  • Darn bright for the price

Pros: Really bright for such a small light. 3W is about right - almost as bright as my 5W Xenon headlight. Blinking mode is VERY attention-getting - outstanding for a be seen light. Usable in bright/continuous mode as a to see light on unlit streets. WAY better than slightly cheaper lights with ~1W emitters and multi-LED lights.

Cons: 1) Mounting bracket - to unmount, have to unscrew all the way; if you then ride without screwing it in, bye-bye screw. Light stays in fairly well without the screw, but can slide out on very bumpy roads. This is the only reason I don't give it 5 stars on everything. It will fit, with persuasion, into the cheapo pop-in/out bracket sold here and I may try that.
    2) If riding with just this as a headlight in blink mode, the stroboscopic effect can be a bit disconcerting. It's that bright.
    3) Zooming - I can't get mine to zoom at all, despite the description and the graphic on the light. But I'm fine with it as it is.

Other: For the price, this is a great light. I got it as a 2nd/backup headlight, but find myself using it as my only headlight about 1/2 the time. Just be careful with the stupid tightening screw holding it in.

Pros: This is a very good flashlight or bike light. On the bike it gets you noticed in flood mode and if you need the throw then just wind the lens out for a small but very bright spot. This is very tiny but powerfull and is regulated so should have a good run time. I have used for about 1hr on the same rechargable aaa batts and light is still excellent. If you half hold in the switch for 5 seconds a 'flashing' mode is selected. Half depress it on off to return to normal mode.

Cons: The number of winds from spot to flood is about 10, not as suggested a half turn or so... this does stop it altering by accident though.. so not a big problem. The light is held onto the bike via thumb screws which is good for the user, but also good for anyone who would like to steal them.

Other: A very nice flashlight, and for the casual rider, a very good bike light.

Pros: - Good amount of light, you can actually *see* with this in the dark so it's not just a "hey, notice me!" -type light. ;) - Sturdy construction; metal, no plastic - handles rain - good battery life - adjustable

Cons: - light adjustment takes a while as you screw the head from one extreme to the other and the area in between is not really that usable (if it's not screwed to the extreme, it's tends to roll about loosely)

Other: I was looking for a good bike light and I found one. This doubles as a good, small flashlight that fits in your pocket too. I'm satisfied.

  • Nice light, but must replace the 0-ring of the bat

    Pros: -Powerfull
-not heating that much for what i could see... ( i used it 4 hours on very basic alkalines before the light began to decrease slowly)
    -Light.
    -quite good bike attachment.

Cons: the unpacking experience is awfull!!
Mine had a very little o-ring on the switch, and this very little detail make the whole light useless!! ( i mean the switch was "crazy" , screwed correctly, no light, half screwed the light was "jumping" and mode changed on each movements or little vibrations.
Finally i changed the o-ring, but it took me 3 days to realize it was the problem, and 3 others days to find an o-ring! ( you also can use teflon, or some water rings, etc.. if you are in the hurry, the problem is just to screw the switch a few turns before the oem ring stops it...
    That is not fun!!
The lense in plastic will probably take some wear signs with years.
Execpt that, i would say it is a good light...
The led make some blue-ish white light, but not sure if it is "warm" or "cold" or "clear" as advertised... anyway it IS powerfull, when it is well sealed and screwed...

Other: Well, that is a very powerfull light, so if you need that kind of torch, this one is expensive, but i think the li-ion, li-po batts together with the cree led, is a smart combo...
This is also light ( i believe 50-80g) you can have 2 on a bike and looks like a super big motorcycle! ( but gues what, with a little less light :p )

  • Great flashlight

posted by Tankystas on 05:18:07 G1T 03/01/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: *Great quality for price* - all metal construction, O-rings on all screw-down parts, quality finish - powder coating doesn't show any signs of wear after rolling about for a month in a pocket and being used on a daily base.
*Bright light* - with rechargeable AAA NiMh batteries it's bright enough to temporarily blind someone if pointed directly to the face at close range. It's bright enough with these, and when you need more - just throw in the lithium, would be even brighter with those.
*ADJUSTABLE FOCUS* - when focused(screwed out to max), the beam is good for 30 meters/100 feet. When screwed in, the width of the beam in close proximity is somewhat near 5 meters/15 feet wide. Thus the flashlight is extremely versatile.
*Flexible power source* - You can find AAA batteries just about anywhere. You can use rechargeable ones. You can use compatible Lithium batteries.
*3 light modes* You get max light, which will come in handy when you need the light desperately, med light, which is good for power saving and the flashlight will mostly be used in this mode, because it gives decent amount of light without being to harsh on batteries, and a strobe mode, which is great for use on bicycle, as blinking light is far more easier to notice for the vehicle drivers. It's simply spot-on. 1 mode would not be as versatile, and 5 or more modes simply suck - who in the world would EVER be using them all ?

Cons: *The head of the flashlight*, used to adjust focus wobbles. This occurs when you turn the head anywhere between min and max zoom. When it's either at min or max - it's fine and sturdy, as the thread apparently keeps the head locked and prevents wobbling in these positions. Leave it adjusted for anything in between these two - and the head wobbles.
*The mounting bracket* for mounting light on a bicycle is cheap. It'll take some effort to mount the bracket on the standard bar. The fixation of the flashlight in the bracket itself is a lame design from the looks of it. I don't know how it'll perform (as it's winter now, not quite the time of the year to ride bicycle around), but it just seems cheap and unreliable from the looks of it.
*The on/off/mode change button*. It's doing it all - you press it all the way down and release to turn the thing on, you press it all the way down and release to turn it off. Half-way press of the button will change the mode. Thats not bad. BUT the lighting mode will also !automatically! rotate if you turn the flashlight off and then turn it back on at once. If you turn it off and let it be for a minute or so, it'll come back on in the same mode it was turned off in, when you turn it on. I'm not against multiple-mode flashlights, I simply don't like it changing the mode when I turn it off and back on.

Other: It's a perfect pocket-sized all-around flashlight. Whether you're on a bicycle or on foot, it can always rest in your pocket and come out to do it's work when required. Generally this flashlight is a bargain, for those who only look at items like this below 10 bucks I can only add you get what you pay for. The flashlight this bright and of such build quality would cost you AT LEAST double in the retail store, and I won't event compare it's price to the fancy brands...
Some features are annoying, but nothing that would really deter from buying and using it. I'll definitely be getting at least one more of these as a gift, it's a perfect cheap present. And the best thing about it - it doesn't look nor feel cheap.

Pros: Definitely of better quality than those pathetic cree lights sold locally in my country. It is definitely cheaper than those powerful cree lights sold here too. This powerful torch brightens up the entire path right infront of me, however I believe this product is unneccessary in Singapore where the roads are all totally litted, so this product is actually overkill as a bike light for use locally!
But but but! it works very well as a torch light, and would do if you need a bike light for occasional riding. A 2 in 1 combo.

Cons: The 3xAAA batteries drains out pretty quickly, the packaging that comes with it was flimsy and broken, but never mind as long as it works fine.

Other: Dont buy any branded lights anymore, they are either cheap and not bright, or bright but very expensive. Ditch you maglite and cateyes
Cree lights are extremely affordable, considering for its price to brightness ratio.

    Pros: Small, but seem sturdy.
I actually like using it "pistol style" with the bike mount on. Having said that it's really easy to take out anyway. this is good if you are leaving the bike and don't want the light stolen.
The bike mount is logical and easy to use.
Nice and bright. I compared it to another torch I have and thought it was no good...then realised I had it on low.
The focus is extremely handy and still bright enough at full width. The focusing mechanism is smooth, and cannot be wound right off the light.
Light spread is nice and even.

Cons: Slight blue tint, which is a con if you are worried about the colour, but a pro because the eye sees it as brighter.
The programme system is a bit naff in my opinion. Having to cycle through if I turn on after getting the one I want is a bit of a pain. Only three stages, but you have to click twice for each stage.
The ring of light at the edges can be distracting.
I bought 6! One gave some trouble with not working with the battery cap tight. I used some water repellent and that fixed it.

Other: Well worth the money. I bought 6 and they are all working, and very consistent in output and appearance.

  • Fine - with a caveat

posted by streetbystreet on 14:38:37 G1T 19/01/2010 certificated customer

Pros: 3 modes [low, high, strobe]. Good build quality - tough without being hefty. All-metal body. Reasonably bright, and you can change the focus from flood to throw by rotating the head. Works with 3XAAA holder [included]; rechargeable LSD NiMH AAAs work well. Also works with rechargeable Li-ion 17500/18500 [I've used both]. 17500/18500 are brighter than AAA, but rattle around inside, even with rubber washers. The mount was tight and easy to use. All in all, fine quality.

Cons: IMPORTANT PROBLEM: light would change between modes every time it was bumped or jarred in any way. On a bike, this includes going over a pot hole, random bumps in the road, gravel, going off a kerb, etc. Brightness was OK, but not great with 3XAAA. Much better with 18500, but then the rattling was worse, and the automatic mode-cycling gets worse. Loose contacts between AAA holder and rear of light.

Other: Functions best with magnets at the negative end of the AAA-holder. A good light for the money, but count on a little bit of fiddling to make it work correctly.

Pros: Ideal as a back up light cheap and light and it comes with a fairly sturdy mount. I use it on flood setting when cycling through unlit woodland paths, helps to illuminate overhanging branches and anything nasty ahead.

Cons: When rotating to throw position the lens housing appears to become loose, it does not seem to affect the beam but is unnerving. On full throw the output is not that brilliant but on flood is fine. Sometimes when jumping kerbs or going over sharp bumps the light switches mode.

Other: Cannot beat it for the price, provides a good backup light, battery life seems fine.

Pros: I use two of these lights mounted on my bike helmet add a sku25149 on my handle bars. This combonation gives better light and better cornering sight that some lights at $400.00 for less than half the price.

Cons: The light does not come with helmet mounts. I solved this by using a broom hamdle held to the helmet with zip ties. Works great and it is awsome that you can focus the beams for the tight single track areas.

Other: Buy them - you will not be happy you did.
