Wilderness Survival Fire Sparkle + Blade Cutter Tool (Small)

Pros: It is VERY SMALL I say this is a good thing because in a backpacking survival kit smaller/lighter is better. It's bright orange so you will never lose it if you accidentally drop it in the dirt, and it makes a fairly decent spark.

Cons: Though it is a nice that it is small this can also be a downfall depending on usage. It will wear out quick being only ~1.5 inches long and 1/5-1/6 inch thick. My flint bar did come out of the thumb grip but was easily placed back in, and when in use you apply pressure so it won't fly out unless you intentionally pull it out.

Other: It doesn't make as many sparks as more expensive sets, but if you know how to use it, it's an essential to a backpacker.

Pros: its small i say this is a pro cos i wanted it to be this small its around 1.5 times the size of a peanut lighter popit on a peice of para cord with a keychain torch and whistle you got a good back up

Cons: like all dealextreme fero rods you gotta scrape away the coating another con is the striker be prepared to file it too a 90 degree as with all dealextreme rods

Other: you want a back up fero rod buy it use it a few times(to take of the coatin) then put it in a kit if you try to use it as a primary its not gonna last

Pros: Small. about 2 inches long and thin. Smaller than I would prefer but I understand why someone would want a light fire steel. I have the thicker one they sell on DX and this is kind of my back up. Works as great as all dealextreme fire steels.

Cons: Mine actually fell out of the orange housing but I used an epoxy to put it back in and it's as good as new. The end of it looks like they just broke it off but it has no effect on performance. Small!

Other: Get it for a gift or put it in your survival pack and know you have a fire starter that will work in any condition or situation. BUY IT!

Pros: * tiny and light, won't take up room or weigh you down when hiking * produces lots of sparks * easily lit a tissue first time * very inexpensive

Cons: * although build quality is OK, won't take rough handling * "blade cutter" ? the striker wouldn't slice butter !

Other: * now that I have this in my survival kit, I'm fully prepared for the zombie apocalypse :-)

Pros: Easy to use, small and handy. First I couldnt get it working, looked at a few videos how to use it and still couldnt. So when I got it working the first sparkles, I almost wet my self, it was like running from the cops. My heart started beating, Damn!

Cons: Still cant see where is the cutter, and it seems that the stick will be running out in some time. No more sparkles in a month i guess.

Other: Buy it, its like Ultimate survival tool, and its really cool. Cant find it in a local store.

Pros: Is very small, so that fits in your pocket. The plastic quality is very good, it feels good to touch. And the penknife to scrape has good edge.

Cons: Perhaps the only thing that could put as against, is that it is a bit small which is not very comfortable for large hands, yet has a good size handle.

Other: Buy several, and gave some to my group scouts, were delighted.

Pros: Hi,
I saw this and as a gadget lover, bought it.
It is strictly usefulness, I may never use it but, so nice to see how it works.. :)

Cons: This is really a gadget that works as it does and doesn't worth more than $ 3 so nevermind !

Other: I d suggest to have it if you go camping, or want to laugh at funny gadget, otherwise, maybe buy some other games :)

Pros: -small and easy tto use -usefull when your in the wilderness (not in your house tough) -creates a good spark that will light up most tinder

Cons: the knife thing that comes with it is useless, it dosn't even work very good! pretty annoying that the knife don't work, it's just in the way.

Other: its cheap for the build qualtiy and useful in the wilderness... I would say if youre an out door person i guess it can come in handy, if not it's pretty much useless (that is why i didn't put a higher star rating on it)

Pros: ok so i bought two of them . to give them a try. I am very happy with what i got. they do have a small flint stick but that is what they say it is. I found it very easy to use. lit a fire with one the first day i got them . they gave off great sparks and lit the fire on the first strike.

Other: bottomline . buy some you will not regreat it.

-Start fire in any place.
-It is cool.
-Good price.
-It can be used to light.
- you can combine it with a knife to produce more sparkle

Cons: None, maybe that it's short but it's good for the price.

Other: Very useful to make fire in any place, specially in survival situations.
If you go to a wild environment, like a mountain, take it, but use it with attention.
It is not as fast as matches, but you can be 100% sure that in a short time you will make fire.
