  • Best Bike Light on DX

posted by rolleur on 17:21:22 G10T 11/10/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Double springs for both ends of battery (prevents flicker).
Bright with plenty of spill for use as a bike light, but the throw seems pretty decent on high (still a mid-range light though).
Runtime on high is almost 2 hrs (then it drops smoothly to medium brightness after it can't maintain regulation and keeps on going)
    Build quality seems excellent.

Cons: Strobe is really too fast to use as a bike strobe.
Do we really need SOS on every single light that has more than two modes?
The lanyard is pretty cheap, but I don't use it on the bike anyway.

Other: This is the best bike light that DX has. Runtime on the P7s is too short for my rides, but this is bright enough for a good long ride.

  • Best Bike Light on DX

posted by rolleur on 10:53:18 G10T 13/10/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Springs on both ends of battery compartment (prevents rattle and flicker).
Good runtime - almost 2 hrs on high before it can't hold regulation anymore and gradually dims to medium and then keeps on going.
Better build quality and finish than my single mode 801.
Great combination of spot and spill that makes a great mid-range light.

Cons: The lanyard is pretty cheap.
The strobe is really too fast to be used as a bike strobe.
Does every multimode light really have to include SOS?

Other: This is the best bike light DX sells. Runtime on the P7s is just too short without changing a battery, but this provides adequate light and decent runtime.

  • Great value

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Functional, powerful, compact, good run time.

Cons: Does it really need an S.O.S. mode?

Other: Just a great value, good solid light, great power supply good, run time.
Buy 3 of them, strap them together, put them on your handle bar, or all on your helmet and go ride at night.

  • bright, good beam

posted by kozmik on 23:13:28 G12T 02/12/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: *** Good beam, with throw in center and fairly wide flood.
    *** Good for biking.
*** Has enough throw to illuminate 30' down the road, while also flooding out enough to avoid tunnel vision.
*** Very bright. Med setting still bright.
    *** Decent battery life.

Cons: *** Strobe is stupid fast. Could induce seizures in epileptics! Not good for biking and basically unusuale unless you wanted to annoy someone or give yourself a headache.
*** SOS mode also bad for biking becasue of dark pauses.

Other: *** Great light, bright, good spill and throw, but flash modes basically unusable.

  • A good bike light!

posted by goodgnus on 02:27:24 G1T 21/01/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Excellent helmet mounted bicycle light.
Single diameter case, doesn't use an oversized reflector. Quite small.
Strobe is good for daytime use!

Cons: I ordered two of these in the same order and one seems to have a slightly different tint/brightness. One is ever so slightly more white and bright than the other. One appears to have a faint greenish tint.
I wish the reflector was a bit more throw and a bit less flood.

Other: I really like the fact that this light doesn't have an oversized head/reflector. I have two mounted on my helmet. The strobe is not useless, I use strobe mode when I bike during the day!

  • great flashlight

posted by kanarie on 22:32:28 G1T 22/01/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: very bright at high 0,85A it outshines my 14500 Dexlight (running @ 1,25A)or my Rexlight and my Fenix P3D. The coating is very good (better than standard HAII)You (almost)can sharpen a knife on it. the build was better than expected (led had a heatsink double springs. glow in the dark switch rubber. glass lens. good centered Cree (not yellow 4 bond wires). stable lightoutput

Cons: It will roll of a table
    Can't stand on it's back
You have to press the switch pretty far and hard and there is a lot of play (I prefer a faster tighter switch)front threads are a bit rough.
uses PWM on med and low (pretty high but noticeable)
rough soler job at some places (but OK)

    Other: with a fresh battery:
    low: 0,25A
    med: 0,55A
High:0,85A (but brighter than others on 1,25A
    great light!

  • Great light

posted by Oznog on 22:35:17 G1T 25/01/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Well it's certainly BRIGHT.
If there was a problem with some people getting an inferior emitter, *I* didn't get one.
    Head and tailsprings together- neat!
    Threads are fairly smooth.

Cons: I wish it were the absolute minimum size, but it's a bit larger. Well, exactly the dimensions shown though. And this is one of the smallest single 18650 lights you'll find anyways.
I don't like these crenulated "tactical" heads", which is just about everything nowadays. They hurt my hand reaching for it in my pocket. And what, and you actually supposed to defeat an attacker with this??
No idea why there's a strobe or SOS mode... has anyone EVER needed one of these?

    Other: It's a buy!

  • My best

posted by Hohlnacken on 16:39:32 G3T 23/03/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very bright, low battery consumption. Very small and handy. Pleasant beam colour.
Sehr hell, klein und handlich. Kein kaltes Licht. Geringer Stromverbrauch

Cons: Build quality could be better. I had to clean and grease threads and o-rings but now it works fine. Strobe modes.
Gewinde und O-Ringe mußten gereinigt und gefettet werden.

Other: It is my favorite torch.
Ganz klar meine Beste. Dagegen kann man alles von Maglite vergessen.

  • New driver in these

posted by rdnman on 16:37:15 G5T 27/05/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very bright, this is my second unit and this new one blows the first one I had totally away. I think this has a different driver in it then any of the previous builds (see details in other thoughts). Finish is excellent no flaws in the anodizing and fit and threads are good. Nice compact size sleek and classy looking. Dissipates heat well gets warm but not too hot. Fits protected cells no problem. Great runtime with the three modes. Orings at all threaded connections and at lens.

Cons: Emitter was slightly off center on my last unit (not enough to bother me) but was better then my first unit which was considerably off. Does not tailstand. No memory mode, if it is off for a little while it will start back up in high. If you turn it off and don't wait long when you start it back up it goes to the next mode. I personally like the light to start up in high every time.

Other: Sleek design and very portable because of its compact size. If they stick with this driver you will love this light as much as I do.

  • Great price for good quality!!!

posted by kajtaskajtas on 14:44:07 G7T 15/07/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - very bright, I think it really has Q5 led
    - cheap
    - 5 modes
    - low is good for reading book at night - it won't blind you
    - very easy to disassemble
    - threads are good
    - almost 2h at HIGH until it starts to be quite dim
    - you can see the beam at night :D

Cons: - flickering is a bit visible on low mode
    - GITD button is glowing for only 10mins
    - not constant-current driver:
at fresh 18650 (4,15V) is gives 750mA through emitter
    at 3,95V - only 560mA
    - won't tail-stand (long button)
    - gets a bit hot after 30mins

Other: Very good for this price!
