  • Its useful

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This device was able to allow me to connect an ide harddrive to a sata port on my motherboard.

Cons: Errors from windows: "An error was detected on device", "Delayed Write Failed", and "The driver detected a controller error" Slower transfers than normal sata speeds

Other: It is useful for short term use. This device is not a replacement for a raid controller or external enclosure.

Pros: The case is made of thick plastic, no loose thingy's. (no noise) Comes with all cables. Status lights.

    Cons: None

Other: If you dont have any IDE connectors but you do have SATA, then this is a very good choice.

  • Only works with one device

    posted by Myself248 on 18:50:13 G3T 03/03/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Well assembled Comes with all required cables Little grips on plastic case make it easy to pull out of IDE connector.

Cons: Instructions printed in tiny white type on circuit board, behind fuzzy plastic, are very hard to read.

You can not use this device to control two SATA drives, like master/slave, from a single IDE motherboard port.

Other: It doesn't do what I thought it did, but it does what it does pretty well. For the price, I'm not bitter.

  • Works great for IDE drive - > SATA convertions

    posted by TRX_1 on 13:04:14 G4T 06/04/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Works as expected. Plugged it in and the BIOS recognized the drives automatically.

Cons: Floppy style power connector but it does have an adapter to use a standard 4 pin Molex power connector. A molex y-splitter would have been best so you could just use one power connection for both the drive and the converter. There's really no instructions but not hard to figure out.

Other: It works and it's cheaper than IDE->USB adapters.

  • Transferred files quickly from IDE drive to SATA

posted by deepdvd on 18:05:57 G4T 10/04/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Transferred files quickly from my IDE drive to my new system

Cons: It doesn't come with a SATA-power -> Molex converter, so I wasn't able to power my old drive with my new computer because the power supply didn't have any Molex power connectors.
I had to use my old computer's power supply to get it to work.

Other: Worked great for transferring files to new system, but needs to have SATA->Molex power converter included.

  • Easy to use

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy to install, just plug it to your HDD and motherboard. Works perfectly. It comes with power adapter (if you want to use an ide molex instead of a floppy molex) and SATA cable. Seems to be well constructed an durable, and the transfer rate is good.

Cons: It's a bit bulky, check the position of your HDD in the case, could be no room for the adapter.

Other: I'm very happy with this product, it's very usefull with new motherboards (with only 1 IDE port -> 2 IDE devices)

  • Works fine

posted by BVeldhuijzen on 06:55:53 G7T 18/07/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Very easy to use, as long as you have read the manual.
    - Transfer speeds are decent. I used it to attach an ide dvd-drive to a sata-port. Worked flawlessly.
    - Very low price

Cons: - Not clear which SATA port to use when used in ide-sata, or sata-ide mode. You need the manual for it. This could be better indicated on the housing.
    - It is a bit large and the powerline and sata-cable are sticking out from the device. It would be better if they were in line with the ide-connector.

Other: Very cheap, so the price can't be a hold-back. Does what it should do, so overall recommended.

  • SATA-IDE Bilateral Converter Board

posted by Sparxter on 08:04:27 G11T 03/11/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I never consulted a manual and was quickly able to figure this handy little thing out. As with the rest of a computer's internals, certain cords only plug in to certain ports so it's difficult to screw it up.

Cons: The IDE connector is actually soldered on crooked. This is strictly cosmetic and does not affect the function of the device. The mark-down on the above rating is for build quality and for labeling of items on the device.

Other: It's good to have some technical know-how (or a friend with some) if you're going to get this.

  • Excellent device

Pros: Simply just works super on all my Linux boxes. Helps keep systems cooler with the thinner cables, and allows use newer drives on older hardware and older drives on newer hardware. Even worked with a USB to SATA and USB to PATA bridge!

Cons: The connector for the PATA is a little small, and you need to be very careful connecting it to a PATA drive, as you can mis-align by one pin.

Other: Quite simply it works, and you can't beat the price. Here in the USA these are sold retail at 400% to 600% more.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: - Nice small Size
    - Does exactly what it says it does

Cons: - IDE plug, and, by extension, the entire chip in the case, wiggles too much for my liking. There's not really anything holding it in place.
    - Although the SATA connectors are easy to read on the box, the case doesn't tell you which is which.
    - I had some issues after plugging it into my computer (my CD drive wasn't being detected, and the drive wouldn't load), although I doubt it was the converter, as my computer had issues to begin with in that area. fiddling with the CD Drive hardwired settings, and now my computer runs fine.

Other: Solid product with no problems to date, and great for the price, too.
