ND-100 GPS USB Dongle for Mini Laptop (Work with Street & Trips)
- The ND-100 is a compact and portable device, which allows you to carry a GPS receiver for use on your laptop whenever you travel
- The ND-100 requires no battery or cables, only your favorite NMEA compliant navigation software is all that’s needed to turn a laptop into a powerful navigation system
- Bring GPS to your netbook and mini Laptop with this USB GPS Dongle, Plug and Drive!
- By using your laptop its perfect if you want to use sat nav in a caravan, truck or even the car. Your netbook will have a larger screen than most sat nav making your drive a lot safer and easier to use
- Works with Windows, Mac and Linux O/S notebooks/laptops/netbooks/UMPCs. Also works with netbooks like the Asus Eee PC, Asus and Medion netbooks plus more!
- USB GPS Dongle receivers provide standard data for mapping software to use and convert to coordinates. Data from the ND-100 will work well with most software on the market today
- The ND-100 is WAAS/EGNOS capable. With your sat nav software this will give you accurate door to door navigation.
- The GPS requires an open, clear view of the sky. Buildings, covered parking areas, tunnels and dense foliage can cause the GPS receiver to be unable to get a location fix. If you are parked in a covered parking lot or near a tall building, it is recommended that you drive away until you have a clear view of the sky before using the ND-100. You may need to give the GPS a few minutes to find or get a fix at its location.
- The Satellite Navigation software can be used on a Linux system if you uses a Windows API for Linux, see www.winehq.org. You may have to compile a kernel to get this working with Linux which is only advised for advance users.

Pros: Very compact, works just fine even indoor (close to a window). I'm using it plugged in to my asus eeepc as a car board GPS with google maps as software.

Cons: I need to use the usb cable that comes along with the dongle to get better reception.

Other: It worths the price and it is really useful.

Pros: -It absolutely appears to be genuine GlobalSat material, -NO HEAT AT ALL!!!!!I DROVE ALL THE WAS FROM VICTORVILLE, CA,USA (for those who want to check distance.) ALL THE WAY TO LAS VEGAS, NV, USA. AND THERE WAS BARELY ANY HEAT AT ALL TO THE TOUCH NOT EVEN WARM REALLY. -CD included with drivers and a test utility -Does not feel flimsy at all, the build quality is great and the weight is also good I feel it lighter than my Duracell AA battery (I don't have an actual scale lol

Cons: In order to receive a good signal, you need to connect the extension cable included, WHEN I WAS ON THE TRUCK WITH THE POWER INVERTER CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER I NEEDED AN EXTRA 2-3FT LONG USB EXTENSION DUE TO INTERFERENCE FROM THE DEVICE, ONCE CONNECTED TO THE EXTENSION CABLES, I SET IT RIGHT ON TOP OF MY LAPTOP AND THE RECEPTION WAS PERFECT. No true GPS software included (but I already knew this before bought since it was stated, i wish that it was included though.)

Other: If you need a GPS device for a computer this is a great way to go as it is Compact. you can integrate this into a UMPC such as an EEE Pc as a DIY project just make sure to put an Extra extension cable on the device when placing inside the PC

Pros: Very good and fulfill the its purpose. Easy to install (windows vista and 7 with no problem). Got the navigator software to work with it without any problem.

Cons: It does not have a gps map program with it. Although one can use Google earth or streets, I found Navigator MUCH much much better then the others. Other then that, no cons.

Other: I've been using for a while now in a regular laptop. The small net-books are perfect for it.

  • Works well as GPS source for netbook chart plotter

posted by olewsaa on 06:42:14 G4T 13/04/2010 certificated customer

Pros: Small and easy to use. I use it with a eee netbook running Ubuntu as a Marine chart plotter. It find a fix after only a short while, some minutes if turned off for some time. Works well will gpsd driver under Linux.

Cons: Want to be vertical in order to receive signal, hence it need an adapter or a USB extension cable to place it vertically. It is not waterproof so it need to reside indoors.

Other: Well suited as GPS for netbook based Marine Chart Plotter based on the opencpn software.

  • Excellent GPS USB for Netbook Swiss-Army-Knifery

Pros: Awesome little GPS dongle for a netbook.
-Compatible with MS Streets and Trips (I picked up a copy of 2007 for $10 CAD)
    -Works?
    -Blue function light!
    -Cheap!

Cons: -Needs to be 'set' first by basically taking the unit to a field first before it'll start tracking quickly.
-Will often show that in MS S&T that you're driving off the road if your GPS loses track (see below)
-Will often lose track if you take the GPS dongle away from a window in the car and will not work in basements. (The S&T still works, just jerks around a bunch more and won't give as accurate directions)

Other: Pretty good for a netbook GPS unit. I can't complain for the price I paid overall for the entire thing. Just have to tape it down on the dash or something. I'll also have to add if this dongle does in fact work with the Chinese Apad I also got from DX.

  • Superb!!!

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Fast. Easy to use in windows. Is small. What else can i say? It's perfect for what it's made for.

Cons: The software. It came with a very simple software that gives your coordinates. For use as city navigator you will need a software like Garmin Mobile PC or iGo for PC. You can use it with Google Earth, but you will need a 3G modem. Be careful to use your net/notebook in the car because the hard disk may stop working after some bumps. Consider use a SSD. It's harder to work in linux but works!

Other: A GPS for less than 30 bucks! Works perfect in windows an linux (a little bit harder). If you already have a mobile computer an want to use it as a navigator this must be yours.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Small.
    Good built quality.
Works well after managing to get software right.

Cons: No map software comes with it.
Most programs can't recognize it, even google earth will work ounly using earth-bridge with it.
CD with drivers was damaged, but original ND-100 drivers from the internet worked well.

Other: Great device to make your netbook a gps unit. I use it for street car races and encounters and it works great. Still you will need a second person near the pc to get the most out of it.

Pros: I bought this gps 2 years ago and i have to say it works perfectly. I needed for mi travel to Japan and I used it with my netbook. It works with Google Earth and all kind of gps navigation software I have tested till now. It also works on Ubuntu (GNU/Linux) ad there's no need for drivers. Just plug and play! I didn't get lost in Japan with this little gps.

Cons: No cons at all for me.

Other: Better than expected. It was my first shop in DX and I was a little bit scared, but now i'm a DX fan!
