  • very good low-budget alternative for Fenix MC11

posted by Hobbyfotograaf on 12:45:27 G11T 22/11/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Bright on a nimh, even brigher on lithium-ion.
Comes with clip and lanyard, tailcap is magnetic, it sticks to any iron surface (can be very handy).
Build quality is very good for this price.

Cons: Don't really like the high/mid/strobe, it should have been high/mid/low (if there was a strobe, it should be in de hidden modes like on the Fenix).
Hotspot is too tight to use it as a worklight.

Other: This is a very good alternative for the more expensive Fenix MC11.
It is bright, even on a standard AA battery, and really very bright on a lithium-ion battery. Just don't leave it on high for a long time, after 5 minutes i switched it off because it became very hot, on a nimh AA it was not getting hot after 10 minuters.
The magnetic tailcap is a very nice feature, that the Fenix does not have.
But the Fenix will be better in wet conditions because it is waterproof and submursible.
The TIR (plastic) optics give a very tight hotspot, good to light thing up in a distance, but not so good for a worklight, the Fenix has a wider beam wich is better as worklight.
It seem to be very good, certainly in this price-range and compared to the Fenix MC11, but the Fenix is just a little better (but it does not have the nice magnetic tailcap...).

  • super bright and well made

    posted by acktick111 on 17:33:37 G11T 28/11/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very, very bright on 14500. Gets pretty warm after 10 min on high. Nice beam pattern with focused spot and fair amount of spill. Lights up treetops well at 100m. Magnetic base is handy. Swivel head mechanism seems adequate for now.

Cons: Wire hanger on base is pretty cheap, removed mine immeadeately after opening the package, seems kind of redundant with the wrist lanyard attachment loop and pocket clip. LED is not perfectly centered, but it is not off by much. The top button is a bit difficult to engage to turn on or off, but its not horrible. Plastic lens is a bit crappy, but at this price who cares?

Other: Great buy, I wish I would have ordered 10 more to give away as gifts. Decent build quality, super bright, functional and cheap. Thumbs up!

  • Bright for AA

posted by riocopa on 06:07:31 G11T 30/11/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a great little AA flashlight for the price. It is now my favorite after about 10 or more flashlights from DX. The rest of mine use 18650 or CR123 batteries, but this still seems bright to me with a regular energizer AA in it. But what I like best of all is how functional it is. With the combination of having a latch, clip and strap on it, it is useful in a variety of ways. And the fact the the head tilts up/down increases it's utility. Then the fact that the base is magnetized, so you stick to a metal plate/wall, etc, and adjust where the light shines leaving both hands free is AWESOME. It makes me wonder why all our flashlights don't have magnetized bases.

Cons: The only con I have for it is no mode memory, so each time I turn it on it is on the next mode. Good thing there is only 3 modes.

Other: For the price I don't think this can be beat with all the features it has. Plus the fact that you can use regular batteries in it is a plus for alot of people.

  • Solid angle light

posted by StupendousMan on 17:07:44 G12T 02/12/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very ergonomical in extended use thanks to the angled design. Bright. I'd guess the 310lm number to be reasonably close, after comparing to my other DX lights. I only tried it with a 14500 battery. Tablestands, but this thing has a powerful magnet at the base, so it'll stay on a lot of things, such as inside of computer cases and car engine bays and you can aim the beam with the head which tilts with a nice clicking sound. The lanyard hole at the top of the light is bigger than usual, and you can just squeeze a 550 paracord string through it.

Cons: The switch is small and recessed in the top, which makes it awkward to push with gloves on. The green material at the handle actually feels slippery.

Other: There is a lot to like about angle lights. This is a good one with a good price.

  • Its waterproof

posted by ecotack on 05:58:40 G12T 08/12/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It clips nicely into my jackets top pocket leaving my hands free.
    It's Waterproof.
Head can be angled so I'm not blinding others when I'm walking the dogs on unlit roads.
    It glows in the dark.
It has a strong magnetic base.

Cons: Can't take it apart easily (only a con if you like fiddling with things).
Could glow in the dark better.
    Clip could be grip better.

Other: If you don't like head torches and have a breast pocket on your jacket, then this is ideal. With the magnetic base and adjustable head it is also great for working on cars at night.

  • Nice torch

posted by FenixAmp on 07:17:20 G1T 24/01/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Small but very bright especially with 14500 battery
multi-angle adjustable head with clip, and lanyard
lound and firm, click sound when changing modes
not waterproof but water resistant, rings were lubricated
can be attached to belt, molle, headband and bike

Cons: Is not a floody but spot light as not enough spill from beam
3rd mode is strobe which I hate but good for cyclist
Becomes very hot on 1st mode especially with 14500 at 5minutes+
With any type of battery there is an alarming buzzing sound regardless of modes but I have not had any problems so far....

Other: I bought it as the price was so low! One could buy 4 of these to 1 Fenix MC10. Why the extreme stated output? Even a newbie would not believe the provided Lumens given for this product? Apart from the cons I am going to buy more for friends due to price and quality of product.

Pros: Very solid build. Everything is aligned and tight. Good finish. Battery fits snug (AA akaline) Small & light weight. Glows in the dark (slightly) Magnetic tail cap three different ways to 'mount' it: lanyard, clip and hanger (good for camping)

Cons: Not even close to 310 lumens, probably 90ish. about half as bright as my fenix L1D. comes in a crumpled generic white box, not good if you want to gift it.

Other: i would defiantly buy more if needed. what else to say....hmm...hmm...

  • Awesome! One of the best in class AA / NI-MH or Lithium 14,500.

posted by pepitogrito on 10:29:37 G4T 27/04/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: 1 -. Perfect adjustable head angle. 2 -. Perfect belt clip, hook and magnet strong. 3 - Very ergonomic and lightweight. 4 -. Lots of light with AA, and a lot more with LITHIUM, almost double in power, flood and launch ... So impressive with lithium. Very good with AA (Ni-MH). Flood a lot, and throw a lot too. 5 -. AA Autonomy (NI-MH. 2.500), High 1h.35 minutes (approx) - At low 4h.50 minutes. (approx). 6 -. The phosphorescent body is impressive. "Load it" less than 1 minute with nearby light and the brightness is pretty spectacular, and lasts all night! 7 - It can be transported in many ways.

Cons: 1 -. No have a superflatlower. 2 -. Mode emits a low humming noise, little or nothing is annoying, but if the lantern rests on a metal surface, the buzz is appreciable. (Resonance with the metal surface). In high mode, the hum disappears.

Other: For me a great flashlight!!! I am quite sure that if the purchase will not be disappointed. On the contrary, want to carry around, especially if you camping, mountain, hiking, or fix mechanical things you usually when you need to have both hands free. Sorry! translate by Google!
