Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Compact, simple design
Cons: LED light is useless.
Other: Handy little scope for an unbeatable price!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Gives very good magnification 80x
Works well as a skin microscope to check edges of mole
Built in LED can be a bit iffy, but works well and is bright.
The white led illuminates the field quite evenly.
Scale markings good for measurement
Cons: need to dismantle the entire led torch section to insert / change the batteries.
I worry about the lifespan of the plastic and the possibility of it breaking while changing batteries.
Hopefully with the LED it won't happen so often
Other: You wouldn't regret buying this.

Pros: - Great price.
- Very fun to play with.
- Uses standard size batteries.
- The LED is very useful. I can even use the microscope in the dark.
- WIth the scale markings, you can even measure the stuff you are seeing. I don't expect it to be too accurate, however.
Cons: - It looks very easy to break it. I wouldn't expect it to survive too long if I hand it to a kid.
- The battery compartment is very tight and doesn't have springs on the contact points. It is very hard to remove one of the batteries from inside it. When I changed to a different brand of battery, I had to unbend the battery contact point so it actually touches the back of my new batteries.
Other: I've bought this item and I've got a 100x one instead of 80x. There were some problems with the supplier for this item on the past, so I would check if it is the right magnification immediately when receiving it.

Pros: Excelent optics. Very easy to use. As I see it,it's also well built. I just took it off the bag, easily put two AA batteries in (they last for ever), put it on my jeans and after a second of focusing I was seeing fibers of a few microns width. Then I took a bug and put it on the table, then put the objective over the bug (it lets ligth get in and prevents the bug from escaping), and watches amazing details of his legs and junctions. I can't believe I paid 11 dollars, this is worth 50.
Cons: Really, really nothing. When I was a child I got a black microscope, x400, that was very expensive and had to prepare samples on a piece of glass before watching. With this one you just put the microscope over the object and the led will do the lighting. Amazing.
Other: Get it! Your child will see you playing with it and will want in.

Pros: - Very nice build quality (except for batery plastic cap).
- led is very usefull... I can use this microscope at night/dark.
- 80x zoom is more than I expected... with can be good or bad.
Cons: as I said, the quality of the piece that you need to remove to change the batery. i looks somehow weak.
- 80x is more than I expected... so I didn´t give it to my bro in his birthday... I actually sold to a "dermatologist", i don´t know if this is the right spelling (the medic who cares about your skins' healthy)
Other: if you like to be different buy this gadget and be happy showing to ur friends.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: + light and portable
+ long run time on a pair of AA batteries
+ decent optics and magnification
+ increases interest of kids in nature and things around them
Cons: - doesn't stand stable without holding it
- fixed magnification doesn't allow you to zoom or switch to the most appropriate magnification level
Other: The contact which turns on the LED wasn't working very well when I received it. Without legible documenation, it took some experimenting until I knew how to turn it on.
Luckily the switch works allright now.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Works quite well and provides a lot of fun. Very easy to see the details of fibers in your clothes. The light is very effective and comes on when you pull the barrels apart and turns off when they are together. So you can't accidentally put it in the case with the light still on. Come with a case.
Cons: A lower magnification would be more useful. Mine is actually 100x and DX said they were shipping these as they had had problem with the 80x.
The scale is not aligned with the edge of the scope, which can be inconvenient.
Other: 80x would be better, 60x probably more useful! Reasonable value and useful though. Would buy again.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Good magnification
Relatively easy to use
Scale could be useful
AA batteries
Can be used as emergency flashlight
Cons: Weak light
100X probably too much
"1 DIV/0.02mm" in large letters in view
Other: Unless you need the scale markings get SKU 1328 instead. This unit does the job but 1328 seems to do everything better.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: This is a compact tool and works very effectively as a microscope.
The microscope consists of two parts: the viewing tube (scope) and the light. There is the scale marking on the field of view, which makes it very convenient. It is down to 0.02 mm in increments which is very precise.
The white LED is extremely bright and turns on automatically when you flip out the scope.
There's also the calibration knob so you can increase the focus of the image.
It truly magnifies by a factor of 100. Really nice.
Cons: If you're clumsy, you might accidentally flip the sections apart and turn on the LED, thus wasting batteries.
The image is projected upside-down. If DX could possibly fix this, it'd be really cool.
The batteries can get quite difficult to remove. Once it's in, it tends to get stuck in the tube; some force is required to remove dead batteries. Take care not to break the microscope while you're at it.
Other: Definitely a good purchase. I would like to see one that's adjustable, but for now I'm quite content. So yeah. Buy it!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very good for checking soldering quality on a PCB and verifying SMD components. The bult in scale also useful for measuring distances and the white LED gives enough light for clear image.
Cons: There is no real cons. It just shows the image upside-down, so its a bit confusing to move area of interest into view. (of course if you don't mind the scale is upside-down you can turn the magnifier for normally oriented image)
Other: I recommend for everyone who is working with SMD components.
