Wilderness Survival Fire Sparkle + Blade Cutter Tool (Large)

Pros: simple, solid construction. No apparent 'flaws' or issues. Just good.
Works well; easy to use; able to get abundant sparks in first 10 seconds of trying.

Cons: none that are apparent.

Other: very easy to use, very good build quality, so if you need one of these gadgets for camping then you really can't go wrong here IMHO.
Note I haven't ever bought a similar item (either from DX or elsewhere) so don't have much for comparison. But it works for me..

Pros: Very good price, these cost at least twice locally (Sweden). Does what it's supposed to and has the right size to last a long time. Strap is long enough not to interfere while striking. Striking steel seems to be hard enough as it does not show any signs of wear after several uses.

Cons: Handle on the sparkling steel could be a bit longer for better grip.

Other: This is the third of this kind I have bought over a ten year period and while all worked the same way this is the most inexpensive yet.
If you cannot eliminate the possibility that you might need an emergency firestarter some time this is a good investment.

Pros: Nice size, not so small that you can´t handle, no big enough to be a burden.
Makes a nice spark after the black finishing is gone.

Cons: The "blade cutter tool" do NOT cut at all, it´s just useful to make sparks.
To my hands, the handle can be bigger.
O tal do "blade cutter" só serve pra produzir faíscas, não corta nada.
O cabo poderia ser um pouco maior, levando em conta o tamanho da minha mão.

Other: I´own both this and sku.33798. Bottomline? sku.33798 is bigger, costs twice this one, but IMO is far more useful.
Tenho este E o 33798 (barra de alumínio); apesar do preço do outro ser o dobro, ele ainda é muito mais útil, no fim das contas.

Pros: The fire starter is very good for its price. I have used Several of these and this one sparks most consistent. It is very easy to use. Some Fire starters I used are hard to strike but this one strikes very easy. It is great for camping, or starting a fire in the fireplace.

Cons: I do not really have any Cons about this item.

Other: It is a cheap fire starter with good build quality and is a must have if you like to play with fire.

Pros: The material of this tool is tough. The size is very handy, because it's easier to put in your pocket or backpack. This tool produces sparks great and is very easy to make a fire with it. I think it lasts a long time and will help you much when you want to make a bonfire.

Cons: The blade cutter of this tool is so small that you can not cut anything. And I think the cord could be longer.

Other: I've bought other tools like the one on DealExtreme and this is the best. It is an essential tool when you're camping. I recommend it to anyone who likes an adventure.

Pros: Very good striker. Comfortable handles. Much much cheaper than name brands. The striker design is a HUGE improvement over previous DX firesteels like sku.12305

Cons: There is nothing at all wrong with this product. ...Ok fine, the lanyard isn't fantastic, i replaced it with paracord. But that's a VERY minor quibble.

Other: If you want a ferro rod buy this one. You will not be disappointed. It's not a bad deal for the striker alone even if you already have another rod.

muy practico para trasladar y comodo para utilizar, talvez sea un tanto pequeño, pero diria que mas grande seria muy incomodao para llevar en el bolsillo.

Cons: Shorter diameter than expected, but usable, & light for carryng

Other: exelente producto para llevar contigo todo momento , un tamaño comodo , es resistente, es de buena calidada, se nota que esta bien hecho!

Pros: + Cheap.
+ Compact - it will not be a burden for your pocket.
+ Lightweight.
+ Has an "EXPEDITION" brand.

Cons: - Requires some training to use it (see "Other Thoughts").
- Magnesium rod is not fixed well - it may detach from a plastic holder.
- Applied iron cutter provides small sparks - using a piece of a tempered saw blade is better (see "Other Thoughts").
- You need a dry material which burns easily and it should be stored in a sealed dry container.

Other: Maybe once it will save your life, maybe it will be just a toy for you - nobody knows...

Cons: Like others that I've read, my flint stuff (is that the name of it?) detached from the orange holder, but you can just stick it back in there and hold it really tight, or use some sort of glue.
The cord attaching them to each other is bulky, but quite short, so it doesn't allow a lot of freedom in terms of striking technique.

Other: Well worth the money, even with the slight technical flaws, as these can be overcome. Not entirely useful, since nowdays lighters and such have replaced these, but in a survival situation where everything else doesn't work?... SURE!

Pros: Very sturdy build and a good-sized stave, useful saw piece attached to it for easy access with so-so quality jags. must have if you plan on living in wilderness for a few weeks-months Good grip!!! most important!

Cons: the only con on this is the attached saw to make the sparks, it's not great and hard to operate to its fullest potential so you should probably have a knife with it to make fires properly to save you some cursing.

Other: you should always have one of these in your fishing gear box or hiking pack incase your lighter or matches get wet. Don't give it to kids or they'll set your house on fire!
