Pros: * Convert your SATA drive to work in an IDE controller.
* Very cheap!!
* Works in my XBOX (old black model), and the file transfers seem quicker than my older drive.
* Small form factor, can be directly mounted on the back of the drive, and fits anywhere inside the xbox case.
Cons: * Seems a little flimsy, but, once in place I don't plan on moving it again.
Other: Great for xbox modding.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: -Works at ATA100/133 speeds
-Cheap
-Small
Cons: -Build quality could be a bit better
Other: I bought two of these and I wasn't disappointed at all. I tested it with SiSoft Sandra on my 500GB Seagate and 640GB WD SATA hard drives. The Seagates hd read speed on SATA was 74MB/s and with the converter was 72MB/s. The WD hd read spead on SATA was 64MB/s and with the converter was 62MB/s. The write speeds were also close to the SATA speeds. The converter is also almost the same height of a hard drive and doesn't take much room at all. The only thing I complain about was that the solder job on one of the cards was a bit shabby and the black foam spacer was missing. For less than $6 this is a good buy and I would buy it again.

Pros: Works for the purpose intended, speed seems unaffected in normal daily use. claims to be able to "break the 137GB barrier". I will be testing this on an old motherboard soon.
Cons: Not very robust when mounted on the HDD, will be OK when in the case but fragile when out of it.
Other: I have just used this to bring a machine back to life who's SATA controller had failed on the motherboard. Cost very little but saved the cost of a new HDD. Better than expected, I thought it might be slow.

Pros: Bought this device to rebuild a system after a nasty virus. With a brand new Samsung 500GB HDD.
My VIA 6421 sata controller card would not recognize my new Samsung HD502HI 500GB HDD
Looking for a budget solution to make it work I gave this card a try.
On powerup BIOS detected as 500GB.
Partioned and formatted XP posts at 465GB
Cons: It does feel a little flimsy, but for the price it works
Other: Budget solution to add sata hdd to your system.

Pros: One of the few adapters that can be used on Topfield DVR:s allowing the use of sata disk instead of the original pata (ide) disk
Cons: Ide connector´s solder side pins are very close to the disk.
Connector rear side may contact the metal casing of the disk if the cable applies pressure to the adapter.
I would recommend using some insulation between adapter and disk just in case.
Other: Very nice adapter, I warmly recommended it. Just plug it in and you even forget it is installed.

Pros: It just works. Every drive, every computer I've tried, it just works. It fits nicely into an original xbox, and lets you put a huge sata drive in to make a bad ass self contained media server. I put a 500 gig sata in as a test, and I have it loaded up with about 700 movies and everything works perfectly (just had to figure out how to format large drives in an xbox correctly).. I'm rambling because there's the 500 characters thing..
Cons: The solder points for the IDE connector could short on the drive if pushed.. Just put something between them and it's not a problem.
It's dealextreme.. of course I think it could be cheaper.. Is free too much to ask?
Other: Get this. It solves problems!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Does what it's supposed to do with no real fuss, for a nice price.
Cons: The one I received had all 40 pins on the IDE connector, so my IDE cable wouldn't fit. Usually pin 20 is missing in the male connector and obstructed in the female connector, so you can't go wrong with the orientation of the connector.
As pin 1 is not marked I had to guess the right pin to remove (the pictures here and a white printed arrow on the printed circuit board pointing towards pin 20 helped to make the correct guess).
Also the spongy spacer is missing, so short circuiting the printed circuit board against the metal of the disk drive is very likely. I've constructed an insulator from the blister.
Other: Great if you have a SATA drive and only IDE in your computer.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Works flawlessly with the 3 PC's and 4 HDD's (320GB, 500GB, 1TB, 1.5TB, all Seagate) I tried.
Really useful if you have to copy large amounts of data to ancient computers.
Fits perfectly - not too loose, not too tight.
Cons: If I recall correctly, the packaging wasn't that good, but it wasn't damaged, so it doesn't matter much.
Does not come with jumpers to select master/slave/CS
Did not work with my 2 year old Liteon DVD drive (could be the ODD's fault though)
As mentioned multiple times before, the pins/connectors could short on the HDD.
The general build quality could be much better.
Other: I just love it.
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Small, fits nicely in original Xbox casing without having to modify it at all.
No impact on transfer speeds
Cheap
Cons: Build quality not too good. PCB is bent and power connector was soldered on crooked.
Back of IDE connector could easily touch the harddrive and cause a short circuit. This can be fixed with some electrical tape.
No instructions on how to correctly jumper the board. This was solved by trial and error. (For Xbox use, move the jumper one step)
Other: Great product for a cheap price. A definite buy for original Xbox hobbyists!
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: - Saves $$$ when buying Harddisks for your xbox
- Small enough to fit inside the xbox Harddisk casing
- Configurable (master, slave, Cable Select)
Cons: - Solder points are exposed and could short if not installed properly
- Not built the best, feels like it would break with continual unplugging.
Other: Great upgrade item for original xbox. Lets you get up to a 2Terabyte HDD!
