Magnesium Fire Starter Survival Tool with Fire Sparkle

Pros: * it came nicely packaged
* its a solid brick, it will not break easily.
* it works.
* this will probably last you a lifetime, which is great as it does not have a use by date.
* the package comes with some nice survival tips on how best to use the item.

Cons: * the package is aimed at markets that use imperial measurements more than likely people in north america as it mentions fahrenheit and "the size of a quarter."

Other: i bought this as a peice of mind for general outdoor activities, going skiing, fishing and hiking. i usually carry a lighter with me, but if the gsas runs out or the lighter gets wet, then this could become a life saving tool.

Pros: Its a much bigger block than i expected, and so should last a very long time, the sparking insert produced a decent shower of sparks, and the magnesium was easily scraped off with the supplied scraper / sparker or with the back of or blade (if you arent worried about the edge)of a knife or with the striker of a firesteel or similar.

Cons: The chain feels very poorly made but not a big deal as i attach items such as this with a small length of paracord.

Other: its lightweight, works well and is low cost.

Pros: lights anything comes with a shaver the spark side also works without the magnesium provides a bright light in dark areas

Cons: you need to shave a lot before you can use it it blows away quite easily (the shavings) igniting the shaving the correct way takes some practise you can't preshave the magnesium (it will react with air over time. you can store it for 2 days or more if you keep it out of the open air) big

Other: just buy it

Pros: Perfect spark, perfect magnesiium shaving, a lot of spark is produced. both chains included with fire starter and igniter look good enough to hold it together. a big pro is that it does come with 2 chains. i don't know how easy this would be to use with both things chained together.

Cons: it is a bit expensive for what I think this costs to priduce but then again I think this is the only really magnesium fire starter around DX, it gets a bit difficult to ignite the shavings with the sparks but will improve with practice

Other: it does include the green metal bar to ignite sparks wich I was not quite sure it would have as it doesn't appear on the photografs

Pros: I bought it for fun. Was quite impress when I saw it in Youtube and decided to get one but I cant find it locally. When i received this magnesium block, it was lighter than expected. The packaging looks cheap but it doesnt matter. Test on it and the "blade" attached to the magnesium block is not hard to use. scrap it with the magnesium block, and strike with the flint spark and the megnisium flakes will burn immediately! And its really hot!

Cons: It damaged my mable table... i took a alluminium foil to act as the base to collect the magnisium flakes and ignite it... the alluminium foil burned! and the marble table is now left with a burned mark!!! LOL

Other: Nice gadget for camping. the magnesium block will work even if it is wet (just make sure that the flink spark is dry)!

Pros: It works very well. shave the block into a pile and spark it and watch it burn... there really isnt much more to say apart from the obvious and what you can see from the pictures and vids. its light and compact

Cons: the scraping tool is kinda not good. seems like the flint will run out before the magnesium will. the flint appears to be glued to the magnesium block. so im wondering how long that would last if exposed to moisture and what not.

Other: a simple and effective design portable compact works very well and a great price buy 15.

Pros: -As I said in the title, it's a solid block of Magnesium. -Great for starting a fire on a camping trip -It will impress your friends :D

Cons: -The scraper is not perfect for producing sparks

Other: All in all, it is a nice thing to have in your camping bag.

Pros: Functions as intended, makes tinder lighting quick and easy. Makes starting fire in humid or wet conditions very fast and easy. Solid block of magnesium will last for years and start hundreds of fires. Good value, the same magnesium block is twice the price at outdoor and survival outlets.

Cons: The flint for sparks is a little small, could be twice as thick. It might not last as long as magnesium block.

Other: Great survival tool, good value, functions even when wet.

Pros: + comes with a scraper so you don't have to damage/blunt your knife scraping the magnesium or generating sparks + solid block of magnesium is safe and not flammable + magnesium shavings ignite readily into a very hot fire with sparks from flint + cheaper than what you'll find in outfitters/survival shops/etc.

Cons: - magnesium bar painted over with a layer of grey/silver paint which starts flaking off after handling several times - too bulky for the keychain

Other: Buy it. Unhook the scraper thingy from its chain and put it on the same chain as the magnesium bar. Keep it in your survival bag/bug-out bag/backpack/camping bag and be glad you have it with you should you ever need it.

Pros: Excelente qualidade. A apresentação da embalagem é muito boa e há explicações para o uso do material. Testei assim que recebi e fiquei com uma ótima impressão, pois é fácil de usar. É uma ótima opção para se adquirir e deixar junto do equipamento quando se faz uma trilha, para eventuais emergências. Muito barato.

Cons: Na verdade nenhum. Somente acabei substituindo as duas correntinhas por uma retinida pois achei que diminuiria a possibilidade de perder a lâmina.

Other: Já usei material similar há muitos anos e queria comprar outras peças de reposição (tanto para mim como para destinar para uso em instrução em um grupo de escoteiros). No Brasil havia pago um valor quase dez vezes superior. Para quem gosta de fazer trilhas é um item muito útil para deixar na mochila para emergências. Valeu cada centavo e pretendo comprar outros.
