  • Great as gift for Canon photographer

posted by Alexiszp on 04:08:38 G9T 02/09/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It multipurpose and can be used as cup for cold and hot drinking’s, ashtray in cafe (good idea! But must be fixed ) pen holder or something else. It has a steel interior and as I think it safer to drink hot tea from it then from plastic one. It has carrying pouch which have a plastic carabin (clip) on it. It is similar to original lens (same size and form) and you can joke on your friend – photographer.

Cons: As I think there are many versions of Canon Cup and this is one of the simpliest. The switches (IS and AF) are NOT switchable as on other versions. Rings (zoom and focus) are from rubber and not fixed, they can rotate. The cup has a little smell, but I think what it is normal for plastic thins to smell. As you can see on second photo cup has a seam on it. ( I upload my photos but they are not approved as at this time). One of mine have a little defect on window with focusing distance and painting on another was as ‘handmade’

    Other: good as gift

  • Absolutely amazing!

Pros: Extremely close to the real lens, only the matte-black shiny finish is a little off of the real lens but does not alter it in any way Stainless steel interior DEFINITELY worth the extra 5$ to me to make me have peace of mind about drinking hot beverages from it

Cons: Lid can be a bit hard to get on tight

Other: Excellent cup, I was overjoyed when I received mine and immediately placed an order for a second as a gift to my sister. Can't wait until I get to show it off to coworkers and family :) I just hope I don't leave it in my car one day and have someone break my window to steal my "lens" :p

  • Awesome replica! Great conversation starter

Pros: Great conversation starter. I use this at work and it's a great way to find out who else in the office is into photography. The cup seems to be actual size of the real lens although I don't have this lens in particular. The details are great and it looks very real although the plastic is somewhat shiny compared to the real lens which is painted black metal. The focus and zoom rings are made of rubber and feel like the real adjustment rings. The focus distance window looks real too and adds a perfect touch.

Cons: I think some water gets in between the metal cup and the plastic lens if you submerge the whole lens cup in the sink to wash. Just make sure you drain it properly by sitting it upside down.
It's probably a little expensive for a cup but cheaper than what they used to sell for elsewhere.

Other: Makes a terrific gift for any buddying photographer or even better for the professionals!

  • Totally cool, very realistic

Pros: Looks almost exactly like the real thing! I borrowed the real lens and took side-by-side comparison pictures. I will post these pictures later. Unless you look closely within 3 feet or 1 meter, you will not be able to tell which is which. The lens hood (mug cover/cap) uses the same twist and lock mechanism as the real thing.

Cons: The stainless steel seems a little cheap, hopefully it really is stainless steal. It did pass the magnet test. For those that don't know, a magnet should not stick to stainless steel. In any case, the metal is really thin for the price of this mug. The hood/lid is a little difficult to remove sometime, due to a rubber sheet/flap they lined the underside of the lid with. I suppose this is a good thing, to provide a tighter seal, and help prevent leakage. However, the mug does leak despite the rubber flap. Best to keep it upright.

Other: A little expensive for a not that great a quality mug, but you really are not looking for get a great coffee mug are you?

Pros: Really looks like the original EF 28-105 lens Is heavy, not sure if same as original lens, but heavier than my real EF 28-80mm F/4-5.6. The metal interior is very good quality The lid can keep liquids inside with a nice seal, not perfect, but will not spill more than few drops if you hold it upside-down The painted parts are good quality The zoom and focus rings are rubber. A bit loose but nice look and feel The focus window looks nice The AF/MF button and IS On/Off button looks nice, but don't move. The carring pouch is very good

Cons: The rear "cap" is part of the lens itself, can't be deatached, and also it have no bayonet under it. I know some lens mugs have the bayonet and can be "attached" to a real camera. The "hood" can't be removed from the "cap". Its one piece and act as a lid. Although the cap closing mechanism looks like a real hood bayonet, its different. The buttons don't move. The plastic is more shiny than a real lens and have a different texture too, but to look from a distance that can't be noticed Because the metal, it makes my coffee cold too fast, so I decided to only drink water or cold beverage on it A bit more expensive than I would wish.

Other: If you don't mind to pay this price for a mug, you will sure like it!

Pros: This looks just like the real Canon lenses, complete with a carry bag identical to the ones supplied with the real ones.
I got one for Fathers' Day, Dad hadn't seen a lens like that in years and thought it was great.

Cons: Mine came without a lens hood / lid, and the box had obviously been opened because the product wasn't seated correctly between the various bits of cardboard packaging. It's a pity about that, because it would have added to the realism.
The text, particularly on the buttons, isn't painted on overly straight. Other than that, the build quality seems ok.

    Other: They're great.

Pros: Very awesome item! Size is almost the same as original lens. It's made of plastic but it's not that fragile, actually it's sits very well over the table even with many pens and other itens inside of this.

Cons: I don't think this would be suitable as a mug, since after washing water under the rubberized pieces would cause problems. Also, the rear "cap" is part of the lens itself and can't be unattached, and also it have no bayonet under it. I know some lens mugs have the bayonet and can be "attached" to a real camera.

Other: Buy it before it becomes unavailable!

  • Tazza a forma di lente di buona qualità.

posted by andbad on 03:15:17 G12T 14/12/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Famous cup-shaped lens, namely the 24-105 f / 4 L IS well-known brand in Japan. The quality is good but not excellent, also varies from sample to sample. The lens hood and cap are integrated. The interior is made of metal also of sufficient quality. The written and the details are very similar to the original, deceive even the most expert from a distance

Cons: The cap is not easy to place, do not seem to have a large estate. As mentioned by others, the base is a bit 'small, but it should not cause too much instability.

Other: A must-have gadget, although I would cap a safer place.

Pros: -I own the real 24-105mm lens myself, so I can compair the two of them.
It's an awesome replica, except for one thing; the signature red line on the lens didn't have the same color as the real one. The one of the replica is more orange instead of red. But that's not really a big deal, you could fool every photographer with it.
-Even the box looks like it contains a real canon lens. My mom thought I bought myself a lens when the package came!
-It's a great gift for every photographer.

Cons: -The cap doesn't really has a function.
-Except for the orange line, it's perfect!

    Other: It's great, buy it!

Pros: - It looks like the real lens - Good cup for all kinds of things - Great to fool people - Handy as a nice ashtray - Pretty strong build

Cons: The lid was kinda hard to put on and to keep on. If you drop it with the lid on it will fall off but not break or anything so you can put it back on it.

Other: A collectors item for photographers or just anyone who loves a nice lenscup :P
