  • Such a handy toolset to have around.

Pros: * It works! I have tested with PATA/SATA and 2.5" IDE.
    * Very convenient if you replace harddrives of have to do troubleshooting.
    * Comes with and adapter for SATA and PATA drives and the 2.5" drives takes power through USB.
    * Very cheap

Cons: The main connector feels a bit flimsy. Each time I use it I'm afraid I will break it.
Lots of loose parts and cables. Hopefully I won't loose any... Could use a nice carying bag.
A brand new SATA drive would not innitialize through this connector. Once I had innitialized it on a PC and then reconnected it to the USB it worked. Looks like you still need a PC for a new disk.

Other: It is very cheap and so convenient. I already used it on two occations last week and it saved me a lot of time.

Pros: Under Windows XP, it gets recognized as an USB to ATA/SATA bridge automatically, no need to install drivers.
I bought it to easily install other OS'es into my Asus EeePC netbook, and it works better than expected.
My DVD-ROM gets recognized in the BIOS, so I could install Ubuntu on my netbook without using an USB memory stick.

Cons: No cons so far. It works as expected, the built quality seems good.
It doesn't come with a European main cable, but it's no problem, as it uses a standard computer power connector.

Other: Very useful for connecting DVD drives to netbook, it gets recognized by the BIOS.
Could be useful for other porpuses, though.

Pros: -Works like a charm on my notebook and on PC. -Easy to install(if you know how to install a HD) -Works on Windows 7 and windows XP (don't need to search other drivers) -Wrks with my 500GB SATA hard drive

Cons: -Take a time to instart when you connect -The most annoying thing: DONT works on another devices (TV's and DVD players) like a real extern hard drive (or pen drive)

Other: If you really want something to test and tranfer data PC-PC, it's a really good product! The price is very good.

Pros: No need to build your IDE or SATA drives into a pc anymore. Just connect them to this handsome device and off you go!

Cons: I tested it on different IDE and 2,5" SATA drives. The IDE drives worked, but after a time data corruption occured and the hard drive started clicking. I suspected the included power supply and used an old PC power supply to feed the drives. Same story: drives first work fine but after a while the data on them gets corrupted. The SATA drives I connected were even not found. The drives didn't even spin up. The power supply included has an (for me...) unusual connector. Lucky for me the power supply has aan Euro socket, so you can connect your own mains cable.

Other: Next time I give a little extra money to a device with better quality.

Pros: It works perfectly in GNU/Linux. You can use it with HDD or with CD/DVD drives. No problems with all the disk i tested. Tha price here is half of what i found in the shops in my city for the same product.

Cons: It has no european mains cable, but it works with an spare computer main cable.

Other: I have used it to make backups of HDD without having to install them on my computer, i've used it to connect DVD/RW drives to computers without one to make backups or to (re)install OS. Really useful to have it around when you make technical service for family and friends ;-) .

Pros: It is really small and supports both Sata, and IDE / PATA drives. There is an adapter for power source included with it. Also there is one sata cable included with it. The price is also good.

Cons: I have been using it for the last year, and there are none I can think of at this time. I think you get what you buy.

Other: Dont think, just buy it, its a good deal I would say.

  • Re-use your old hard disks

    posted by enRiki70 on 11:26:00 G3T 18/03/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: It is very little.
I tried successfully with both 2.5 IDE and 3.5 SATA disks and with Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Cons: It doesn't came with EU plug, but since it uses an standard computer's power supply 3 pin connector, you can use any other cable you have at home.

Other: If you have lots of old hard disks (like I do), this is a nice and cheap way to recover data and re-use their space.

  • blew up my harddrive

    posted by digit on 04:05:03 G5T 10/05/2010

Pros: This thing is cheap and could be a useful tool.

Cons: It gets really-really warm: both the AC-adapter and the IDE-cabel connector.
You have to pull the power plug to stop it; there is no switch.
Worst of all: it blew up my HDD. Smoke came out of the HDD and it never came to life again in a computer.
All connectors fit with much room to spare; it's very easy to connect the IDE-connector two pins the aside or upside down. Even the molex connector could be plugged in the wrong way.

Other: Might be a useful tool, but I'd suggest to NOT use the power supply that comes with it!

Pros: This is very useful, just connect the power calbe, sata or ide cable in hdd/dvd-rw/cd-rom; and the usb cable. Theres's a external drive ready to operate. Plug-and-play in XP, Seven and Ubuntu. Muito prático, apenas conecte o cabo de energia, o cabo de dados sata ou ide e plugar no usb. Não precisa de instalar drives pra funcionar. Basta ligar no XP, Seven ou Ubuntu.

Cons: Doesn't seem very durable. The power adapter has little buzz sound. Don't have a on/off button, then you connect the cable and the hdd start working. So I use a extension with on/off button. Não parece muito durável. O adaptador de energia fica zinindo. Não tem um botão de liga/desliga, então quando conceto o cabo, já começa a funcionar. Uso uma extensão só por causa do botão de liga/desliga.

Other: The 2.5" hard drive was plugged in usb cable and then in a Wii. Works without power. O hd de 2.5 foi conectado no wii, e funcionou sem cabo de energia.

Pros: - I have tested it on my internal DVD-RW drive and internal 3.5" hard drive and it works perfectly - enclosed adapter is working like a charm - adapter do not overheat - no problems with interuption of connection or transfer - good and cheap replacement for much more expensive internal drives for laptops - also useful for an internal hard drive to make it external

Cons: - asian socket plug is not very usable in europe, but it use standard cable, which is used to supply power to monitors or PC's as well

Other: Good for both SATA and IDE/PATA 2.5"/3.5" drives. I have not encountered any problems with this adapter. Works as it supposed to.
