RJ45/RJ11 Network and Telephone Cable Tester Keychain

Pros: It does the same job as sku.1261 but is smaller.
I ordered 20 of sku.1261 but since this small ne is available i ordered 10 of these.
We use them in a big datacenter to check cables and connectors. If this tool checks the cable and connectors OK, but there are still errors on the circuit I take a FLUKE to re do the test. But I only used the FLUKE 5 out of 5000 times.

Cons: First couple of times the RJ45 connector will be a pain to get out this tester.
The ON/OFF button is not of good quality.
When inserting the battery it feels like the whole tester is going to crack.

Other: As a network engineer I can tell that this little tester will find 99% of all cable problem, for the remaining 1% I use a 15.000 dollar costing FLUKE.

Pros: works like a charm, quite small, easy to use...it does the job for a small price... :-)

Cons: The whole thing looks like it's going to break if you squeeze it a bit harder....but it only looks like that...
Battery compartment might be just a little bigger because i had some trouble inserting the battery....
Power button might be placed better...if you have bigger fingers it might be harder to push because it goes really deep into the device, and it has very small diameter...

Other: If you need this, buy it....you wont regret... :-)

Pros: EN: - more important: works! - have a remote unit - small - on/off button is inside, so it will not turn on when will carry it on your pocket or your carry pouch, etc. PT: - o mais importante: funciona! - possui unidade de teste remota - é pequeno - o botao de ligar é afundado, sendo assim, evita que ele ligue sozinho durante o transporte no bolso ou qualquer lugar.

Cons: EN: - its not a keychain - too big and heavy for a keychain - battery not inclused - build qualitity is terrible - you have to insert the cables with care. - easy to put the battery but dificult to remove it PT: - muito grande para ser usado como chaveiro - nao inclui bateria - qualidade do material da carcaça é ruim. - ao introduzir os cabos, faze-lo com cuidado, o conector as vezes afunda - facil na hora de colocar a bateria mas é chato para tira-la.

Other: quebra o galho! se voce é que nem eu: precisa testar um cabo ali outra la, pode comprar q resolve o problema numa boa! cheap and works. i recommend!

Pros: - Small

- Finds broken cables
- Finds shorted cables
- with a litle modification works with shilded cables :D

Cons: - Build quality is not the best
- The 9V batery does not fit!

Other: Nice looking 'keychain'. It's a MUST have if you are working with LAN cables (or telephone cables)! With sku.33466 you can probe usb cables too! Just play with it!

Pros: Easy to use. Compact. ON/OFF switch below surface avoids unintentional battery drain. Flashing 'POWER ON LED' in the 'master unit'

Cons: One of the LEDs needed resoldering before being operational. Another of the LEDs was severely misaligned inside the housing. Plastic housing alignment very poor. Plastic housing very weak - needed repair and reinforcemnets prior to use.

Other: After resoldering and securing the cabinet, the tester is perfect and quick for novice users !

Pros: - Works
- Small!
- Tests RJ45 (UTP Ethernet) and RJ11 (Telephone) cables

Cons: - The GND LED is missing! (and paths on PCB are missing, so if you want to test STP's shield, you'll have to mess up with it for a while)
- Build quality is not very good and the detachable terminal part tends to fall apart sometimes
- I had to open the casing to align battery wire properly
- Battery connector is weak, so it bends when you try to remove it from battery

Other: Buy it if you need some aid with building small network and you are able to fix little issues.
If you are going to use this every day for some big work, you should probably invest into something more durable.

Pros: Item works as stated. If you were to get the wiring mixed up like say wire 2 and 4 on one end, then it will show that by which light sequence goes on.
Saves tons of time instead of going somewhere to plug your cable in and test for it. If you crimp to make your own cables or are fixing a cable, it does the job

Cons: Plastic housing is thin, but fine -- its not drop resistant.
Battery doesn't fit properly -- EASY FIX: You'll need a box cutter or an Exacto blade
Opening the battery compartment cover which goes down -- we'll call that direction South. You'll notice on the West, East and North sides they have a lip for the compartment cover. Trim only the NORTH lip off so its flat/smooth. Now your 9V will fit snugly in.

Other: As well, the people that complain about the quality you're welcome to purchase the item locally at 10 times the price - theres a reason why we purchase from DealExtreme.
Also this is a global economy now, 70% of the items we get are made in China or the components or the casings. Doesn't mean buying it locally will be any better quality than buying it on DE.

Pros: Small enough to take it in pocket or on belt.

Working as stated, no more - no less

Cons: This device use straightforward main LED scan of cable connections, and responding part LED show the wiring. So crossover cables need some more attention.
Battery box has to be patched by cutting small plastic edge under cover (used to support back cover) - other way the battery can't be inserted, not enough space.
The only button on top cover of device has reversed logic - pushed button turns off device :)

Other: Good deal, helps in work.

Pros: - Cheap. - It has lights. - You can split it in 2. - Nothing to envy to more expensive products. It does the same. - Great for carrying it in a tool box. Not much a keychain. - It tests RJ45 and RJ11. Great for those who work with VoIP telephones. - It has an ON/OFF button.

Cons: - The plastic feels cheap. - It's very hard to connect and disconnect the battery. I tend to disconnect it just in case I press the ON/OFF button when I've got it in my pocket.

Other: - It's cool for basic use but I wouldn't recommend it for a really professional use. It's great if you use it eventually.

Pros: works great, low price, compact. Saves tons of time instead of going somewhere to plug your cable in and test for it. If you crimp to make your own cables or are fixing a cable, it does the job

Cons: Battery hardly fit into the bay, but otherwise completely satisfied

Other: low price, compact, perfect for the construction of networks from 10 to 100 computers
