Pros: very high powered laser! amaisingly powerful red dot that shows up very much on walls ect.. much brighter than the 5mW red key ring lasers, and will put any 1mW red street laser to shame.

Cons: the plastic wrapping was full of oil for some reason, which was a bit un-nerving, but a quick wipe had it feeling fine.

Other: a very powerful and professional lookign laser, that puts many other attempts to shame.

Pros: Cheap and lightweight. Runs on regular AAAs. It is easy to remove or adjust the collimation lens, if for some reason you want to.

Cons: Very low build quality. Button is wobbly. One of the two I ordered was covered in some clear oil.

Other: If quality isn't critical to you, but price is, go with this pointer. It isn't impressive, but it works.

  • Very nice pointer, and very bright

Pros: This is just a very cool pointer for the price--a much better deal than SKU# 774, IMO. Uses regular AAA batteries instead of those tiny button cells, so runtime should be a LOT longer. At night, this thing throws FAR... You can see the dot on houses' eaves about 200 yards away. The silver-painted finish is smooth and SEEMS durable enough.

Cons: Mine arrived SLIGHTLY out of focus... This can be adjusted by removing the forward cap (the end where the beam comes out) and carefully turning the inner retaining ring (be VERY careful not to untighten it to the point that the lens and spring pop out!). After a perfect focus is achieved, you can "set" it by putting a small drop of "goop" type adhesive near the edge of the ring (let dry before putting the end cap back on!). There's no laser radiation warning sticker on it... Going by the fact that it's brighter than the (SKU) 774 (which HAS a sticker), it clearly deserves one. There are no instructions included, nor any indication anywhere on the pointer's body, telling you which way to insert the batteries (unlike most flashlights, it's NEGATIVE side FIRST!).

Other: Overall a great pointer. Given its brightness, range and battery usage, it actually qualifies as a useful tool (for teachers, builders, decorators, etc.). At this price? There's no reason not to get one.

Pros: These match up, in performance, with standard twenty-dollar retail lasers. Good battery life. Standard AAA batteries: no CR2, N, 23A, etc. Very stable output. I don't notice mode-shifting during normal instructional use, but I wouldn't use them for long-duty-cycle service.

Cons: They won't stand up to abuse, but regular use (I teach in a medical school) is fine.

Other: They're good to have around. Toss them in various desk and junk drawers around your house and office so you'll always have one handy.

Pros: Good, bright dot, runs on triple a's instead of button cells

Cons: Kinda cheaply made, battery cover doesn't want to stay on

    Other: I'd buy it again.

  • Great product let down by poor packaging

posted by dumplingfan on 23:22:54 G11T 04/11/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Nice strong beam. Good feel in the hand. AAA batteries - finally, a rechargeable laser!

    Cons: Packaging. The lack thereof.

Of the five I bought, two weren't even in their sleeves and two more were half way out.

They arrive with scrapes that look bad and dents that make it hard to insert and remove batteries.

The battery cap threading has a poor mesh with the threading on the barrel. You need to concentrate to get the lid on right.

Other: Great lasers for a great price!

These deserve to be packed more thoughtfully.

  • Nice red laser for less...

posted by SkullOne on 03:03:18 G11T 06/11/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Good bright beam for it's kind - Very good price - Relatively sturdy - Works on AAA's - No IR problems, like with some green lasers

Cons: - Built could be a little bit better, but is okay for its price
    - Sometimes you can mistake front with back (doh!)
    - To weak to use as a star pointer, but that has to expected from a 5mW red laser

Other: For the money a very good pointer. Recommended!

  • Cheap, and can use rechargeable batteries

posted by foundit on 17:15:43 G11T 06/11/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Light weight Can use rechargeable batteries Inexpensive Most of the casing looks nice Nice bright laser

Cons: Tight fit for batteries Screw top can jam if you put it in incorrectly If you try screwing it completely shut with batteries in -> vacuum making it really difficult to even flick out the last battery

Other: Good laser if you don't screw it closed too much.
