Pros: simple swap over drop in unit. all i needed to do to make this fit my surefire 6P was to remove the big spring and it dropped in no problems.opperates on 6 volts no problems at all and has a good hot spot and lots of spill. comparing this to my yukons built in illuminator the hot spot is not quite as bright the built in but with it in use my first gen yukon it gives an image far exceeding my cybereye gen2+ and a useable beam up to 100 meters. with my gen 2+ unit its easly double that. it out performs a genuine surefire with a milspec filter as an infrared light source!!!!!!
Cons: the spill is huge some might call this a con but i like it. the only con is the red glow from the unit it must be about 850 nm so not so good for covert or tactical
Other: if your looking for a ir light source and dont mind a bit of red glow go for it its a good strong light source and the 6P format makes it compatable with a huge range of torches
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Powerful infrared source for gen 0-4 and
CMOS camera's.
Easy to replace the white light led or xenon in the sunfire-flashlight.
Nice price.
Cons: Beam is not narrow (can become better after modding)
Uses lots of energy spilled into heat
Very visuable for the human eye, will scare wildlife with much better IR sense
than humans.
These problems can be helped, see below.
Other: Very nice first step to get good IR gear
for nightvision and -camera
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Seems to put out quite a bit of IR light, my guess is around the 800nm point, as alot of light gets through an 800nm wideband IR filter. You can definitely see the red glow from it, although at a distance it would be quite dificult to see that with the naked eye.
Worked fine for me at 6v, haven't tried with RCR123s yet.
Cons: Inefficient driver, should make sure the module has some heatsinking to keep it cool.
Other: While I haven't had a chance to test it with any nightvision gear, most cameras seem to pick up the IR light quite well.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very cool light! It throws IR light a pretty good distance allowing my video camera to have a much greater night shot distance.
Cons: I havent tried prolonged use, but in the little time that I got to mess around with it, the unit seemed to heat up quite a bit in my Surefire 6P. I didnt have this problem with other LED modules that I installed on the very same host.
The light isnt totally infrared. There is a VERY small amount of red light that is emitted making this module a bad choice for tactical/stealth use.
Other: In my opinion, this is a really great buy! I am very happy with it and am eager to play around with it more!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Good build quality, heavy enough to help with the heat management. Nice mirror finish on the reflector, fits well into suitable flashlights. Does not emit much of visible light. Works with 6volts too.
Cons: Current consumption is lower than reported. Could be brighter, not very bright on 6 volts, must test with higher voltages. Quite expensive, but this may be due to small production volumes, this is not exactly a mass product :D
Other: Could be brighter, but all in all a good product.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Works well in intended areas.
Good for short to medium ranges, in fact it may be too bright in short ranges!
Cons: Runs HOT !
Mine stopped working after 3 x 5 minute uses
which was disappointing
Other: Mine didn't work long enough to give a thorough review
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: It gives off more light than the 12-led flashlight, and this fits to all wf-501 series lights. Voltage range allows me to use this in the WF-501D light with 2x 18650, giving me a nice amount of runtime.
Cons: Some smudges and a tiny scratch at the reflector, but nothing that bad.
Other: Quite good, buy if you need a cheap IR-dropin for some reason.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: I put this bulb in my surefire G2 to use my infrared rifle scope. It works very well and gives a much wider beam pattern than my old lamp which is on the rifle scope.
I ordered earlier, a similar lamp from Sweden, which cost about four times as much. I have compared these two lamps and can only conclude that it is exactly the same!
Cons: I can not think of anything that is negative to this article.
Other: By this lamp if you want a good and sheap IR lamp!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Easy drop-in for any P60 body, my UltraFire L2 didnt require the outer spring to be removed. Very high output, worked well with low end webcam's and some mobile phones. Comes with a smooth relector
Cons: Not the greatest build quality, after a couple uses, one of the three emitters fail to light up. Also this emitter runs quite hot, so prolonged use will probably burn it out without proper thermal protection.
Other: Good to mess around with, probably not so good for actual use reliability wise.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: This is an excellent product for its price. I dropped it into my WF-502B torch and it worked fantastically. Coupled with my Sony Camcorder I can now see in the dark!!! 'It does what it says on the tin'!! Obviously it is not as bright as an infrared illuminator but for this price its fantastic. This is much better IMHO than the infrared filters which you add to torches.
Cons: none that I can see.
Other: If you are after an infrared module for night vision, this is the best for the price.
