The user interface is also much better than expected. It makes sense very quickly, within two hours of using it. Whoever programmed the overall GUI concept is quite clever and logical. RF sensitivity is very good 0.18uV. RF power output (5w) is pretty good too. Battery is great, Li-ion. Supposedly 2000 mAh. Audio quality is good, nice speaker. Not a tinny sound. The display is great, showing 8-digits of frequency and 2.5-digits for channel. No left-off digits here like some radios! There are grooves and rails in the interface of the battery pack and charger base. This means you can charge just a battery pack alone if you have a spare.

Cons: Not many: The inclusion of a flashlight White LED ("Jacklight") is a bit weird. Like one of those goofy "emergency radios" with the crank handle. But the LED is bright and useful, and is quite subtle when not in use. You would hardly know it was there unless turned on. More seriously, there's no DTMF touch-tone at all. No Touch Tones included. The channel scan rate is a rather leisurely 5 channels per second. There's a Bell-shaped indicator for keypad beeps, but no way to turn them off. The indicator for U/V mode is "WX" - huh? The display has an "APO" that's not used at all (who cares?). Manual is good, but has a few problems: "Power switch" means changing the RF output power between H (5w), M (2.5w), and L (1w) - it's not a power (On/Off) switch. They also use "Frequency deviation" when they actually mean "Transmitter offset". That's about it.

Other: Very good radio period. For the price it's a nice surprise. I've posted a blog on-line regarding the QuanSheng TG-UV2 radio to provide more Hints and Tips, but you'll have to find it by yourself.

Pros: Just Plain Awesome! Build quality feels extremely solid in hand. Has a very wide channel/frequency spectrum. In field programing / Front Keypad Nice antenna range! Unlocked for different frequencies! :D Knob has no wobble, extreme plus (does not feel cheap in hand, feels expensive) I heard it works with most kenwood accessories. I picked up ambulances and police dispatch already! Totally awesome!

Cons: No in radio menu, have to memorize the codes to punch in by hand, this is also a plus to keep people who dont know them from messing with it. manual is ok but some functions are mislabeled, bad translation. has a semi unusual antenna connector, for the USA, or that is what I have been told. charging dock could be a better fit, covers some buttons while in dock, and belt clip interferes while in dock, so keep keypad locked when you insert in to charging dock or keep it off.

Other: If you are thinking of getting this , DO IT! Its a totally awesome radio. May not be legal in some countries, and customs in your country may take it if opened. Ive always wandered if customs agents keep items for themselves when they open it and see what the items are :O. But its whatever, if you like it or want it and wana take the risk, order it :).

Pros: build quality and materials at hand is good quality of the voice transmission of high quality batteries for strangling a good hold aforesaid time, I keep 2 days of using the average mode, wide slide to send and receive:
    FM: 88-108MHz (RX); VHF: 136-174MHz
    (RX / TX); UHF1: 350-390MHz (RX / TX); UHF2: 400-470MHz (RX / TX); UHF3: 470-520MHz (RX)
for such money as much frequency you will not find.
a flashlight for my work it superfluous.
Moscow 6 km takes very good

Cons: low speed channel scan but it is not so bad
    No frequency 027-028mhz
very disappointing that the adapter included 110V

Other: their product is worth the money, such radios are other companies within 200-300 $ a good buy

  • Handy very good

Pros: Very good quality. The audio is very good considering the size. Much information on the screen, two simultaneous frequencies to listen. The battery has good standing. Aesthetically good. Compact and robust at a time. I use to connect to repeaters about 22 miles and runs perfect. The direct contacts depend on the height but I have not had any problems. Also I have a VHF ALINCO and found no significant differences in quality. So I will use it for everyday.

Cons: The antenna is a bit long in comparison with the body of handy. But I guess that is because it is dual band

Other: Very good quality, good performance for the price of a single band

Pros: Price to feature ratio is excellent Wide band coverage (FM Radio, VHF, UHF1, UHF2) Strong build quality Easy to learn (even for beginners) Strong battery Excellent receive strength CTCSS/DCS capable

Cons: Scanning speed Some features undocumented No DTMF tones No "voice scramble" feature available

Other: Like another user posted, if you are thinking of getting this radio - GET IT! You will not be disappointed. For the amateur and expert alike, this radio is great. You will not find a better radio with wider coverage for this price. You can't go wrong!

  • Very good radio

Pros: Fantastic price! You will not find such a versatile radio at anything less than twice what this sells for. Great frequency range. Picks up my local taxis, security guards, police, EMS. Feels steady and well made! Comes with a bright flash light Good power. Got about 1km in with simplex communication in a suburb with no line of sight. Haven't tried any repeaters because that would be illegal for unlicensed user like me Very good sound quality especially on UHF FM Radio feature is nice Good english manual

Cons: It doesn't allow 390-400MHz which is annoying because there is some interesting mil air there. The provided AC adapter is for 120V only and is 14VAC out. But don't fear, I used a 12V DC 1A adapter from a router and it worked fine :) Doesn't fit well into charging dock. I take the battery out and place it into the dock Lack of DTMF could be problem for amateurs A little bit fiddly, but manual is helpful

Other: Great radio. Even for the unlicensed, it makes a great reciever. Ever wanted to listen to the police radio? With this you can (provided there analog!) Best radio for the price. Very happy. 5 stars

Pros: SMA-Male adapter for an antenna on the radio. SMA-Female adapter on the antenna.

Cons: The charger doesn't really behave itself. It seems to blink red on a charged battery, but does charge batteries when they are less than half charged. I measured the power output with a Diamond Antenna brand SX-1000 SWR & Power Meter. Low power is 0.25 watts PEP. Medium power is 1.5 watts PEP. High power is 4.0 watts PEP. All these were measured at 146.280 MHz.

Other: This antenna is much better that I thought, but not a hand-calibrated item for US Hams. The radio puts out less power than is claimed. It's a rugged, useful handy-talkie.

Pros: Very good radio to hamradio use. The radio have a lot of functions, so you can use this for all hamradio works. The frecuency range is very good. The power for this radio is perfectly for the use of hamradio. The batery duration is longer than anothers radio thay I know.

Cons: You need the manual for the advanced configuration, because on the keybord don't show the functon' explication. I miss the frecuency range for aireplane, but is Ok

Other: I recommend totally this radio.

Pros: It's much better than a simple walkie talkie I could listen many public services (it works from 136 to 174 mhz!)

Cons: Doesn't work with DTMF codes, but ok, it's a walkie talkie not an amateur radio

Other: A very good radio to listen many frequencies e use as a powerfull walkie talkie in outdoors.
