  • Not that useful

    posted by Jeffsey500 on 08:35:46 G8T 10/08/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Its cheap and easy to find. The ring makes it easy to keep on a finger while wiring.

Cons: Its rot really that useful. Its only use is to press wire into keystone (or similar) jacks. However, it seems to always get caught on the jacks I have.

Other: Usually if you buy jacks in retail, it would come with some sort of a press in tool. If not, just press really hard on the lock tab or cover. But it is convenient that you can easily keep it with you.

  • Great tool for the hobbyist

    posted by MS3FGX on 11:08:49 G12T 11/12/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Impressive build quality Excellent stripper Unbeatable value

Cons: A little larger than I expected; punchdown tool not much better than the ones that come with keystone jacks.

Other: While the strippers were great, the punchdown tool is not a whole lot better than the disposable ones you will get when you buy a keystone jack. Of course, this is really not for professional use in the first place; and is better suited for the hobbyist or emergency repair kit, so I can't knock it too hard.

If you are planning a simple wiring project, pick up this three pack instead of putting $20+ down on a tool you really don't need.

  • Excellent value

posted by DrKlahn on 00:43:52 G2T 05/02/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: These tools are excellent value for the money. Push down on the lock, snap it onto the cable, and spin it round a couple times. It doesn't cut entirely through the cable jacket, so the inner conductors aren't nicked. Bend the cable, and snap! the jacket parts cleanly at the cut.

Cons: Can't think of any, really.

Other: Excellent value for the price.

Pros: - Great size, fits in every pocket - Good build quality, hard plastic, but flexible enough - Sharp knife, cuts even the bigger coax cables - Easy to use, great even for kids! - Nice color ;)

Cons: - Non yet, but maybee i'll break one soner or later :D But for this price that's no problem

Other: Just buy some for this price, always comes in handy.

The only thing that is not so nice is the 500 character limit :D

  • Light weight yet tough and a good value

posted by Otakop on 12:00:27 G4T 19/04/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very sharp cable strippers that are also light weight and pocket sized. The built in punch tool is also a nice add.

Cons: Plastic has some sharp edged where the moulding marks are. Easily fixed with some sand paper. Wire gauge indications along the cutting edge would be nice.

Other: Simple in design and tough in construction. Does the job very nicely so you can't go wrong with these! I bough them to have spares since mine are always getting lifted by my fellow techs.

  • cheap and useful!

posted by syuusuke on 22:41:56 G7T 28/07/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - very cheap, under 2 dollars for 3?? come on, now that's cheap.
    - handy to keep in your tool box.
    - can't cut yourself, very stupid proof.
    - great gift for those system admin days.

Cons: - a wire gauge indicator on the slots would be nice. Sometimes i'm guessing which slot i'm suppose to use to cut certain gauge wires.
    - it could weigh a little bit more but i'm sure that would drive up it's price. Right now it feels a bit light when you try to cut wires. this is only a very small knack of mine.

Other: Great gift to give for those geeky guys you may know. It's very plasticy but it works!

Pros: Unobtrusive size, can tuck anywhere.
    Protected blade
Cuts to perfect depth every time

Cons: Boring yellow color blends in with all the Test-Um tools and stuff in my bag. (I couldn't think of any other cons!)

Other: The same quality as the big box stores, but at something like a quarter the price. Indispensable.

Pros: These are GREAT for tossing into your kit bag, along with whatever other misc bits you need in day-to-day computer repair stuff.
I prefer using one of these, as opposed to my friends $30 punch tool. Cost is great too, always point and laugh at the $5 each price at retail stores.

Cons: So far, I haven't had to use the stripper part enough to really know if I'm cutting it to the correct depth or not, but that's not really a big deal. It's better to cut it too shallow then too deep. You can always flex it a couple times, and it's usually enough to pop the cable shielding loose.

    Other: BUY EM!
