  • Great EDC Light...one of the BEST!

posted by phreeflow on 20:44:38 G7T 06/07/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Similar to SKU 11133 but with modes and MEMORY...finally, an Ultrafire with MEMORY!!!
Great build...everything fits tight, o-rings in all the right places, smooth threads.
They made this one with a flat clicky so it tailstands!
Glow in the Dark O-rings and tailcap.
    Very brighter..brighter than 1 mode SS C3.
    Nice white tint CREE Q5
Good heft..solid light, will last for years.
Nice brass pill and aluminum OP reflector...all one piece.
    Thick glass lens.
    Super, Super low mode!!!...finally

Cons: Ringy, ugly beam...not sure why...the original single mode SS C3 was much smoother.
    Dry threads...no big deal.

Other: Ultrafire seems to be listening and they made this new version of the SS C3 much nicer than before. The circuitry is something you may or may not appreciate since some like a simpler one mode better. I personally appreciate a multimode light with memory function so this is a winner for me. Fit and finish is nicer than before, pill is better, clicky is better, and they finally put in a very useable low low mode. Sure there's strobe and sos modes (as usual) but they might come in handy and they're not nearly as annoying since you have memory. Get some...they're nice and they're much cheaper than the original P4 version!!!

  • nice, but beware of contact problems

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Stainless steel.
    Very nice finish.
Very bright, even with NIMH batts.
    Excellent implementation of mode memory.
    Good choice of levels.

Cons: Contact problems in head and tail due to bad design.
Mode arrangement is opposit of what I expect.
    Not the most efficient driver.
Body tube is a little too short for protected 14500 batts. Still useable, but shows gaps.
Gets too hot to hold after running high with 14500 batt.

Other: High with NIMH is brighter than the high on the Akoray using NIMH batt. The light will dim through out the life of the battery. With a 2000ma NIMH batt, runtime on high is about 1 hour, and about 2 hours and 15 minutes on mid. I didn't time the low, but it should be more than 10 hours.
The beam is a little wider than that of the Akoray 1xAA. On the wall, you see a slight ring around the hot spot, but not noticeable in real use.
Nice light, but be ready to fix some contact problems.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - A bit brighter than its older (and even lower priced) black alu C3 brother sku.1993, which I also own. Also, 3,5 mm shorter.
    - Good solid build quality, fits together perfectly (you can barely see where the two front parts meet!).
    - my older C3 had some contact problems (flicker) and a shallow switch, but this one is fine.
    - Glow in the dark clicky and O-rings (I like the front one behind the lens, it glows brightly when you switch off!).
    - Three useful and easily accessed brightness modes (I don't care for the two other modes) and it remembers the last used. The low modes have no discernible pulse-width-modulation flicker.
    - Tailstand is stable.
    - A bit less heavy than specified (2,61 oz instead of 3,21 oz). For some maybe a negative, but I do not like too much weight in my pocket.
    - Wrist strap will fit any adult hand.

Cons: - Beam has noticeable Cree rings, more so than the older C3 and the still excellent Romisen RC-G2 (sku.3607).
    - Steel finish is a bit matte, expected a bit more of a polish.
    - No holster (but I prefer a soft pouch anyway, to protect my pocket. not the light).
    - Design is a bit plain, with no knurling. But I knew that of course from the photos.

Other: - This lamp is an unbelievable deal. I say, get it while you can. Any change (price or in manufacturing) will likely be for the worse, as it would be hard to improve either the quality or the price.

  • My Newest Favorite

posted by FlightInWinter on 02:18:00 G7T 14/07/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: All three lights that I purchased were identical in quality and performance which was excellent.
The edges are all smooth and well-finished. The matte finish is consistent with no flaws.
This looks and feels like it should cost more than it does.
I had no flicker or connection problems at all...yet.
The threads were dry but I expected that. O-rings are tight and appear to do a good job of sealing out water, dust, etc. but you might want to lube them a bit to protect them from abrasion. The o-ring around the bezel glows in the dark as do the o-rings on the body which might be helpful if you are changing a battery in the dark...or not. The tail clickie also glows in the dark.
It appears to be water tight but I'm not going to toss it in the pond just to find out. Do it to yours and let me know how that works for you.
Low, Medium and High modes are sufficiently different from one another to make them useful. The high mode rivals sku.13974 but has less of a defined spot and more spill, due to the smaller reflector. The same holds true when compared to sku.14909. In high mode, it is almost identical to sku.25490. Low mode is not as bright as sku.14881 but brighter and more useful than sku.1253.
The memory works well and recalls the last mode you were using when you turned it off, which is handy. Cycling it through the modes is easy with a light touch on the tail clickie. A little annoying to cycle through the strobe and S.O. modes (see Cons below) to get back where you want to be, but you know it has those modes before you buy it so you can't complain, or you could but no one cares.
The lanyard is just the right length. Not too short and not too long. It fits over your wrist like it should and feels strong so if you fall out of your row boat in your pond...let me know how that works for you. :)
The stainless steel feels solid in your hand and the flashlight weighs a bit more than sku.25490 and that is to be expected. The matte finish gives just enough grip and the design enough form to hang on. If it was just a long, shiny, uniform tube, it might be a different story, but the shape and finish are pleasant enough for extended use.
I think you could run over this thing with a truck and not hurt it. It's built solid enough that if you take care of it, it might be the last flashlight you would ever buy...unless you buy more because you like it so much, which is what I did.

Cons: Strobe mode is fast and annoying as expected. If someone broke into your house and you shined this light in their eyes in strobe mode, they will shoot you and you will deserve it.
My wife's cats were not amused with the strobe, neither were the dogs or the cows out back but it severely irritated my wife and I'm sure she'll get even with me somehow.
S.O.S. mode does not function properly. Instead of signaling S.O.S., the flashlight signals S...O......S...O......S...O..... Must be short hand. It might get someone's attention because it is strange but other than that, S...O..... is worthless and probably wouldn't get you rescued. This was consistent with all three lights that I purchased. I'm not sure if it's a defect or a "feature"

Other: I purchased three of these to start with. After examining and working with them for less than thirty minutes, I came back and purchased five more.
That should tell you what you need to do.

  • Did God made this flashlight?

posted by PPsender on 19:55:03 G7T 16/07/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Perfect flashlight. Brighter than the Romisen G2 with 1 single AA, multimode, accepts 14500 (super bright with li-ion). Build quality is close to much more expensive lights. I mean the machining is so good, it is impossible to believe its price.
I will order 10 more next time, these are perfect for gift, and to keep one in everywhere.

Cons: There is a small delay about half second when changing mode or turning flashlight on. Not a big deal.

Other: If you are still reading this, I suggest you to strop and hit the add to cart button. Trust me.

Pros: Solid. Seems to be much better made and put together than most. Bright, several modes, comes back in the mode you started it in. Glow-in-the-dark tailcap and O rings made of better than average glow material.
Feels great in the hand, it is a good size and weight for me.

Cons: It is heavy - this may or may not be a con for you. It weighs 79g without a battery instead of 39g for the aluminium version. Fractionally less bright on a 14500 than the aluminium single mode C3 - less than 25% which isn't noticeable unless you use a light meter.
Gets rather hot quickly on high which implies that it is pretty well heatsinked but being stainless steel it will not conduct heat away as an aluminium body would.
There is a disconcerting delay between switching on and its lighting up - about 3/4 second.
I'd prefer it with just three modes, very low, medium and high.

Other: Buy one, in fact buy several, you won't be disappointed.

  • Amazing flashlight: Bang for the buck

posted by PedroExtreme on 12:56:56 G7T 25/07/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: - Stainless steel
    - Very bright with 14500 battery;
    - Good high, medium and low modes;
    - Good finish;
    - Good working memory mode;
    - Nice glow in the dark tailswitch
    - Good O-rings, also glow in the dark

Cons: The SOS mode is totally useless (for me that is), it's even no SOS but SO SO SO SO etc.
I could do without the strobe mode but it doesn't bother me.
This unit doesn't work well with 1.2 volt rechargeables. Best to use a 14500 battery.
This time no holster, too bad.

Other: Very stylish EDC light. Several people wanting this light when seeing mine.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Very well built solid and heavy enough
    - 5 Modes with memory so it remembers what you had on last
    - Extremly bright with just 1xAA
    - Very natural colour
    - Hand strap big enough to fit pretty much any hand/wrist
    - Tiny Tiny Size
    - Tail stand
    - Glows in the dark tail cap and O-ring (easier to find and even adds a little awesomeness to it)
Earlier on someone was complaining about the S.O.S mode not being in right format, its seems alrite for me, they must of fixed that problem.

Cons: - No Holster/pouch (if you want to look after it)

Other: If your looking for a light thats small and really bright than this is your choice.

Pros: Look at the quality of this light, i cant just believe how much it cost here, what a steal.
Bright on single AA, brighter than Akoray 106.
Machining is clean and smooth, no machine mark visible.
The gap between head/body/tail is perfect and aligned.
The thread is clean but came without oil so you must do it yourself.

Cons: None really except minor complain on the rubber boot, they probably cut a little of the inner rubber so it can tailstand but i have to push the switch further down to compensate.
    Other than that NONE!

Other: GO BUY IT, before the quality changes or they change the factory. Best light for the money.
I'll order a second or three if i were you.
GOD this light is reall gem, simply enough.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - very good build (feels indestructible) - reasonabl bright light (especially with 14500 battery inside) - considering emmiter and size - will work without flickering AFTER MOD (read on) - suprisingly small - has glowing ring (so you can find it in dark)

Cons: - tail switch very badly designed (can cause flickering) - can get hot (but that's normal)

Other: very good light, and after shortening spring it works without any problem on AA and protected 14500. I carry it around all the time.
