Pros: This does two things for your Rebel XTi kit lens- protects it and shades light. It shades light rather well- it will stop the bright flare that you have with the kit lens. Now people will jump up and down and they the kit lens stinks, and it does. In the hands of some one who doesn't know how to use it. This hood will certainly help you out.
Cons: If you are clumsy, this isn't going to help with protecting the front element. That's not a design flaw- it's how it is. Don't get me wrong- there is nothing wrong with this hood.
Other: The hood is reversable, if needed. But it's so small I don't see the need for that.

Pros: It's a bayonet type that is especially made to fit the Canon lens. Fits perfectly onto my EFS 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens. The plastic seems solid yet flexible enough that it will survive being accidentally stepped on. It can be mounted backwards for situations where you do not need a lens hood.
Cons: It's the ordinary round type. Other than that no real cons.
Other: The bottom line is if you're getting lens flare, i.e. circles of bright light coming from strong sources in your peripheral view then this item is for you. It's a lot cheaper than the official Canon branded accessory.

Pros: - Excellent build quality
- Bayonnet style attachment is a perfect fit for my Canon EF-S lens... securly snaps into place
- Looks and functions just like the original Canon lens hood
- Made from high quality plastic. Feels solid and should be able to take the regular wear and tear of photography
- Can be attached to lens in reverse for convenient storage.
Cons: - None that I can think of.
Other: Just buy it. It's exactly the same as Canon's lens hood, but for a much more realistic price. Excellent product. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: - Fits easily to my EF-S 18-55 IS (450D Kit objective)
- Never visible in the image frame, i.e. it has the correct dimensions for 18 mm.
- Not large enough to ever get in the way. Always on the objective.
- Softens any bump to the objective, since it is not completely hard plastic.
- Looks good
-
Cons: - Only blocks light coming in at very wide angle, but this is more a limitation of the objective since the front turns on focus and therefore the hood has to be symmetric (unlike e.g. SKU 10916).
- Slightly tight to take on or off. Be careful not to break your objective's focus.
Other: Recommended buy. Removes some light, gives some protection against bumps and is really not in the way (given that it fits your bag).

Pros: - Bought for canon xsi 18-55 mm IS lens and fits decently well
- Great replacement or buy if you don't have a hood already
- doesn't look too bad compared to real ones
- not visible when shooting without flash
Cons: - it will be visible when you use the internal flash at 18 MM range and above 35ish mm. Basically when your lens is extended phyiscally
- a little tough to put on at first, be sure to put your ring on MF to reduce risk of damaging motor.
Other: buy it to protect your lens from abuse. Take it off when you use flash.

Pros: It is like the original one but the letters are different.
It works very well but there is bigger hoods than this but this one is very easy
The plastic looks nice.
Its easy to put it on the camera. It fits great on my Canon 18-55. (I will upload a picture)
For spaniards/Para españoles
Es como el original pero las letras del lateral son direrentes
Hay parasoles mas grandes que este, pero este es muy comodo.
El plastico parece normalito.
Es facil de montar en la camara y se ajusta muy bien a mi 18-55 (subire una foto)
Cons: I dont sea any cons for this price and for this plastic item.
Other: A product line for canon cameras will be great. And it is not very easy to find this product in DX.
Please write better titles and descriptions.

Pros: - Cheap
- Does what it should
Cons: - Still a bit pricey for a simple plastic ring but in the end much cheaper than the one from canon.
Other: If you don't have one: Simply buy it. You won't get it cheaper elsewhere.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Get rid of annoying shadows and flares. Light and easy to use - put it on, shoot, take it of, reverse it, put it on and put lenses easily in the bag.
Cons: Could be longer but if you really need longer - by other model.
Other: It's cheap and reliable - a must have in your camera bag.

Pros: A great value for a lens hood. Same size as the official Canon EW-60C. Attaches exact same method via a bayonet mount to the lens. Cost is about $25 less then that of the Canon version.
Cons: none
Other: An excellent price for a lens hood. Fits my Canon EF-s 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS lens. Would definitely recommend to friends.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: This is a stubby little thing, maybe 2-3cm deep - but it's the same size as the "Official" Canon hood, and does the exact same job for a lot less money
offers a bit of protection, and gives you something to grab to do the manual focus on the 18-55mm lens..
You know what though, it also looks cool. Perhaps that's the best reason to get it.
Cons: - none really
Other: Not sure what else to say about a $4 hood - other than it does what it's supposed to do
