  • Great little educational toy

    posted by jubal1 on 02:33:34 G6T 13/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It's cheap, it's simple to set up (Once you've built the solar engine you simply reuse it again and again for each model) It's fun and educational

Cons: The plastic parts are pretty cheap and easy to break. We broke one of the propellers within minutes.
Some parts need to be trimmed before they can be properly used, you will need a craft knife to do this.
The solar panel needs direct sunlight to work properly, we had to go outside to make it work

Other: If you have kids 5-12 get them this.

  • Not a bad little kit

    posted by max929 on 08:06:35 G7T 27/07/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a decent kit if you want a fun little weekend project, but don't expect to go green with it.

Cons: Where this kit really fails is the tiny solar panel. It requires way too much light to work. It pretty much needs to be outside in the noon sun to work at all. I was hoping it could work in the window, but it does not.

Other: For a little over 6 bucks this is a good deal. Just don't expect anything other than an interesting project. I would pay $12-$15 dollars for the same kit with a decent sized solar panel.

  • Nice toy, 6 tooys to choose.

posted by Atredies on 06:54:05 G10T 27/10/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It's 6 toys to choose in one package. No special tools, skills or soldering required. All needed parts are already in the box. Nice educational toy for children. Clear instructions for assembly.

Cons: The solar cell is very weak and only in direct strong sunlight have enough power to drive the gear. Most of the toys are just for show. I mean that the fan will not make any wind, and the car will go n the sun, but will not make a good toy.

Other: For such low price it's quite a fun to assemble. Some education of how things work for the child. Overall it's a very nice toy and I'm happy with this purchase.

Pros: It is a nice educational kit for children, very easy to use, does not require many skills. Also, it can be very fun to watch. It has a very clear instructions.

Cons: The box where all parts are kept came almost completely destroyed. It does not protect all those parts who are inside the box. I bought it as a present for my 4 years old cousin, and had to give it without the box.

Other: Overall I'm happy that I bought this educational kit, because I saw a smile in my cousins face when I gave this kit to him.

  • What would you expect for so little money?

posted by dometmp on 17:57:18 G1T 14/01/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Just as others wrote, it's quite simple and fun to build. A good way to introduce kids to model building. You won't be sorry if anything goes wrong because it's so cheap.

Cons: The box of this kit is made of very thin cardboard that does not really protect the contents. I received my kits squeezed in a one-size-smaller bubble-wrap envelope. Originally intended as a present, I had to repack it before I could give it. The solar panel is weak. It needs either full sunshine, or (being winter now here) a strong halogen desktop lamp.

    Other: Fun & cheap.

  • Amusing toy

posted by sainer on 01:11:13 G2T 24/02/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: For a long time it would be desirable to get, in the childhood, the designer which could work on solar batteries as the usual were discharged quickly, and to buy new was promlev for me. But having seen later 15 years dream of the childhood on this site, at once it wanted to get it. In the complete set there was a small solar battery and even less motor which on my surprise also worked). As a whole all gathered easily and without problems. Having indulged a little the designer to the nephew, it just 10 years, as well as me then has decided to present...

Cons: Quality of assemblage certainly not all that well, but quite good.

Other: For this money very much even a good gift for the child (boy).
P/s My daughter too liked this designer, especially the doggie.

  • Very fun solar toy kit, bad packing.

posted by flyzapper on 17:36:09 G4T 05/04/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a very fun solar toy kit that can be used in many ways. I love the revolving airplane and the boat. I actually used the boat in my swimming pool, and the toy went all they way across with no leaks. There are also extra wires and other parts in case the small ones break.

Cons: The build quality is a little cheap. Some of the plastic pieces are thin and fragile. As other people have also said, the packaging is horrible. Mine came soaking completely wet with the cardboard packaging torn and crushed. I could have never given this as a gift.

Other: I enjoy playing with this solar toy. I just wish the packaging was better.
