  • A very useful LiPo charger: iMAX B6

    posted by klacirtg on 16:43:59 G5T 16/05/2010 certificated customer

    Pros: Very nice, massive built. The LCD can be seen even in daylight. Stable rubber legs. Many varieties of charging cables. A clear, understandable manual with good photos. One must read this for several times to learn all the functions and become friendly with the large menus.

    Cons: I had to wait almost one month for the charger (think becauste the volcano). The AC adaptors input plug is US standard so in Europe is important to buy a Flat to Round Power Plug Convertor. Audio signals are rather loud, it seems to me cannot be set softer...

    Other: This microcomputed charger with a 5 amper AC adaptor is "best buy" for the money.

    Pros: - very good build quality: no wobbles, fairly well placed heatsink pads
    - nice temperature level: due to radiator ribs on the body it's able to stay OK even it's been working for 72 hours non-stop charging and dischargind batteries; body temperature right now is 46C, my room indor temperature avarage is 29C
    - good measurement: it's not perfect and I can detect some deviation in numbers shown by the charger and my multimeter, but those are nothing to worry about, it's about 1% and original B6 has same problem; it's way more accurate then most of the b6_clone_chargers I've used and tested before

    Cons: - it's not an original charger. :( though, you don't have to pay 2xPRICE
    - fanless design: if this charger had a fan that would easily drain up to 20W due to radiator

    Other: I would highly recomend it to anyone who needs a smart charger but don't want to spend 2 times more for a brand name

    Pros: Beatiful charger, great blue and white display. come whit power supply 5A.

    Cons: A big Surprise... when I turn on the charger everithing seems ok, but whem I put my multimeter (It's a professional FLUKE) in paralel, I can see a big diference in voltage... In the charger station (for example) 3.52Vdc and the battery effetive 3.72Vdc. I take other multimeter (other FLUKE), and the difference of 200mVdc again present. Remember, battery of LiIon, LiPo, LiFe, is very dangerous put 200mv of difference.

    Other: Always be carrefull!
    Sorry by the english.
    Regards

    Pros: Half the price of the rest of the clones on the market.
    Does a great job of charging my:
    LiPos, 3.7V and 7.4V
    SLAs, 6V and 12V
    Nicads and NiMH cells.
    You can use an SLA in the field to power the charger while it is charging LOPos.
    The menu is pretty easy to follow.

    Cons: Internal soldering is pretty average.
    The body is not used as a heat-sink.

    Other: Great value for money for charging all of your RC batteries, especiallif you don't have access to AC power.

    - not hard to use
    - many different charging options and different accum types include
    - many different plugs (tamya, t-plug and others)
    - silent
    - sound signal, when charge is complete

    Cons: No thermal element, ACs plug is not for russian socket, AC is not in box, no cooler.

    Other: Great buy for it's price! Will see how long it will work with different accum.

  • Suspect these not are not Genuine iMax Chargers !!

    posted by SFCNZL on 09:17:33 G9T 07/09/2010 certificated customer

    Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Mine works well, +- 0.01V Balancing, so far Ive charged 150mah 1S FP, 2250mah 3S Rhinos, and 2500mah 2S Hyperion Batteries. The USB works with the approprate adaptor cable and software. The Power adaptor supplied has the std IEC (computer) connector, and works with 110V to 240V, so its easy to find the right cable for New Zealand.

    Cons: Be warned these Do NOT have the Genuine iMax Holographic Label, suggesting these are the knock off iMax Chargers. The Temperture sensor supplied does not work, not sure if this is just mine or not.

    Other: Im a little uneasy using a cheap copy, knowing support/waranty may be hard to get if something does go wrong, but it is cheap.

    Pros: - very well built, has a solid aluminum case;
    - has no fan, it is silent;
    - supports wide range of battery types;
    - can be used for measuring capacity of different batteries;
    - temperature sensor included and works as expected;
    - can be connected to PC for collecting, comparing and analysing data;
    - has a calibration mode.

    Cons: - cheap and low precision resistors used;
    - included connectors have a high resistance and measured voltages may be wrong.

    Other: feature rich charger/analyser with reasonable price but not too high precision

    Pros: I started getting into Li-ion batteries for all my hobbies, so I needed a good Li-ion charger. The Dynam Supermate 4 which I bought earlier is good, but it's too limited - it only does 1-4 Li-ion cells, and current is fixed to 1 amp. This IMAX B6 is WAY more versatile. It does all the common chemstries - NiCD, NiMH, Li-ion, Li-poly, LiFePO4, and even lead acid. You can also adjust the charge voltage to a non-standard setting, for example charge to 4.1V instead of 4.2V so as to extend your cycle life. In addition to charge and discharge functions, it also does cycling for Ni-XX (Ni-xx benefit from cycling), and balance and storage for Li-xx. Storage is for when you want to partially discharge your Li-ion batteries for the off-season, so they do not degrade in capacity as much while sitting around. You can program up to five settings in memory, so switching between batteries is fairly easy. This one comes with all the needed accessories, such as the AC power supply, and various plugs to connect to different connectors. There is also a temperature sensor for Ni-xx batteries. I haven't used it yet, but it's good to have as a safety backup for charging Ni-xx cells. This is one of the more expensive items I've bought on DX, so I was a bit worried that it wouldn't work well based on some of the user complaints in the discussions. However, all my fears were unfounded. It is charging all channels to 4.2V +-10mV. The display is working perfectly. The AC adapter does get warm, but doesn't go into meltdown (however, I haven't really stressed it to the full 60W)

    Cons: There is no fan, so it gets hot if discharging at a high wattage. I use a small computer fan pointed at it to keep it cool during high wattage discharges. This comes with an AC adapter, which does get warm if used at full power. Make sure it gets good cooling if you are charging at close to the full 60 watts. The beeps are LOUD. You can disable them in the menus, but I wish you could just quiet them down a little. Maybe I can open it up and cover the speaker/buzzer with some tape to tame the volume. Unlike the Dynam Supermate 4, this charger does not offer completely independent charging channels. The balance connector is for balancing only, and the charge leads still needs to be connected. So you can't plug two different packs at different times. It's no deal breaker, however.

    Other: This is a terrific charger for practically all your hobby charging needs. I'm about ready to throw out all my other chargers. It's that good.

    Pros: This charger is exacly what the description says. It charges and balances lipo batteries very well, I charged ballanced my 11.1v 2300 MaH 20c Firefox lipo. Each cell ended up at 4.2 v, besides one that was 4.19v. I checked these readings with a volt meter. So it does very accuratly balance lipos. I also charged a PAS 7.4v 1200 MaH 20c lipo and it charged each cell to 4.2v, but the other cell was 4.17v. Its a lower quality lipo. Mine did come with a temp sensor.

    Cons: a few pixles on the LED screen were dead on arrival

    Other: Great all around cheap charger for LIPO batteries!
