Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Handy little key chain that you can use when hiking to find your way back. It's also just a nice gadget thats you may not use to much, but you get for t he sole purpose of just having one.
Cons: Is not used often at all, something you get just to be prepared.
Other: If your at all interested worth the buy because of it's low price.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: It can fit in your pocket.
Cons: It can get lost easily.
Other: It is metal so it does not break easily.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Made of metal, hard to break. Fits well in a pocket. Very handy when you're out geocaching and don't want to keep switching between compass mode and your navigator.
Cons: A bit easy to lose.
Other: Good compass for the money.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: It's a compass! It is made of metal so it won't break.
Cons: The keychain piece is a cheap loose metal that easily broke off.
Other: Considering that it is a dollar fifty it is very worth getting for the times you think you might get lost and need your direction. Don't plan on having it on your keychain in your pocket without it breaking but the compass itself won't be damaged!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: It works well and is a very usable compass. Markings are clear and easy to read. Needle is well suspended and turns freely. About the size of a silver dolar and 1/4" thick. It would be a great first compass for kids.
Cons: The case does not appear to be very robust. I would say it is more a pocket compass, because on a key ring I would not expect it to survive long.
Other: A good compass at a great price.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Directions are accurate - Very light
Cons: - Finition isn't very good
- looks cheap (but hey, it is!)
Other: If you need a small cheap compass, you should buy it
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Small and cheap. Easy to read in the daytime, and actually points to north. Unlike most other cheap compasses this one doesn't use liquid, which can leak out and make the compass useless if something were to happen to it.
Cons: The lanyard ring feels very breakable, and the compass would be very hard to read in the dark without a flashlight.
Other: If you want a very cheap compass this is your best bet.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Needle usually points north, cheap, not super cheap looking.
Cons: Suspended needle jiggles a lot, and doesn't return to pointing north very strongly. I'd be afraid to trust my life with this one. Probably best to play with as a toy. Thin casing seems like it could be easily crushed or broken.
Other: Too bad all toys aren't this cheap.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - More or less does the job given that the compass is stationary when in use - Light and small - easy to carry around - Cheap!
Cons: - Needle takes a long time to set to North as it jiggles and flutuates a lot; Hard to use while holding it
- Needle is not exactly leveled
- Overall build quality is just average; Easy to get little dents and scratches on the back (already see some upon delivery)
Other: Can't ask for more from a cheap compass that does what it's supposed to do.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Inexpensive. Metal on two of the three surfaces, probably less prone to crushing and chipping than an all-plastic compass.
Cons: Needle sensitive to movement, takes a while to settle down.
Needle not level so compass needs to be tilted at an angle for maximum clearance.
Other: I think compasses are generally fluid filled for a reason.
