Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Quick and convenient power tester. LEDs quickly pinpoint wire faults at a glance. Supports all ATX v2.2 connectors. Energizes the PSU when connected to 20/24pin.
Cons: Molex and SATA power connectors are quite deep inside the unit. You may have trouble removing a molex connector, and if it has clips you will have to open the casing to get it back out.
Could have used a toggle switch for the 20/24pin pwr in case immediate powerup is not desired.
Other: Invaluable tool for quick troubleshooting of power supplies.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Very well made. Looks solid, tough, and has a nice rubber finish.
Easy to use -
Plug in your PSU, then plug in the main 20/24 connector to the tester. Plug in the other individual connectors one at a time to test them. Oh, and the unit beeps when it is first plugged up.
Cons: As other poster said, the molex connectors can be hard to remove if you plug them all the way in. The workaround is simply to not plug them all the way, but just enough to test the connector.
Other: For the price, this is a super nice tester that works very well
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Nice product easy to use.
The text about wich light have to be on for each type of plug can be very usefull.
Cons: The sata and the HDD plug are very deep in de box. The HDD plug can easy be stuck in the device. As in earlier reviews don't put the HDD plug very deep in the plug of the device.
Other: Nice little machine for a low price. But I don't know the effectness of the device.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: + Great way to quickly tell if a power supply has failed.
+ Easy to use, and the instructions are written right on the unit.
Cons: - SATA and molex connectors are too far inside the device. This makes plugs difficult or impossible to remove depending on the type of molex connector.
- No tolerance specified - how do we know how much voltage is enough to give a green light.
Other: Seems to do its job fairly well. Even if the power supply tests OK, I would use a multimeter to confirm voltages, however.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: This is a fast way to see if the power supply is the problem. It's Small, so you can take it with you for a job in the field.Instruction are printed on the box itself so you can't loose it. Easy to understand and very easy to use.
Cons: No information on the speq and precision.
Some connectors hard to disconnect .
Other: For the price it's a very good tool to have in the toolbox. Can save lot of time to figure out where exactly is the problem. No need to check all wires with a multimeter or to connect another power supply each time just to be sure the olde one is working or not.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Great little unit that is small enough to carry with you and instructions are printed right on the unit. Easy way to see if power supply is the issue or not. Unit beeps when it is powered up.
Cons: The problem is the SATA and molex connectors are placed well inside the device. This makes plugs difficult or impossible to remove depending on the type of molex connector. Maybe try to connect an adapter to lengthen it a little more.
Other: If you need one buy it very useful tool to have.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - It is cheap
- Quick way to check a possible source of problems
- Lots of connectors
Cons: - Since there is no information provided of the tollerances it is hard to know if every thing works for sure (ie at what levels does the +12v light turn on/off)
- The tolerances are wider than the ATX spec, i don't know exactly how much, but it has reported fault PSU:s (measured with a multimeter) as OK
- No load testing, just the idle voltage, when a PSU begins to fail it is usually first noticeable when it is under load.
- ATX connector not compatible with all alignments of the little lock to keep it in place.
Other: Despite its shortcomings it is well worth the prize. I would not use it to assert that a PSU is healthy but it is useful to see if it is obviously broken.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Works fine to see if it turns on and all rails are putting out something.
Cons: simple tester sometimes connectors are tough to get out. you must test accessory cables separate as there is only one readout for them.
Other: Good value considering its limitations. I just wanted something to tell if the power supply is totally dead and this does it.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Great handy little tool will tell me if any power rails are completly missing on a PSU
Cons: Have taken device apart to inspect inner workings, This device does not provide any voltage tolerance or a dummy load.
Other: For the price I paid this is a fantastic addition to my toolkit. Can tell you if any rails are completly dead, But if you think the voltage is out you need to use a multimeter.
Its also handy to power on a workshop PSU so I can use molex to power devices externally.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: -great tool to quickly check and see if your power supply is dead or your motherboard
-quickly tells you which lines are active and which are dead
-useful for a quick check of a PSU
Cons: -connectors are sometimes tough to plug into
-plugs are very hard to remove
-this does not test if proper voltage it coming, just that the line is active or not
-does not lists the tolerances, so you dont know what the criteria is
-no load testing
Other: well worth the money.
buy it and it will pay for itself in just one use.
great addition for any toolkit
