Pros: This was used to repair a bricked Seagate Hard Drive because the computer no longer recognized it due to faulty firmware. Had to do a partition regeneration using this adapter and and then reflash the hard drive firmware. This adapter did the job perfectly.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Other: Get this if you need the RS232 adapter and have a serial port on your computer. If you computer does not have a serial port then get one that has a USB connector. This helped to save my 500 GB Seagate hard drive.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Compact design. - Can be powered with a USB cable. - Works with 5V or with 3.3V. - Power, RX and TX LEDs. - Comes with a 4-pin header cable. - Pins are labelled.
Cons: Honestly, none. Maybe they could have connected the CTS and RTS pins of the RS-232 connector to the unused pins of the MAX232 and added two CTS and RTS pins on the header, but it would have been almost useless anyway. Very few devices need CTS and RTS.
Other: Works fine. Everybody who deal with electronics should have one of these adapters. Can be used for example to flash routers which have a TTL serial port on their PCB, or to connect your computer to microcontrollers, etc.

Pros: Small in size. 5V USB power inlet. Low power consumption. Header connector with leads included. RS-232 signal status LEDs available. I recommend it if you need to convert RS-232 levels to TTL and vice versa.
Cons: Only one I can think of: missing mounting holes makes it a little difficult to fix.
Other: It functions as you would expect. RS232 signal meets the spec's. Handy the 5V USB power supply inlet. Does transfer rates over 115kbps with ease. An unexpected feature is the availability of level status LEDs, what makes it much easier to analyze communication errors. Also visualizing the actual data transfer is a plus, so no extra RS-232 analyzer is required. An excellent product to buy and use.

Pros: Compact design. It can be put in action with the USB cable. Steadily works both from 5 V and with 3.3 B food RX and TX LEDs. Very much the complete set was pleasant. 4-shtyrevy cable of heading of a pin of which are marked.
Cons: Well works. All who deals with electronics, have to have at least one of these adapters. It can be used, for example, to stitch routers which have a serial port TTL on their PCB, or to connect your computer to microdispatchers, etc. For example for treatment of a fly by CC... It is completely happy with purchase. My best recommendations.
Other: surprised at the fast delivery.

Pros: It is small. It has the right connectors for connecting directly to the Raspberry pi GPIO port. The cable was a bit long to fit inside my casing, so the device is hanging next to the case. The led-indicators are nice if you like to see your device working. I'm using this to plot my solar-panel earnings on a website using a Raspberry Pi.
Cons: The 9-pin connector is female, male would be more logical. I used a gender-changers to connect.
Other: Good value for money. Buy this if you own a Raspberry Pi

Pros: Cheap and ready to use, you can even use the USB to power it. I'm using it with an Arduino NANO and was a piece of cake to start working with it. Build quality is well above other Dealextreme items.
Cons: It could have all lines tied to the MAX232, but this is not a problem in most applications. Missing mounting holes makes it a little difficult to fix.
Other: None so far

Pros: I ordered this to try to repair a bricked Seagate 7200.11 hard drive. The Internet said I needed an RS-232-to-TTL adapter and so I ordered this. The mini-USB connector is for power and USB (+5V) power worked fine with the hard disk repair. There is a +VCC pin in case 3.3V is needed. I haven't tried using that. Three lights indicate power and Rx and Tx activity.
Cons: Those who need CTS and RTS, this won't be worth your time. It only has Rx, Tx, and power. But, very few devices need CTS and RTS anyway.
Other: It's not for the general public, but if you need some TTL signals, this is a great part. I was able to revive a bricked hard drive and recover 1.3TB of files.
