  • Good flashlight

posted by endereczek on 05:47:25 G12T 03/12/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: -good built quality (one of two had slightly misshapen "teeth" from bezel and some scratches)
    -good light (high:~700-800mA ~180lumens i guess, low:50-60mA)
    -one li-ion 18650 power source
-good light dissipation thru Op reflector

Cons: -one of two had scrateches and misshapen "teeth" from bezel
-not R2 ,mine are Q5, not a big difference i guess but decription is wrong
-no mid setting coz mine is low one (~50-60mA)
-comes with no box only in bubled envelope wraped in bubled foil with bubles flat ;)
-not and ideal spill (good dissipation) but after very bright spot comes an darker ring due to space between led and reflector

Other: If You plan to buy it for Yourself it's very good choice, with one li-ion 18650 bat can give You 2-3 hrs of strong light and bout 2 days of low light which is very practical in close and as a signal light for bike

  • Very good flashlight.

Pros: Very good flashlight, incredibly bright, well throwing. Mine came with a XR-E Q5 led instead of an XP-E P2, but that's not a big problem, it's still pretty too much britht.
The body looks well made, threads are good, o-rings are tight fit so you'll never get a drop of water inside of it.
18650 batteries last long, let's say more than one our of full light before starting to see some dimming, even if slight. look at "other thougths" part of ths review for more info about power imput vs voltage.
Has three modes, full, dim and flash. Full sometimes is way too bright (900mA at full battery), there isn't a "mid" setting, but the low light option (55mA) works really well, producing enough light ro read something near you without blinding yourself out due to the imposing flood of light. Flashing is pretty fast, maybe a good way to force sleepy friends to wake up :D not so useful, but funny.

Cons: Thermal contact between led/reflector assembly and the light could be improved.
The light feels warm to touch after about ten minutes of run at full light, but if you open the head and take out the module... it burns hot! let's say the led is operating over 60°C... if the reflector is pretty hot to touch, how hot will be the led? probably, this is the only cons for the flashlight. Will affect the light output, about -10% between 25 and 75°C, but not the led's lifetime so much, since many cree leds are rated 70% of output after 50000 hours at or below 80°C :)

Other: Great flashlight, excellent price for a well working light. Mine comes with a cree xr-e q5, if you are lucky to get the even improved R2 it will be better :) Thermal could be better, but that's not a real clue.

    Pros: perfect, does not weigh,
I like and is fixed to the needs my work, "click" is very convenient, the same goes for the power button is set well in hand, and can be trabajr well, the focus is really good and that can be approached differently

Cons: 1) battery is included or purchased
    2) that I have to buy batteries
    Thank you

Other: Great, bright and useful light.

  • great, but not the best

Pros: Got mine flashlight yesterday, and at
first look it seems very good build,
    strong and light.
I took it appart and noticed that mine is R2. All the alu part are very nicely
crafted, even the clicky button seems
    great.

Cons: The heat transfer from the emitor is not
very good but it has all the potencials
to improve the heat transfer by your own.
I added some thermal paste around the emitor, and some alu foil aroud the
module to increase the contact area.
I don`t know why they have to stick the
strobe mode in allmost every flashlight.
    It is useless.
    The packaging could be better

Other: It is a great light for the money

  • Amazing Deal

Pros: Decent build quality, no chips or flaws in the build. Looks and feels great. Very powerful throw, mediocre flood. Low, strobe, high modes with memory. $18.50 for this light is a STEAL. AMAZING deal, honestly. Battery fits in tightly and isn't loose. Rubber clicky on the tail end. Using the Strobe mode would be fun to incite a seizure in those prone to it. Is in fact an R2 bulb. Compared to my 150 lumen Nitecore D10, this hotspot is much brighter. 200-250 lumens, very bright.

Cons: Acrylic, not glass, lens. Hmmm that's about it.

Other: Definitely worth the money. I bought a $25 river rock AA at 42 lumens from Target. This is 6x brighter with 3 modes at just $18.50.

Pros: Quite an astounding quantity of light out of this R2 equiped light. Nice simple interface and the low is actually a very good balance of light and run time. On a fully charged 18650 (2200mah from old laptop) it ran at full brightness for 1h 20 minutes before starting to dim (in a glass of water to manage heat, but also proved waterproof :) ), I'm sure a new battery would have run longer before starting to dim. On the low setting another 18650 did 9hr 35mins before brightness started dimming. Overall very happy with this purchase

Cons: The LED module does produce a lot of heat on full and I have done the popular silver foil wrap round the light module and relfector to provide better heat transfer to the light body.

Other: DX has a huge selection of flashlights some of them better than others. This is definately a good one from my experience. Make up your own mind by reading various reviews but keep in mind that some peoples view of DX is clouded by the fact that they dont like anything without 'Made in America' on it. The same people dont know what they are missing.

Pros: The pretty torch. The light is focus from her best. One can use as the torch EDC as also the torch about the far range. This amazing is that we can change whole modules and to adapt the light to own preferences. We can also take apart the whole torch without the problem. The building allows to keep in the hand in many comfortable positions.

Cons: Weak cooling of the module Sensitive coat on sketched - not HA III A little large to everyday carrying in the pocket

Other: I will buy yet several for colleagues in the future

  • Bright but simple

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Bright and tight-focused. Has a clip, very convenient to carry in a pocket, bezel-down position. Sturdy construction thought very lightweight. Knurling is not aggressive, just enough for good grip. Two useful modes, one useless. Hi is VERY bright, and Lo is very, err, low. Strobe is a strobe, but there is only one strobe, I can live with it. Has memory. For light with more modes it would be a con, but here it is acceptable and even sometimes useful. I carry my light in Lo mode, and it takes only two clicks to get Hi, just like in perfect Lo-Mid-Hi order, just without Mid mode.

Cons: It is NOT regulated. Just direct-drive with PWM for Lo and Strobe modes. No buck driver, nor linear stabilization. No thermal path from module to body due to two-part head design. Threads are small and prone to cross-threading. Switch is stiff and has some play. I will change it to GITD anyway.

Other: May be good for tacticool use, but is not best for EDC. It costs it's price but it really needs some driver swap.

  • A great work light for Police

posted by callmeshyguy on 21:45:30 G1T 24/01/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a real good seller for me. The light throws far has good lux and has a good amount of spill not too much though. I had a customer of mine tell me he jumped into a lake at night with the light to save his son. He said it worked great and thanked me foe selling him something so good. It has a good strong body and metal clip.A single mode works best for Police. The 3 mode can be used so as long it has no memory and reverts back Hi mode always.

Cons: Taking out the battery out of the light to charge 3+ hours. If they made a charger that recharges above 800mA it would be great.

Other: 19 bucks is a drop in the bucket compared to other higher priced lights that dont even come close to this R2 WF502. 18650 is a good long lasting battery compared to Rcr123a

  • Great little torch for the house car or toolbox

posted by Ratface on 10:24:08 G5T 14/05/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Super bright little torch with a clear super bright beam. Nice and compact so it fits in the pocket or on the belt without being a burden. Battery life is excellent. I use it daily for work and change the battery every 2 weeks.

Cons: Needs a little attention before use as there are a few easily overcome build quality issues. The threads and o-rings need lubrication with a bit of petroleum jelly to get rid of the roughness and make it easier to reassemble. The screws that hold the clip in place need some thread locker to stop them coming loose. The switch can become faulty internally but easy to fix by unscrewing it from the inside and rebending the tabs.

Other: I've owned mine for over 8 months now and it has been the best torch I've owned. So far I've purchased around 30+ of these (3 mode and 5 mode models) for friends and people at work and haven't had any complaints.
