Z8D 3.5" HDD 1080P Full HD Media Player & DVB-T TV BOX Network Video Recorder

Pros: I bought this product to record from a decoder, from the beginning did its job. The problem was the DVB-T, menus could not be set. But with the correct firmware is working properly.
It is an excellent product at a great price.
- It can use 500GB SATA disk. Tested. Probably also higher.
- You can record from V-in. Tested.
- You can record from DVB-T. Tested.
- You can use it as NAS.
- Net-radio and Net-TV.

Cons: IMPORTANT: NOT PROVIDED WITH THE CORRECT FIRMWARE. THIS IS THE REASON FOR I DO NOT scored higher.

Pros: Well, this unit has no built-in analog TV-tuner, but it can record from a number of sources: 1. DVB-T (or digital terrestrial TV) through the coaxial cable, where it acts as a TV-tuner 2. It has RCA connector IN and OUT connectors (one for each), so you can record any analog signal that comes in through the RCA IN connector: a.) movies played on the DVD-player (you can easily rip them) b.) television programs received through a set-top box (STB )from your cable TV-programs supplier c.) videos played on the VCR (you can digitise your old VHS tapes!) Of course, for the PVR (private video recording) to work, you would best install an HDD in the box, or use a high speed USB 2.0 pendrive. I, for example, have used an external USB HDD. I'have got a good firmware (version 26 from August 25, 2011). The official firmware is a linux based operating system. Linux 2.6.12.6-VENUS is used. The environment uses BusyBox 1.1.3 Built-in shell .

Cons: - The fan is a bit noisy, especially in the night - I still wasn't able to setup internet access. Net Radio works, so I have to read more thoroughly the instructions manual to find out what of my settings are wrong. Actually, this is not a task for the ordinary user. -The remote control buttons have Chinese pictograms on them, instead of the usual, international, standard symbols for Play, Pause, FF, Rewind etc.

Other: This is a very good buy for this price.

Pros: Well put together Easy to operate Excellent caddy system for HDD Never overheats Quiet enough for use in a bedroom , soft blue and amber lighting not obtrusive

Cons: Manual OK but linux experience worthwhile DVB tuner good but difficult to edit Not the cheapest but maybe you get what you pay for Would prefer a UK 3 pin adapter face to be included with the otherwise good quality power supply

Other: Bought to supplement the Z8 non DVB unit which has worked well and troublefree for several months . Definitely recommended instead of disastrous Emtec and so-so Sumvision units they have replaced
