  • Perfect to replace expensive CF cards for cheap SD

    posted by barium123 on 16:42:08 G4T 17/04/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It's a bit thicker then normal CF cards, but it fits perfectly in my Canon EOS 350D (digital rebel) and my card-reader. Now I can buy cheap and easy-to-get SD cards instead of the more expensive CF cards

Cons: Might not fit in all devices (approx 2mm thicker then normal CF cards)

Other: If it fits in your camera, this is a must have!! Great device, absolute value for money.

Pros: I bought it to experiment with SOlid State Disks using the variety of CF to SATA and CF to IDE adapters available, but CF cards are too expensive so I bought this to convert the many SD cards I already have into CF cards and it works well.
The other use I found was when I had a card reader that would not read my SDHC cards. If the card reader had a CF slot, putting the SDHC into the SD to CF adapter and inserting theat into the reader let me read the cards!
Given the cost of SDHC cards (low) vs the cost of CF cards (high) this can save a lot of money in the long run.

Cons: Like a previous user said, a bit thicker but I had no places that would not accept it yet. Could be cheaper!

Other: A useful tool inthe box for many reasons.

  • Don't work with my Nikon D300

posted by Scabounet on 17:26:37 G7T 27/07/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It's working really fine with SD and SDHC on my card reader (which does not support SDHC). It's work fine even if I use a Micro-SDHC with a SD adapter.

Cons: As I indicated on the title, it doesn't work with my DSLR, a NIKON D300.
The DSLR indicates an access error.
It was especially for this I have purchased this item. So I'm very disapointed.

Other: At least, I can use it to read SDHC of my friends thanks to it.
I have not tested MMC card, but I think I will never use them.

Pros: Saves a lot of money on flash cards if you use CF and SD in different devices.
Even works with 4Gb SD cards (which are slightly off standard), but not all of them, so experiment if possible before buying. Anyway, just buy SDHC (which is supported) and forget about this.

Cons: Could be a little faster. Eats 20 to 30 percent of raw card performance, so be careful if you need maximum speed.
If you need to swap cards really quickly (like sports photography), you'd better buy regular CF card. Alternatively, buy a bigger SD card to not to change it altogether.

Other: Nice product, but with limited usefulness. Basically, you need to have a large stock of SD cards and then suddenly buy a device supporting CF cards only (like I did). Otherwise, consider buying normal CF card.

  • ...with 5DmkII and Eye-Fi card

posted by leonardlow on 00:45:31 G10T 17/10/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I've been using mine to hack an Eye-Fi wireless card into my Canon EOS 5D MkII!
It works... as long as you ONLY shoot in JPG - if you shoot RAW or RAW+JPG the camera has a fit. :(
Does what it says it does for other SD and SDHC cards.

Cons: It's a wide CF card! Much wider than modern CF memory cards. However, it fits into the memory bay of the 5D MkII. If your device only has space for a modern CD memory card, this will be too wide to go into your device.

Other: If you're like me and you upgraded your camera only to find you couldn't use your massive collection of old SD cards, this is a good way of getting a new lease of life into your old memory cards. :)

  • Works well with Olympus E-300

    posted by diesel604 on 20:40:49 G1T 04/01/2010 certificated customer

Pros: + Enables you to use inexpensive SDHC cards with your DSLR
+ Worked fine without any issues with my Olympus DSLR
    + Simple easy to use
    + Price is pretty good

Cons: - Cannot remove SD Card from CF adapter if in camera (need to remove adapter to remove SD CARD)

Other: Good value for a CF-SDHC Adapter. Now I can use the more common SD/SDHC cards in my camera
    Overall very happy with purchase

  • Great product, works fine

    posted by stanleyc2003 on 16:58:22 G1T 18/01/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Tried several different brand SD 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB Micro SD with adapters and works fine. Also working with 4GB HC MicroSD w/adapter without problem with Olympus E-520 DSLR. Note: first it said there was an error reading with the card inside the camera but reformatted the card and worked like a charm. Now I can invest my money in buying less expensive SD and SDHC instead of Compact Flash. !!

Cons: Can't think of any at this moment. But if the price is lower a bit, that would be fantastic.

Other: I highly recommend this product without any questions. Great product

  • Nice adapter, but abit thicker than a real CF card

posted by hungtruong on 09:30:24 G5T 21/05/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Works with my Canon 350D, 5D mark II, card reader, and can use every SD cards i tried, even some microSD with microSD to SD adapter.
Great if you have some SD lying around and want to use them with CF-only camera.

Cons: Thicker than the original about 3mm, make it quite hard to put in the card reader. No problem with my cameras but not sure about other cameras.
Slow down the RAW shooting time about 20%, even more if you use microSD.

Other: The price is abit high, it could be lower.

  • Great product but a little slow to write.

posted by Quarn on 01:57:36 G5T 23/05/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy to use. Insert SD card, insert into camera.
I now have 16GB SD card instead of 8GB CF
    in my camera.
    At ISO100 and RAW+L-jpg I have 965 shots!
If I switched to just jpeg that would be thousands of images (but RAW is too useful)

Cons: It seems from my tests to write at about 3mb/sec so it can take a few seconds to write an image to the card.
This is not a big issue unless you shoot burst modes that exceeds the camera buffer (like sport) as camera will wait until buffer clears before shooting again.
However if you a composed shooter, who likes to frame/focus/adjust, then it's not an issue.

Other: I am very pleased with my only minor complaint being the write speed but rarely will be an issue.

  • Good value, but not very speedy

    posted by ea19gle on 20:34:22 G6T 18/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It works great with all the SD cards I've tried and at this point SD cards are definitely cheaper that CF.

Cons: It's a CF type II form factor so it's thicker than most CF you will buy. So before you buy double check that your devices can use type 2 in addition to type 1.
The write speed is a little slow. When I used it on my Canon Rebel XTi I noticed a definite speed difference with multiple photos especially shoot RAW images. The card would fill up quicker after 3-4 images I'd have to wait atleast 6 seconds before shooting another one.

Other: It's a good value, but not very useful for data intensive writing like sports photography.
