  • Good torch, but it rattles a little...

posted by thekanester on 07:44:10 G8T 23/08/2007 certificated customer

Pros: Good bright halogen bulb, especially when using rechargable 3.6v batteries. Quite solid case. Good reflector, with solid umbra - no ringing.

Cons: Works better with protected CR123s, since they're a bit longer. The extra length seems to hold the batteries in place better, stopping them from losing contact with the torch head. Rattles with non-protected batteries and can sometimes flicker when torch is shaken. This is bad.

Other: Not the cheapest torch, and I have to say that I love LEDs better than halogen, but this is definitely a great torch. The rattle is off-putting, and I'm mod it a little bit to remove this. I'm happy with it, and I'd recommend it to anyone else.

  • Great light for the price!

Pros: Very bright, cheap, looks nice, light and small. Very bright. I would say somewhere around 150 lumens.

Cons: Unprotected CR123A's rattle a little bit inside this light. I would recommend using protected CR123A's because they are slightly longer. Batteries last somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes. Gets warm. Longest I left it on for was ~4 minutes, it was not uncomfortably warm, but I assume it would be very hot at around 10 minutes.

Other: Good light for short use. If you want a light for long term use go with a cree. Worth the $10, buy it!

Pros: It is very bright. It is possible to run with two RCR123 batteries, and the excitement light is shot.

Cons: There is nothing up to here, too.

Other: It is very useful overall.

Pros: This is the best flashlight that I own to-date. Even the branded Pelican M6 LED that I have cant beat the light output of this unit. Great hotspot that isnt too narrow (unlike the Pelican M60) with lots of spill allows me to search in the dark without having to move the flashlight much and yet does not kill my night vision searching in the undergrowth!

Cons: Even protected RCR123s are slightly loose and rattles a little, but its nothing that a short roll of cardboard cant fix!

Other: I made an order for 2 of these units earlier which had been shipped to a different address on the other side of the world and will be ordering more of these next week!

  • Not bad at all...

Pros: Had if for a day, thought it was a bit dim and yellow with 2xCR123 3.0v batteries, then I realized it's a 9v lamp so I bet its a lot better with 2xRCR123 3.6v batteries. I dropped in a Cree LED Module (sku#6090)for fun and it's awesome bright!! On 2xCR123 3.0v batteries it's about 150+ lm (extimated). Its a good light, nicely built, and for only about $10 it competes with all those other tactical lights costing 5x as much.

Cons: Seems light in the hand, but that is my personal opinion. I like a light to feel a bit more solid in weight, but again this is just me being picky.

Other: Good bright light with 2xRCR123 3.6v batteries. Drop in an LED module for long runtime with bright light.

I will surely buy another one to mod with an LED.

  • Top Quality Flashlight

Pros: Lightweight (but not so lightweight that it feels junky), came with tactical bezel (not pictured though?), two springs on either end of the batteries so you can't shake it and make it lose connection, great switch (no issues with it at all), solid clear beam with no black spots at all.

Cons: Wrist strap provided is too small to go over my hand.

Other: Fantastic flashlight at a fantastic price!

  • Very Good Deal

Pros: Very good output on RCR123A batteries Great price Mine had very good build quality; great threads and good reverse clicky. As a matter of facts, it is built so well that I could not even see the seam where bezel attaches to the head. It is also hefty largely due to its overly thick battery tube.

Cons: Body is too thick; it barely takes protected RCR123A batteries. Forget about 17xxx or 18xxx batteries!
It is also battery eater. It pulls in 1.3A from the 2x RCR123A. It will not last more than 30 minutes

Other: This is my first high performance Xenon light and I am happy with it. I do wish it was bored for 18xxx light. Because it also takes the standard drop-in, you can have fun with 6+ V drop-ins very cheaply

Pros: -Cheap... VERY Cheap. Its the same price as a AA Minimag Incan, and half the price of a 2D Mag Incan.
-Very bright, and a nice mix of throw and flood and a smooth transition between the two. As far as lumens & ceiling bounce tests go, its somewhere in between my DX11836 and DX6090 drop in modules, but closer to the 11836.
-Accepts DX/BOG shaped drop ins as well as standard Surefire P60L
-Tight fitting O-rings that are water tight all around. Those who lube well will be rewarded, those who don't will be punished.
-Glass Lens. Although its not removable, so if it cracks I think you'll just have to buy a new light.
-Lighter than my 6P, yet still feels solid. It doesn't feel as cheap as my Task Force.
    -Switch-cap is air/water tight
    -Decent heat-sinking
-Decently well machined, NO WHERE near as crudely machined as my Lowes Task Force. Almost on-par with my Nuwai lights.
-Decently smooth threads. Again not as smooth as Nuwai, and no where near as luxurious as a Surefire... but considerably cleaner cut than Lowes Task Force. Silicone grease works great.
-Reverse clicky pressure is just about right not too hard and not too soft and it works just fine out of the box.
    -Water tight switch cap.
-9Volt Xenon module Accepts RCR123 as well as Primary cells.

Cons: -Cells rattle a lot, although theres probably enough room for a single 17mm diameter cell. Others have commented that 18650 cell does not fit.
-OEM Xenon module has a LOT of scratches in the OP finish. This was a real bummer, and probably my biggest complaint. Theres literally patches of area where the metallic coating has been scraped off.
-Large spring on the Xenon module is cut very crudely. It gives a strange scraping kind of feel against the body as you tighten down the bezel. At first I thought it was the threads and O-ring, but its the spring on the module. This can be alleviated with a better quality drop in module.
-Strange texture finish around the bezel. Its finished like an old Vinyl record, with small grooves cut around it. IMHO they should have just left it smooth.
-The retaining ring in my switchcap had to be tightened a 1/2 turn, they should have done this at the factory.
-Window glass in the bezel is not water tight.
-Anti-roll bezel grooves are too small, so it will easily roll ff a table thats not flat.
-Mine came with a couple small scuff marks and scratches around the bezel. I was able to fix them with a sharpie pen, but that will probably wear off at some point. I know its free, but DX really should pack some of their shipments better. I for one would be willing to pay for it.

Other: Great value... Its $9!! thats the same price as a 2AA Incan MiniM@g.
Although the build quality could be better. Expect to spend some time tweeking things to get it just right. While still bright, the reflector should not have this many scratches in it.

Pros: Price is still affordable but hass lots of issues with this batch of three that I received.

Cons: The Quality of this product has dropped in comparison to the 3 other batches that I bought a few months back. The diameter of the inner tubing is too large and using unprotected 16340s will cause a lot of rattling in the tube. Two of the UltraFire models that I received had a spacer to separate the Xenon module and the batteries, however the contact points for the batteries to the Xenon module is just a low quality metal rivet which opens up in a flowery form and is a very lousy electrical conductor.
I had to screw the head of the Xenon module to a sweetspot and could not screw the head to fully tighten otherwise the Xenon module would not light up.

Other: Hopefully DX can inform the manufacturer to buck up on their quality. I dont mind receiving UltraFire or SuperFire units but the quality should be better than now.

  • Fair light for price

posted by bikenjam on 13:26:44 G9T 18/09/2008 certificated customer

Pros: Bright, i doubt its 215 lumens, although its close, guessing about 175, so no too bad. solid build, easy to change out module to LED upgrade. O ring seals on all threaded ends. Can't find a light like this for the price, great value.

Cons: 10watts! 30-45 min run time on two 3.6 lithiums. Button fairly hard, might require user to use thumb nail. Typical black finish that can scratch fairly easy. no regulation. gets warm after a while. Doesn't always seem to work with regular cr123a batteries

Other: a great light to use as a host for a better LED module. At this price, you don't have to worry too much about it.
