KG-689 Dual Channel Standby 5W 10KM Walkie Talkie with ANI and VOX (400~471MHz)

Pros: Build quality is rather good. The manual is easy to understand, and programming channels etc. isn't hard. Has a built-in 88-108MHz WFM receiver which is quite sensitive and has a decent sound quality. DTMF tones work well, not too silent like in some of the other radios apparently. Can listen to two frequencies at the same time and split operation is possible.

Cons: At least the one I got wasn't the E model so it didn't have 1750Hz toneburst, so you need to whistle to get repeaters open.

Other: If you intend to work a lot of repeaters needing 1750Hz tone burst, I'd consider something else. Otherwise it seems like a good device.

Pros: The station is made in a professional form factor. Qualitative assembly without gaps and play. Intuitive menu. Very comfortable grip. Very convenient functions, the display of the current charging the batteries when you turn on the radio.

Cons: small inconsistency of some menu items with accompanying instructions.

Other: A very decent device for their money. Well suited for Airsoft. Possibility of private channels of communication between different units and groups. Also want to mention an excellent opportunity to establish direct communication channel with a particular subscriber using the ANI-codes. This is very convenient and useful function for the unit commanders in the transmission of information "is not for everyone."
